Abstract

Chinese Muslims have a cultural identity as a double minority. In Islam, they are a minority within their ethnic religion and remain a minority among other ethnic groups in Indonesia. This ethnic group embraces Islam mostly because of religious conversion. The aspect of religious conversion makes ethnic Chinese come to Islam. This study aims to find the expression of Muslim in Surabaya, who are using social action tools asa manifestation of their faith to gain trust from the mainstream while maintaining their cultural identity as Chinese so as not to experience alienation in their communities. This study found that Chinese Muslim’s social theology in Surabaya serves as an articulation of cosmopolitan Islam that is successfully integrated into an inclusive Chinese identity. This also confirms that being a good Muslim is not in a binary position with being a pure Chinese. Besides, the theological vision of Chinese Muslims is expressed not only by maintaining its cultural background, but also through social movements that are inspired and based on Islamic dogmatic teachings that emphasize human values. Keywords: Social Theology, Chinese Muslims, Existential Problems

These include formulating the goals of extracurricular activities in line with the school's vision and mission, determining the implementation team, developing curriculum programs, creating extracurricular activities, innovating learning outside the classroom, and implementing habituation, modeling, and supervision. The principal plays a crucial role in planning, organizing, and supervising the program. At the same time, supervisory teachers are responsible for enhancing religious understanding, guiding the internalization process, and training students. Support for the program comes from various sources, including the school, student guardians, the Islamic boarding school environment, the creativity of supervisory teachers, and high student interest. However, challenges include a lack of awareness among community members and parents. In conclusion, the study underscores the importance of a collaborative effort involving school administration, teachers, students, and parents in effectively strengthening students' religious character through extracurricular activities. Abstract

Indonesia has a federation organization that brings together several Islamic organizations. This organization is known as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). One of his duties is to issue Islamic legal fatwas to serve as guidelines for the Muslim community. However, on a practical level, quite a few fatwas give rise to polemics. In several cases of intolerance and mobilization of political interests, MUI fatwas are often used as a means of legitimation. This article wants to discuss the contestation of the MUI fatwa with the dynamics of Islamic thought in Indonesia in the context of the digital era. Data was obtained from online news documents regarding MUI fatwas in several cases with social problems. This research found that the MUI fatwa polemic arose due to the need to consider Indonesia's social setting and political conditions. Hence, Islamic law products were prone to being misused and misunderstood. This study also argues that the MUI authorities must package the fatwa by prioritizing cultural diversity, social impacts, and political tensions at that time. Thus, the MUI fatwa must be formulated apart from being based on scientific grounds and supported by good online media infrastructure. So they will be better able to contest with the new religious authority in the post-truth era. Good fatwa packaging via social media is also oriented towards finding substantial values in responding to community problems based on the principle of uniting the community (tauhid al-ummah) and protecting the community (himayat al-ummah).

Abstract

Bullying in educational institutions remains a prevalent issue in Indonesia, with significant cases reported across various levels of schooling. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) recorded over 810 child abuse cases in schools in 2023, with bullying being a major concern. One notable case involved a junior high school student in Sukabumi who lost their life due to physical bullying by peers. This study examines the role of Islamic Education teachers at MAN 2 Lamongan in addressing bullying, particularly through positive psychology, character building, and social-emotional learning. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving Islamic Education teachers, counseling staff, and students. The findings indicate that Islamic Education teachers play multifaceted roles as educators, counselors, motivator, role models and administrator. They implement anti-bullying strategies by incorporating Islamic values into lessons, conducting moral education, and fostering a supportive school environment. Despite these efforts, students reluctance to report bullying incidents remains a challenge. To enhance anti-bullying measures, schools should strengthen teacher training, increase the involvment of other stakeholders such as school staff or parents, and develop comprehensive policies that include digital literacy to combat cyberbullying. This study highlights the critical role of educators in creating a safe school atmosphere and suggests further research on intervention effectiveness in Islamic educational contexts.
