Abstract

This study examines students' perceptions of the use of digital media in English language learning at Teacher Training and Education College of Insan Madani. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with students enrolled in English language courses. The findings indicate that students perceive digital media as an effective and flexible tool that enhances their language acquisition. Platforms such as YouTube, Duolingo, Zoom, Google Classroom, and WhatsApp were particularly valued for their ability to provide authentic English exposure, interactive learning experiences, and opportunities for autonomous learning. However, despite the benefits, students also identified several challenges, including limited internet access, digital literacy gaps, and distractions from non-educational content. The study suggests that a blended learning approach, combining digital media with structured classroom instruction, could help mitigate these challenges and maximize the benefits of technology in English language learning. Additionally, institutions should focus on enhancing digital literacy training and improving internet accessibility to support students in effectively utilizing digital tools. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on technology-enhanced language learning, particularly within the context of Islamic teacher training institutions, and provides insights for future studies on optimizing digital media use in English education.

Abstract

Achalasia is a condition characterized by the absence of lower esophageal peristalsis and the lower esophageal sphincter, resulting in incomplete relaxation and swallowing difficulties. This literature review aims to identify POEM-TIF as a modified technique that can be directly compared with LHM, currently considered the gold standard, to evaluate long-term effectiveness, safety, and quality of life in postoperative patients. The article was compiled using a literature review method. The literature used was selected based on inclusion criteria, namely articles relevant to achalasia, Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), and Laparoscopic Heller Myotomy (LHM). The literature review found that achalasia is a rare condition with a global prevalence ranging from 1.8 to 12.6 per 100,000 people per year. As understanding of the pathophysiology of achalasia increases, various treatment options have evolved. The latest technique, Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), offers the advantage of being less invasive and having a higher success rate for type III achalasia compared to LHM. However, POEM has the same drawbacks, namely a higher incidence of postoperative GERD compared to LHM. This latest research developed a modification of POEM therapy known as POEM-TIF, a combination of POEM and Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF). The addition of Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) as an additional procedure can help reduce reflux symptoms and improve patients' quality of life by creating a more effective barrier between the stomach and esophagus. Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of LHM compared to POEM-TIF, which has anti-reflux properties, is crucial for in-depth study considering the impact of achalasia on quality of life.

Abstract

This study compares English language education in Indonesia and Australia, focusing on cross-curricular integration, teacher autonomy, technology use, and the influence of sociopolitical contexts on curriculum design. While both countries aim to enhance English language proficiency, their approaches differ significantly due to contextual factors. In Australia, the decentralized education system promotes teacher autonomy, allowing for innovative, student-centered teaching practices, cross-curricular integration, and frequent use of technology to enhance language learning. In contrast, Indonesia’s centralized education system, heavily influenced by national exam structures, limits the flexibility of teachers and the integration of English across subjects. Despite recent reforms, teachers in Indonesia face challenges in adopting modern pedagogies due to resource constraints and the continued focus on standardized testing. Through a qualitative comparative analysis of policy documents, curriculum standards, and teacher perspectives, this study highlights the importance of localized educational reforms. The findings suggest that fostering teacher autonomy, improving technology access, and reducing exam-driven practices could lead to more effective, cross-curricular English language education in Indonesia. The study also emphasizes the role of sociopolitical factors in shaping curriculum design and calls for greater international collaboration in sharing best practices to enhance English education in both countries.
