Abstract

The aim of the research was to investigate students’ perception while teaching learning process in 16 meeting by having google meet video conferencing. Method of the research used qualitative research by focusing at descriptive analysis to explore students’ perception in English speaking class as it was followed by 13 English students at the second semester of English study program of STKIP Setia Budhi Rangkasbitung who join speaking lesson. Instruments used were observation, questionnaire, and interview. The results of the research about students’ perception emphasized on interaction, teaching learning process, psychological aspects, and speaking skills. The researcher found that interaction showed that there were three patterns of interaction, they were interaction lecturer-students, students-lecturer, and students-students interaction. The three interactions happened well since the number of them was 100% and all students were involved in speaking activity. Teaching learning process was done as usual like in a real classroom such as pre-activity, main activity, and post-activity. In the form of psychological aspects, students were happy, secure, confident, and brave. Data showed 100%, it meant that they did not have any barriers during English speaking class with google meet video conference. Speaking skills in the form of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and comprehension. Students kept having their right to learn about those aspects supported by the teacher in google meet. When students did some mistakes, lecturer explained directly in general at the end of class and this way was very helpful for students in learning speaking. From these findings, the conclusion was the usage of google meet video conferencing in the speaking class showed positive respond that students’ perception on google meet showed mostly perceive the advantages rather than disadvantages of google meet video conferencing provided.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the process of students’ speaking skill through sociodrama method on students of English Department of STKIP SetiaBudhiRangkasbitung in Banten region. The participants include 33 students in the third semester. This study uses qualitative descriptive to draw the phenomenon in the classroom when sociodrama applied. Class activity, learning material, class structure in applying sociodrama, student’ perception, sociodrama value, and sociodrama tasks are described to understand the class applied by sociodrama. From the research result, it can be concluded that learning by using sociodrama based task is an effective way and provide students to produce language frequently with the groups and grow student’ motivation well.

Abstract

This article aims at describing types of TOEFL questions seem the most difficult to be answered, the strategies used in answering each type of TOEFL questions, and  the TOEFL score of the 8th semester of English Students in STKIP Setia Budhi Rangkasbitung Academic Year 2015/2016. TOEFl test, questionnaires, and interview were used as the instruments. The results showed that understanding idiom in listening, question of noun forms in structure and written expression, and reference question in reading comprehension are the most difficult question types.  Related to the strategy, various ways are used in answering the TOEFL test. In addition, the TOEFL score of the eighth semester students of STKIP Setia Budhi was low.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the experiences of students in learning English online during COVID-19 and students’ writing skills. It uses Photovoice as the research methodology. Data collection is done through Photovoice and in-depth interviews. 15 students of class VIII-I of SMPN 1 Rangkasbitung participated in this study. Data from students' explanations on their photos were analyzed qualitatively to find out students' experiences of learning English online through their writings about the photos. After that, the researcher did a cross check and compared the information from the students' writings, photos and interviews. In this study, researchers found that the Photovoice method can be used as a technique to help students in learning English. It can also help students express their experience of learning English online during the pandemic. Besides that, students' perception of English learning online during the pandemic has negative perceptions. This can be shown from the results of Photovoice supported by in-depth interviews. 11 out of 15 students got negative feelings, while four students had positive feelings. Three students stated they have difficulty in joining online classes and 12 students stated the other way around. From the findings above, it can be concluded that the Photovoice method can be used for teaching writing as students can still learn online easily.

Abstract

This study focused on using “literally” slang terms on Twitter which aims to find out what the meaning of language variations. This research uses a qualitative approach, with a descriptive analysis method. The way to collect the data is the statements taken from Twitter as media used by people. this study showed that the use of literally word that happened nowadays had many purposes and meaning conveyed by the person. The finding of the research are the people use literally term to emphasize, surprised and the meaning is real not figurative on what she/he stated on their Twitter account. The conclusion is the use of slang must be in accordance with the context when, where, with whom to speak because not all slang terms are used in all situations. The use of slang can be used among teenagers, among colleagues, in casual or informal situations. Users of slang terms must be smart in placing the words because if they do not know how to place the words, they will be considered as an impolite or arrogant person by others. From the results of the research above, tweet users use the word literally by giving the meaning is not out of the context of speech, the meaning is acceptable and understandable by others

Abstract

The semantic analysis attempts to define and completely comprehend the word’s meaning. The purpose of this study was to delve into the types of lexical relations in verbal humor and investigate the humor styles of the American sitcom The Office. This study used a qualitative design to collect data on verbal humor. The findings revealed that The Office frequently uses homonym, polysemy, hyponym, antonym and synonym in the construction of humor and potentially creates a humorous effect. Additionally, the humor style of the sitcom is sarcastic humor. It can be concluded that linguistically the use of homonym, polysemy, hyponym, antonym and synonym in the punchline provides an amusing effect and generates a comical situation. On the other hand, it also creates an ambiguity effect which results in a double interpretation of certain jokes due to the multiple meanings of a single word.

Abstract

Pengaruh ice breaking diberikan pada kelas IV dalam proses pembelajaran di SDN 1 Aweh tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode experiment, yang melibatkan 30 peserta didik. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan instrument dan kisi-kisi soal berupa kuisioner yang telah dinyatakan valid dan realibel. Hasil semangat belajar peserta didik sudah memenuhi uji prasyarat analisis dan uji hipotesis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat pengaruh ice breaking dalam meningkatkan semangat belajar peserta didik di kelas IV SDN 1 Aweh. Uji normalitas menggunakan uji Liliefors. Uji homogenitas menggunakan uji Fisher hasil perhitungan diperoleh Fhitung 0,855 ≤ Ftabel 0,359 maka Ho diterima, artinya kedua kelompok data mempunyai varians yang sama atau homogen. Uji hipotesis menggunakan uji-t diperoleh Thitung 1,736 > Ttabel 1,701 maka Ho ditolak dan H1 diterima. Oleh karena itu, hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh ice breaking terhadap semangat belajar peserta didik

Abstract

This research aims to understand the semantics of the Baduy proverb "Lojor Teu Beunang Dipotong, Pondok Teu Beunang Disambung, Gede Teu Beunang Dicokot, Leutik Teu Beunang Ditambah" and gain insights into the proverbial wisdom of the Baduy community. In this study, we present the background of Baduy culture, describe the research objectives, explain the research methodology, present the research findings, and draw relevant conclusions. The background of this research reflects the importance of preserving the integrity and culture of the nation, including the preservation of the Baduy community's culture. The Baduy community is known for their strict adherence to traditions and their strong system of beliefs and norms. Baduy proverbs are an integral part of their cultural identity and serve as moral and social guidelines in their daily lives. The objective of this research is to understand the semantic meaning of the Baduy proverb and explore the wisdom embedded in it. The research methodology employed is semantic analysis, which involves dissecting the meanings of words and phrases in the proverb while considering the cultural context surrounding it. The research findings indicate that the Baduy proverb "Lojor Teu Beunang Dipotong, Pondok Teu Beunang Disambung, Gede Teu Beunang Dicokot, Leutik Teu Beunang Ditambah" reflects values such as justice, simplicity, and wisdom in managing daily life. The proverb emphasizes the importance of maintaining integrity, preserving unity, respecting hierarchy, and appreciating small things. Based on these findings, the conclusion of this research is that the wisdom of Baduy proverbs holds significant value in preserving culture and tradition. As the future generation, we are tasked with safeguarding the integrity and culture of our nation while upholding the prevailing customary rules. Thus, we can ensure the preservation of the Baduy tribe's culture while maintaining a harmonious balance with nature and their traditions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the differentiated learning in developing English reading skills among high school students. Differentiated learning provides the diverse learning needs of students by providing adjusted learning experiences. This qualitative research was conducted in a high school in Lebak Regency, involving in-depth interviews. Participants included 10 English teachers who were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews to explore perceptions and experiences. The results revealed that differentiated learning positively provided by teachers on 5 aspects, they are teaching materials, various teaching method, flexibility assignment, students grouping, and different assessment. Ten Teachers really understand how to treat various students in the classroom using varied learning strategies, such as tiered assignments and flexible grouping, helped meet individual student needs and improved engagement. The discussion highlights the effectiveness of differentiated learning in creating a supportive learning environment that addresses diverse learning styles and needs. It emphasizes the importance of teacher training and resource availability for successful implementation. The study concludes that differentiated learning is a valuable method for enhancing reading skills in high school students, promoting better educational outcomes and fostering inclusivity

Abstract

This study aims to increase child independence through role play in group B children in PAUD al-Hidayah. This type of  research is class action research (PTK). The action model used in this study used Kemmis & Mc techniques.  Taggart. It consists of four components: (1) planning (2) action (3) observation and (4) reflection. The subject of this  study was group B students aged 5-6 years in PAUD al-Hidayah District Tunjung Teja which had 13 children  consisting of 6 girls 7 boys. Tekhnik data collection is carried out by means of Observation, Interview, and  Documentation. The research is carried out in 2 cycles, each of which is in the form of planning, execution, results of  observations and reflection. This study was carried out with collaboration between teachers and researchers. From the  results of the study it was shown that role-playing can increase the independence of the child this is evident from the  results of observation before the action and after the action. It is evident from the results of child independence in the  pre cycle 62.88% and the cycle I increase in child independence 77.50% and the second cycle the increase in child  independence reached 77.50% and has met the average percentage that has been targeted. Based on the research, it  can be concluded that through role-playing methods it can improve the independence ability of PAUD al-Hidayah  children of Tunjung Teja District.
