Abstract

This study aims to measure the increase in student learning outcomes from cognitive aspects and student activity between active quiz type learning methods and conventional methods. The sampling technique is non-random sampling. Data was collected using the pre-test and post-test for cognitive aspects while the affective aspects used the observation. Analysis of the data used the normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis test used is a two-party t test. The results show that tcount= 7.273 > ttable= 2.01 at a significant level of 5%. It means that there are significant differences for cognitive aspects between learning outcomes using the team quiz type and conventional methods of active learning methods. Overall the team quiz method is more effective for improving student learning outcomes from cognitive aspects, and student activities.

Abstract

The Bright stars that were seen by the eyes are the received quantity of the energy flux sent from the celestial body. The energy flux is inversely proportional to the distant quadrant which means that the light of the stars that are visible to our eyes cannot be compared to the actual brightness or even weaker than the others and the visible star lights the apparent magnitude. The purpose of this study is to measure the apparent magnitude of Mars. This research methodology is quantitative, by taking number of images/videos of Mars and then the data is processed by using IRIS software. The results of the analysis is using IRIS software that shows the value of the apparent magnitude of Mars on August 1st, 2018 is (-1.56 ± 0.33) and October 2nd 2018 is (-1.84 ± 0.08). This was taken by selecting the best image result in clear night sky.

Abstract

Measuring the brightness of the night sky and determining the start of Fajr prayer times can be done using SQM. Observations were made at OIF UMSU with coordinates 3o 34' 55.06" N and 98o 43' 17.09" E. The sky brightness was measured using three SQMs mounted facing the zenith, eastern horizon, and western horizon. The night sky brightness values for SQM directed to the zenith, eastern horizon, and western horizon are 18.23 mpsas, 15.82 mpsas, and 15.47 mpsas. The beginning of fajr prayer time produced by SQM is after the beginning of fajr prayer time obtained using the Accurate Times concerning the Sun's altitude 18o below the horizon. The difference obtained by SQM directed to the zenith, eastern horizon, and western horizon is 29.5 minutes, 36.7 minutes, and 39.5 minutes. In other words, the beginning of Fajr prayer time used in Indonesia is earlier than it should be.

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between the UV Index and measurements of ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation to evaluate the effectiveness of the UV Index in predicting and understanding UV radiation at the surface. The implications of this study are significant for public health policies and UV protection strategies. This study used a variety of statistical analyses and modelling techniques, including ANOVA, Naive Bayes classification, decision trees, artificial neural networks, support vector machines (SVM), and k-means clustering, to examine relationships and predict UV Index values. ANOVA analysis showed a significant relationship between the UV Index and UVA and UVB measurements. Prediction models such as Naive Bayes classification, decision trees, and artificial neural networks showed variability in their accuracy. Notably, SVM showed a high degree of accuracy in predicting UV Index values, while k-means clustering effectively clustered the data based on similarities in UV Index and UV measurements. These findings confirm that the UV Index is a reliable indicator for predicting and understanding UV radiation levels at the Earth's surface. This research underscores the importance of developing more accurate and precise UV Index prediction models. Further investigation is essential to understand the temporal variations and environmental impacts on the UV Index, as well as the broader implications of UV exposure on public health. This study lays a strong foundation for the development of early warning systems and more effective UV protection strategies, ultimately improving public health outcomes and safety measures against UV radiation.

Abstract

Saat ini Jamaah Warga Muhammadiyah Cabang Medan Helvetia belum begitu memahami Kalender Hijriyah Global Tunggal (KHGT), baik dari segi konsep, argumentasi dan Implementasinya. Sementara itu Muhammadiyah sudah akan segera memberlakukan KHGT oleh karena itu pengabdian ini penting dilakukan agar masyarakat Indonesia, khususnya warga persyarikatan dapat memahami KHGT dengan baik. Metode yang akan digunakan dalam pelaksanaan program ini dimulai dari tahap persiapan program, tahap pelaksanaan program, dan tahap evaluasi program. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa warga yang sebelumnya tidak memahami konsep, argumentasi dan implementasi dari KHGT dan setelah dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian ini para warga dapat memahami dengan baik konsep, argumentasi dan implementasi KHGT hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan mampu menjawab contoh kasus yang diberikan.

Abstract

An analysis of light pollution has been carried out based on the reading of a photometercalled Sky Quality Meter (SQM) which shows the level of light pollution expressed in the MPASSreference. This study aims to determine the increase in light pollution in the city of Medan and to findout the implications for astronomical observations there. Light pollution distribution maps data andradiance quantity data are obtained through a platform that presents light pollution mapping and isfurther analyzed with literacy studies. Its Found that the radiance value is proportional to the level ofpollution and is influenced by the population of civilization in Medan from 2017 to 2022 soastronomical observations and phenomena are also decreasing to be visible.

Abstract

Education is a process of providing understanding to someone to achieve a certain goal. Islamic education is an absolute thing that must be received by every follower of the Islamic religion with the aim that all practices carried out are based on correct understanding, in order to live in accordance with Islamic values. This research was conducted to determine the form of understanding of Islamic education among students as well as efforts to improve and strengthen it in the family, school and community environment. This research uses a qualitative method using a descriptive approach. The results of this research include three forms of understanding approaches that can be carried out to increase students' understanding and several forms of activities that can be carried out to strengthen Islamic education. Pendidikan merupakan proses memberikan pemahaman kepada seseorang untuk mencapai suatu tujuan tertentu. Pendidikan Islam adalah hal mutlak yang harus diterima oleh setiap pemeluk agama Islam dengan tujuan agar segala amalan yang dilakukan berlandaskan pemahaman yang benar, untuk kesesuaian hidup dengan nilai-nilai dalam Islam. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui bentuk pemahaman pendidikan Islam dikalangan siswa serta upaya peningkatan dan penguatannya dilingkungan keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat. Penelitian ini dengan metode kualitatif menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif. Hasil penelitian yang ini diantaranya terdapat tiga bentuk pendekatan pemahaman yang dapat dilakukan untuk peningkatan pemahaman siswa dan beberapa bentuk kegiatan yang dapat dilakukan untuk menguatkan pendidikan Islam.

Abstract

The determination of prayer times initially only used the direct observation method (rukyat) namely observing the shadow of an object, then the determination of prayer times developed with the advent of the calculation method (hisab). The purpose of this study is to make a simulation of the calculation of prayer times using a spreadsheet. A simulation of the calculation of prayer times using a spreadsheet has been made. The prayer times generated by the spreadsheet are not much different from the prayer times obtained from the Accurate Times application. The simulation that has been made can show the effect of the Earth's revolution at prayer times at various latitudes.

Abstract

Astronomy learning is often considered difficult by most students of the Astronomy study program at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara., so effective learning media in the form of digital comics is needed. This type of research is research and development (R&D), which follows the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development procedure. This research is only limited to the development stage. Comics are developed using Canva because they are easy to use on all devices and provide many features that make it easy for users to create graphic designs. The validation results from media and material experts on the comics developed each have an average value of 91% and 92% or are included in the very good criteria. These results indicate that digital astronomy comics can be used in learning. This research is limited to the development stage, so its effectiveness in learning cannot be known. The effectiveness and practicality of this digital astronomy comic can be known through the implementation stage.

Abstract

Light pollution is a worldwide problem that affects fewer stars that can be seen at night. This study aims to measure the brightness of the sky in the zenith direction to minimize the effect of light pollution in observing celestial bodies. The research used the observation method of sky brightness level with SQM. Measurement of sky brightness was carried out in two places, namely in Medan and Serdang Bedagai. The SQM is mounted in a zenith direction and set to retrieve data every two seconds. Observations were made on November 10-13, 2018, during the new moon phase. The average value of sky brightness obtained in Medan is 18.05 mpsas and the NELM value is 4.00. Based on the Bortle scale, Medan is included in the ninth class area, namely the inner-city sky. Meanwhile, the average value of sky brightness obtained in Serdang Bedagai is 19.69 mpsas and the NELM value is 5.26. Based on the Bortle scale, Serdang Bedagai belongs to the sixth class area, namely bright suburban sky.
