Abstract

A children group with 8 to 10 years of aged (3 to 4 elementary school grades) is a naive and a real thinking period of time, it’s also a periode of time to gather knowledge, and a games is chosen as a tool that is in accordance with the target, so that dental and oral health education can produce behavioral changes for them as a target. The results from an observation of a preliminary study that had been done on 10 students in SDN Gambut 11, consist of 6 students from the third grade and the rest 4 students from the fourth, resulted an average def-t was 3.8 and 6.2 an average DMF-T rate. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of counseling using a rotary wheel media on dental caries knowledge for the third and fourth grade students of SDN Gambut 11. The research design using "One Group Pretest-Posttest", Involving 56 people as a sample, with total sampling techniques followed by Paired Sample T-test used as a statistical tests. The results showed that there was an influence on counseling before and after using the rotary wheel media on dental caries knowledge. Based on the Paired Sample T-test, it was found that the value of ρ = 0.000 with α = 0.05 so ρ < α, so then Ho was rejected and Ha being accepted. Research concluded there has an influence of counseling using rotary media on dental caries knowledge in third and fourth grade of SDN Gambut 11 studens. It is recommended to estblished a promotion activities like dental caries counseling by local health center officers or teachers by using games or the other types of media in order to help elementary school children to increase the dental caries knowledgement.

Abstract

Data from the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Health 2013 shows that the percentage of people with dental and mouth problems in South Kalimantan is 36.1%. Plaque is one of the causes of caries that occurs in the world population in the amount of 75-90%. Gig plaque is a soft layer that is firmly attached to the surface of a tooth which if not cleaned will cause periodental disease and caries due to poor oral hygiene. This study aims to determine the effect of rinsing celery solution on plaque score reduction in fith grade students at SDN Landasan Ulin Barat 1. This type of research is a type of library research, the research design is an experimental study and is laboratory in nature. The results to this study showed that the ethanol extract of celery stems with concentrations of 12.5%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% had smaller inhibitory zones than the positive control group. The inhibition zone diameter of the K + group is 6 mm, then K 12.5% is 1 mm, K 15% is 1 mm, K 25% is 1 mm, K 50% is 1.3 mm, K 75% is 1.6 mm and 100% K by 1.6 mm and the negative control group has no inhibition zone. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of celery stems has an antibacterial power against the growth of Streptococcus mutans ATCC 35668 with inhibitory power under chlorhexidine. The best concentration (the biggest inhibition zone) is concentration with 75% extract.

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting among children under five in the working area of Puskesmas (Community Health Centers) Karang Intan 2, based on data from the Banjar District Health Office in October 2022, was recorded at 506 cases. Dental and oral health issues, particularly dental caries, are among the most common health problems globally, affecting nearly half of the world's population or approximately 3.58 billion people. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research, dental caries, including decayed or damaged teeth, accounted for 45.3% of dental problems in Indonesia. This study aims to investigate rampant caries among stunted children aged 2–5 years in Pulau Nyiur Village, Karang Intan Subdistrict, Banjar District, South Kalimantan.  The study employed a descriptive research design with a total sampling technique, involving 50 children aged 2–5 years attending the Posyandu within the working area of Puskesmas Karang Intan 2. The results revealed that male children outnumbered females in the sample. Among the participants, 36 children (72%) were stunted, while 14 children (28%) were not. The most common type of rampant caries was Type 3, affecting 15 children (31%), followed by Type 4 with 14 children (27%), Type 1 with 13 children (26%), and Type 2 as the least common, affecting 8 children (16%).  It can be concluded that stunted children aged 2–5 years in Pulau Nyiur Village have a significant prevalence of rampant caries, with Type 3 being the most frequently observed. Additionally, the majority of stunted children in this study were male. These findings highlight the need for integrated interventions addressing both nutritional and dental health to reduce the prevalence of stunting and caries among young children.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is increasing every day so it is necessary to control efforts, namely by killing larvae using bay leaf plants (Syzygium polyanthum). The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the larvicidal solution of bay leaf in controlling larvae of Aedes sp. This research uses the true experiment method with Post Test Only Group Design. The concentration variations used were 0%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 35% in 100 mL of water with 4 repetitions. The population and samples used were Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus instar III larvae, each containing 600 larvae containing 25 larvae in each container. The results showed that the LC50 of bay leaf solution within 24 hours had the largest number of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus larvae mortality at a concentration of 35% with 100% mortality. The results of the Anova Two Way test obtained a sig value. 0.000 < ɑ (0.05), meaning that there is an influence on the yield of dead larvae based on variations in concentration. It was concluded that each concentration of bay leaf solution could kill a different percentage of larvae. Suggestions for further researchers to determine the concentration variation of bay leaf larvicide solution which is more effective in killing Aedes sp.
