Abstract

The application of CNC technology in the furniture industry has already become familiar, in addition to its use in the metal and plastic industries. HMR (High Moisture Resistant) panels, which had better moisture resistance than MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), had also started to develop. However, few studies have investigated the effects of variations in machining parameters on the cutting quality of HMR boards. This study aimed to test the effects of machining parameters (cutting method and cutting depth) on the dimensions and surface roughness of the workpiece. Four schemes of machining parameter settings, namely conventional and climb methods with cutting depths of 2 mm and 4 mm, respectively, were performed with three repetitions each. After testing, it was found that the cutting method, cutting depth, and the interaction between the cutting method and cutting depth had not significantly affected the length and width dimensions of the specimen. However, the cutting method significantly influenced the final surface roughness of the specimen. The conventional cutting method with a cutting depth of 2 mm produced the best surface roughness, measuring 26.47 µm.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the different impacts of compression pressure on power and torque outputs using gasoline RON 92, RON 95, and RON 100. The study involved experiments using a single-cylinder motorcycle engine with a capacity of 125 cm. The selection of this type of engine is based on the popularity of vehicles in Indonesia that use a single-cylinder engine with a capacity of 125 cm. To modify the compression pressure, variations in the number of gaskets were applied to the cylinder head, with quantities of 1 and 3 gaskets. Dynamometer tests were conducted to measure the engine's performance differences. Throughout the testing, the settings for the main jet, pilot jet, and the number of idle screw rotations on the carburetor remain constant. The findings indicate that the engine with the highest compression pressure of 11.8 Kg/cm, using RON 100 gasoline, produces the highest power output at 7.9 kW, with the highest torque at 10 Nm.

Abstract

The total motor vehicle sales reflected an increase in people's mobility. Alongside this, the industry were also develop high compression engines to achieve optimal performance. This research aims to examine the effects of adding a cylinder head gasket and variations in the octane number of gasoline used in a single-cylinder internal combustion engine. Dynamometer testing was conducted to observe the differences in torque and power output. The test results indicate that an engine with a compression ratio of 11,8 Kg/cm2, coupled with the use of RON 100 gasoline, produces the highest power output, which is 7.90 kW, with peak torque reaching 9.93 Nm. On the other hand, the smallest torque is generated by the same engine when supplied with RON 92 gasoline, at 4.78 Nm, with the lowest power output of 5.43 kW.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of cutting methods and feed rates on the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of HMR (High Moisture Resistance) panels. The aim is to determine the optimal cutting parameters that yield precise dimensions and smooth surfaces in CNC machining. Two cutting methods—single and double passes—were applied using feed rates of 2, 4, and 6 m/min. Dimensional accuracy was measured using a digital caliper, while surface roughness was evaluated with a surface tester. The results indicate that the double-pass cutting method significantly improves both dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Statistical analysis using ANOVA revealed that feed rate has a significant effect on surface roughness (p < 0.05), whereas dimensional accuracy is primarily influenced by the cutting method. These findings provide practical insights for optimizing CNC machining processes in furniture manufacturing using HMR panels.

Abstract

Workplace seating that does not match user anthropometry often leads to discomfort and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study evaluates the office chairs used at the Politeknik Industri Furnitur dan Pengolahan Kayu Kendal by combining discomfort analysis and anthropometric mismatch assessment. Thirty-two employees (16 males, 16 females) participated, completing the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire and providing seated anthropometric measurements. The NBM results revealed that lower back discomfort was the most common complaint, particularly among female respondents, who also reported higher discomfort in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Mismatch analysis confirmed severe incompatibilities between existing chair dimensions and user anthropometry, with seat height (100% mismatch for both genders) and seat depth (94% for men, 88% for women) as the most problematic. Based on these findings, a redesigned chair was developed, lowering seat height by 30 mm and reducing seat depth by 66 mm, alongside adjustments to backrest and armrest dimensions. Comparison with Indonesian (SNI) and international ergonomic standards (ISO 9241-5, BIFMA G1, EN 1335-1) showed that the redesign falls within recommended ranges. The study demonstrates how anthropometry-based redesign can reduce mismatch and improve comfort, providing practical guidance for the local furniture industry.
