Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever, or DHF, is a common disease affecting many countries worldwide, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. It is estimated that there are 100–400 million infections annually. Although there is no specific treatment for this virus, controlling mosquito vectors remains the primary focus in controlling its spread. The formation of mosquito surveillance cadres is a crucial strategy in reducing DHF cases by monitoring breeding sites of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Training for these cadres and clean village activities are vital for enhancing public knowledge and awareness of DHF prevention. These activities demonstrate that education and training increase the knowledge and participation of mosquito surveillance cadres. Therefore, the formation of mosquito surveillance cadres and practical training are critical steps in the efforts to prevent and control DHF.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are common among older adults, especially those residing in nursing homes, and can significantly affect their quality of life and overall well-being. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as guided imagery and virtual reality (VR), have shown promise in improving sleep quality by promoting relaxation and reducing cognitive arousal. The SI-VIGUR (Virtual Reality Guided Imagery) app combines VR technology with guided imagery to offer a therapeutic solution for improving sleep in older adults. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the SI-VIGUR VR app in improving sleep quality among older adults in nursing homes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Virtual Reality Guided Imagery (SI-VIGUR) application in improving sleep quality among older adults in nursing homes in Palembang City, South Sumatra, Indonesia, in 2024. Using a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-tests, 80 participants aged 60 or older with sleep disturbances were selected. They received 15-minute SI-VIGUR sessions three times a week for 1 months. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Participants in the experimental group showed a significant improvement in sleep quality, as evidenced by a decrease in their PSQI scores (from 14.20 ± 1.86 to 7.31 ± 2.81). The intervention group demonstrated a marked reduction in poor sleep quality, with a higher percentage of individuals reporting fair or good sleep quality after the intervention compared to before. These findings were statistically significant (p = 0.0001), confirming the effectiveness of the SI-VIGUR app. The SI-VIGUR VR app proved to be an effective non-pharmacological intervention for improving sleep quality among older adults in nursing homes. The results suggest that VR-guided imagery can significantly reduce sleep disturbances, offering a promising solution for enhancing the well-being of older adults in institutional settings.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to defects in insulin secretion or action. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is the most prevalent form, contributing to complications such as cardiovascular diseases, neuropathy, and retinopathy. Managing T2DM often involves lifestyle changes, including physical activity and dietary adjustments. Probiotic milk, containing beneficial microorganisms, has been studied for its potential to improve glycemic control in diabetic patients. However, while exercise and probiotics have been researched separately, their combined impact on blood glucose management remains underexplored. This study aimed to assess the effects of regular exercise and probiotic milk consumption on blood glucose levels in T2DM patients. Specifically, it sought to examine blood glucose changes before and after exercise, and after consuming probiotic milk. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test approach was used. Fifty participants with T2DM were recruited using purposive sampling from the SP6 Sari Bungamas Community Health Center, Lahat Regency, Indonesia. Participants engaged in light physical activity three times a week for three months. After each session, they consumed probiotic milk, and their blood glucose levels were measured pre-exercise, post-exercise, and two hours after consumption. Paired t-tests were used to analyze the data. Regular exercise significantly lowered blood glucose levels (p-value = 0.016). However, probiotic milk consumption did not show a statistically significant effect on blood glucose levels (p-value = 0.55). Regular exercise significantly reduces blood glucose levels in T2DM patients. However, the effect of probiotic milk on blood glucose levels was inconsistent, warranting further research to determine its potential benefits.

Abstract

Prayer is the cornerstone of religion, and it is an obligation for Muslims who have reached the age of accountability. Prayer is a great act of worship, because it is a direct command from Allah ta'ala to Muslims, whose command was directly received by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) without the mediation of Gabriel (peace be upon him) at Sidratul Muntaha on the occasion of Isra' and Mi'raj. Prayer is the first thing that will be judged on the Day of Judgement, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The first thing that will be judged of a slave on the Day of Judgement is prayer. If his prayer is good, all his deeds will be good. If the prayer is bad then all his deeds will be bad". Education or teaching prayer to children is so important that even Rosulullah sholallahu alaihi wassalam has firmly prescribed that prayer education begins at an early age, that is, before they reach the age of puberty. Even when children are seven years old, they have been ordered to pray. This application is multimedia-based to be more interesting and easily understood by children in learning prayers because there are images, sounds and videos in it.

Abstract

This research is based on implementation and obstacles in learning local history of Banten at the high school level in Banten Province. The methodology used is quantitative, qualitative and descriptive approach with two instruments, i.e. questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that almost 73% of high school history teachers have implemented local history lessons. The scope of local history ranges from historical objects/facts found in the locations closest to schools, districts/cities, to the Banten Province area. The most dominant teaching material is the period of the Sultanate of Banten and the period of the independence revolution. The most interesting finding is the national hero from Banten who was just appointed by the government in 2018, namely K.H. Syam'un as the most studied character. The obstacles faced in learning local history are the lack of teaching materials, learning media, and time allocation. The respondents expect the Banten Provincial Government to issue a policy to make local history a Local Content of the 2013 Curriculum.
