Abstract

The provision of drug information (PDI) is a crucial factor influencing consumer behavior and ensuring appropriate drug use, thereby achieving therapeutic goals. With advancements in technology, digital platforms such as tele-counseling, WhatsApp, and social media are increasingly being used for PDI. However, challenges such as unclear communication, incomplete information, and delayed responses remain, which may affect consumer satisfaction. This study aims to assess consumer satisfaction with PDI through the implementation of a pharmacy application, using the End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) model, which evaluates information content, accuracy, format, ease of use, and timeliness. The research employed an associative, cross-sectional design and involved 250 consumers at Atma Jaya Pharmacy. Data were collected via a Likert-scale-based questionnaire, with responses analyzed to determine satisfaction levels in each EUCS dimension. Results showed that consumer satisfaction was consistently high across all dimensions, with the average satisfaction scores being 89.10% for information content, 90.19% for accuracy, 87.25% for format, 85.33% for ease of use, and 86.78% for timeliness. In conclusion, the use of technology in PDI significantly enhances consumer satisfaction, offering more accessible, accurate, and timely drug information. This study highlights the importance of optimizing technological tools in pharmaceutical services to improve user experience and satisfaction.

Abstract

The effervescent tablet is an alternative dosage form to deliver the active pharmaceutical ingredients or natural products for therapeutic effects. Moreover, this dosage form is also used in the food industry for nutritional drinks. The tablet is preferred because of its practicality, improve water solubility, refreshing taste, and more easily absorbed than the conventional tablet. Tablet’s water dissolving time in the medium will affect the rate and amount of active ingredients. The disintegrating time of effervescent tablets is affected by the concentration of both acid and base elements, the tablet binder’s concentration (PVP), the interaction between citric acid and tartaric acid, and the concentration of the base element, the water content over the tablet, and the lubricant’s variation. The acid will affect the disintegration time however its imbalance will decrease the freshness. Therefore, an optimal balance of the base and acid element is required to make an effervescent tablet with a good disintegration time and an appropriate refreshing taste.

Abstract

The Indonesian government recommended sunbathing for 15 to 30 minutes in the morning to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. Exposure to sunlight will activate the formation of vitamin D, which the body needs for defense against Covid-19 infection. However, excessive sun exposure will cause skin problems, including psoriasis, sarcoidosis, sunburn to skin cancer. One of the protections against sun exposure is the use of sunscreen. Sunscreen protects the skin from UV exposure by two mechanisms, namely, absorbing UV rays or reflecting UV rays. Currently, many sunscreens are developed with active substances derived from nature in various dosage forms. Sunscreen protection is stated using a photoprotector claim in the form of an SPF value or other supporting claims. This SPF value can be claimed using in vivo test, which previously could be predicted by on paper and in vitro approaches. Sunscreen safety is carried out by ensuring that the raw materials used comply with the requirements and penetration tests.

Abstract

Indonesia is a relatively large market for the cosmetics industry in the hair care category. Teenagers and young adults are among the dominant segments in cosmetic consumption. Hair and scalp problems often experienced are hair loss and unhealthy hair structure. This problem can be overcome with hair serum. This dosage form is attractive because it can be purchased freely and is quite promising due to its high active substance content. Various types of hair serums are available on the market so that they can be adjusted based on user preferences. The high level of public consumption of hair serum needs to be balanced with education regarding hair serum. The education process uses lecture and workshop methods related to identifying hair problems, the nutrition needed by hair, and the types and formulation of hair serum. The workshop was conducted directly by involving participants in producing the hair serum. The educational process was attended by 24 students aged 19-22 years, 21% coming from outside Atma Jaya and 79% from internal Atma Jaya. Gender includes 19% of men and the rest of women. The educational process increased the understanding of 92% of participants, with an average score from 5.9 to 9.75. As many as 96% of participants were very interested and stated that this workshop supported the theory that had been given to make it easier to understand.

Abstract

The consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) has increased among adolescents, leading to adverse health effects such as a higher risk of type II diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disorders, and obesity. This educational program aims to enhance students' understanding of the adverse effects of SSB consumption through lectures and workshops. The education was conducted at SMA Santo Kristoforus II on 26 April 2024 as part of a community service activity by the Pharmacy Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. The methods employed included delivering material on daily sugar requirements, the sugar metabolism cycle, the adverse effects of excessive sugar consumption, the sugar content in foods and drinks, and strategies to reduce sugar intake. Additionally, sugar content measurements were conducted on various packaged beverages using a refractometer. Pretest and post-test were used as indicators of the performance of the education process. Pretest results showed an average student understanding score of 63.8, which increased to 79.78 on the post-test, indicating a significant improvement in students' comprehension. The distribution of scores also improved, with more students achieving higher scores after their education. A satisfaction survey revealed that over 75% of students found the program beneficial and aligned with their needs. The increases in understanding and high satisfaction levels demonstrate the effectiveness of this program in conveying relevant and practical information. This educational program can be expanded to other schools to reduce SSB consumption among adolescents and mitigate health risks associated with excessive sugar intake.

Abstract

Pengunaan kosmetik Indonesia mengalami peningkatan selama beberapa tahun terakhir.
