Abstract

Background: Laryngeal carcinoma is a carcinoma that forms in the tissue of the larynx. The cause of laryngeal carcinoma is not known with certainty, but many risk factors can cause laryngeal carcinomas, such as a history of smoking, alcohol consumption, gender, age, and exposure environment. The quality of life of patients with laryngeal carcinoma after chemoradiation can be influenced by several things, including several risk factors for laryngeal carcinoma. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the association of risk factors with the quality of life of laryngeal carcinoma patients after chemoradiation at Kariadi General Hospital. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study with samples of laryngeal carcinoma patients who have received chemoradiation therapy at Kariadi General Hospital. Sampling was carried out using a consecutive sampling technique using a Univesity of Washington Quality of Life (UW-QoL) questionnaire which was translated into Bahasa. The data from the sampling was then processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 application. Results: Overall, the quality of life of laryngeal carcinoma patients after chemoradiation was categorized as “good” quality of life with a mean score of 62. There was no significant relationship (p<0.05) between the quality of life scores and each risk factor for laryngeal carcinoma. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between risk factors on the quality of life of laryngeal carcinoma patients after chemoradiation at Kariadi General Hospital.

Abstract

Background: Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is a malignant tumor located in the nasopharynx, which can be treated by Cisplatin, a chemotherapy that has a side effect of increasing the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that can damage the liver. We aim to determine the effect of giving Mahkota Dewa (Phaleria macrocarpa) as an antioxidant on liver function of NPC patients receiving Cisplatin chemotherapy. Subjects and Method: Forty subjects of stage III and IV Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma patients were divided into treatment and control groups. Subjects will be tested for SGOT SGPT before cisplatin chemotherapy. The treatment group was given Phaleria macrocarpa capsules 300 mg/24 hours for 5 weeks since a week before chemotherapy. The control group was given placebo capsules/24 hours for 5 weeks since a week before chemotherapy. The patients received two series of cisplatin chemotherapy with an interval of 3 weeks, then a second blood sample was taken 1 week after the second series of cisplatin chemotherapy. Results: There was a significant difference in SGOT levels in the post-treatment group of Phaleria macrocarpa and control, as well as the difference in the pre- and post- treatment group between the Phaleria macrocarpa and control groups. Also, there was a significant difference in SGPT levels in the pre- and post- treatment in the Phaleria macrocarpa and control groups. Conclusion: The administration of Phaleria macrocarpa has an effect on decreasing the levels of SGOT and SGPT in NPC patients receiving Cisplatin chemotherapy therapyKeywords: Phaleria macrocarpa, SGOT, SGPT, Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, CisplatinCorrespondence: Adi Januar Akbar. Abstract

Skin graft is a surgical procedure in which part or all of the thickness of the skin is removed from a region of origin (donor) without being accompanied by vascularity to another area (recipient) to cover a defect. Indication of skin graft performed on primary non-sealable wounds. The purpose of writing this case report is to report one case of a patient who was split thickness skin graft (STSG) and provide knowledge to colleagues on how to do it considering the very rare cases in ORL-HNS department. This article reported a 61-year-old male with complaints of a reddish open wound on the right neck and diagnosed with necrosis of the colli dextra region due to a submandibular abscess. Patients are carried out management of wound tissue closure with STSG technique, with good treatment the grafting results can be successful without complications after the patient controls 1 month post-STSG and no secondary infection is obtained at 6 months post-STSG.
