Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi yang terjadi saat ini berdampak pada sumber daya manusia yang dituntut untuk beradaptasi dengan perkembangan zaman. Dalam dunia pendidikan, guru adalah sumber daya manusia yang diharapkan mampu beradaptasi dengan perkembangan teknologi untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran di dalam kelas. Guru bahasa inggris saat ini diharapkan mampu memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi khususnya aplikasi pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan untuk media pengajaran dan pembelajaran siswa. Penelitian ini memaparkan informasi mengenai applikasi yang dapat digunakan dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris dan mencoba menjelaskan tentang manfaatnya. Penulis menggunakan kajian pustaka dalam menggali informasi dan melalukan pencarian artikel yang dipublikasikan dari 2017-2022 dengan google scholar dengan kata kunci aplikasi dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris. Hasil kajian pustaka menunjukkan YouTube, Podcast, Vodcasts, Duolingo, Tik Tok, WhatsApp, Englishgame-based Mobile Application (EBMA), U-Dictionary, Quizizz, canva, grammarly, facebook, telegram, dan Instagram dapat dijadikan rujukan oleh guru dalam memilih aplikasi yang sesuai dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris. Apliaksi tersebut memberikan kontribusi positif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan bahasa inggris siswa.

Abstract

Abstrak. Pandemic era effects to the teaching and learning English process. It also forces students to use laptop and gadget in joining the class and completing the assignments. Information and Communication Technology Literacy (ICTL) is essential for EFL students in facilitating their daily activities in studies. The students’ engagement with technology can illustrate their ICTL level. This research aims to explain the ICTL level of EFL students at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. The method of analysis for this purpose is a descriptive survey analysis. The participants of this study are 6th semester students. The data is collected through questionnaires. The data will be collected and analyzed through the theory proposed by ICTL Panel 2007. The data was analyzed in percentages, frequency counts, and make conclusions. The finding showed that the level of ICTL of EFL students at IAIN Syekh Nurjati was high cognitively and practically. It can be seen that the means score of cognitive proficiency was 80.82%. Moreover, the data of students’ practical proficiency was 75.62%. Based on the data above, it can be said that the students are ICT literate and have high competency using technology.Key words: ICTL level, EFL students, descriptive survey, high competency

Abstract

The zeitgeist of studying CP has attracted scholars, particularly in Indonesia, to scrutinize its application in the ELT context. Previous studies endeavor to approach CP in the ELT through examining classroom interaction and maxim violation and flouting. Yet, limited studies have been attempted to deeply delineate and unravel its implication to culture and the online learning environment. Tapping further into the application of CP in an online learning environment may paint a rosy picture of how people cooperate in an online environment to avoid misunderstanding. This study also suggests an analysis and comparison of CP in the different cultural backgrounds as a promising study especially in Indonesia with its abundant cultural diversity.

Abstract

Classroom management has been of interest for decades. EFL Pre-service teachers at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon had experiences in teaching practices and classroom management. They had completed teaching practices at formal school for two months. This quantitative research employed factor analysis to determine the research variables that affect classroom management. The variables of classroom management involved in this study are discipline, organization of the lesson, interaction during the lesson, teacher-student personal communication, and psychological and social classroom environment. The findings show that the KMO Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA) number is 0.800. Because the value is 0.800 (> 0.5), it means that all factors influence EFL pre-service teachers’ experience in classroom management. This study highlights discipline as the main factors contributing to classroom management. This study also highlights the role of the university in preparing pre-service teachers to be ready for their future teaching practice.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the independent curriculum meets the requirements and desires of a wide range of students, providing an alternative to the government-mandated curriculum without sacrificing educational quality or preparing students for careers or post-secondary education both locally and abroad. The purpose of this research was to explore English teachers’ perspectives related to the independent curriculum, its implementation, and its challenges at one of the senior high schools in Cirebon City. This research used a case study approach with qualitative methods and the subjects were two English teachers who taught English with the independent curriculum. Observation, interviews, and documentation were used to collect the data. The results show that regarding the implementation of the independent curriculum, English teachers give their positive (29.2%), negative (29.2%), neutral (33.3%), and unclear (8.3%) perspectives. The Implementation of the independent curriculum in learning English is carried out by strengthening the Pancasila student profile project and learning. The implementation of learning English includes three stages: planning, implementing, and evaluating. However, there are several challenges, such as a lack of student motivation and the poor mindset of students towards English.Keywords: independent curriculum, implementation, teachers’ challenges.

Abstract

In this Era, English textbook is still used as one of important sources in the teaching and learning process by the teachers. The contents of English textbook should fulfill students’ need and cover 21st skills which are useful for students in their future life. Hence, the analysis of English textbook is essential to be conducted. This research aims to describe the general overviews of two English textbooks and to describe 21st century skills are represented in the speaking task of vocational high school textbooks. This research used qualitative research and document analysis is used as technique of collecting data. Two English textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Culture and Erlangga have good and very good content category, which is adapted by the Cunningsworth checklist. This means that two books have the capacity to be textbooks and in vocational high school for tenth grade. Moreover, both books have almost excellent category in learning and innovation skills or 4c skills like have lot of percent of Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity. And also have a lot percent in Life skills like FLIPS except Leadership.

Abstract

One of the most important abilities for learning English well is the capacity to listen, both in formal and informal settings. When studying a language, listening comprehension helps students comprehend a range of spoken texts, from formal speeches to casual conversations. Students who have good listening skills are able to understand key details, determine the main points of the message, and correctly interpret meaning. The teacher's ability to plan the listening exercise aids the students in developing their listening skills. Understanding students' habits when learning to listen is the first step toward a successful teaching career. This research explains the application that was used, the listening tactics employed by the EFL students, and the challenges they had when completing the application. Eighty-two new students in the English Language Teaching Department (ELTD) comprise the research population, and 15 students were interviewed randomly. This study uses qualitative research methods. The information was gathered from observation and interviews. Coding, example-taking, and description were used to analyze the data findings. The findings indicate that when learning to listen, EFL students are more likely to employ metacognitive strategies than cognitive or socio-affective strategies. Students use YouTube, Twitter, Joox, TOEFL, Spotify, Podcasts, Dou Linggo, BBC Learning, Instagram, Praat, Google Translate, Tune In, and Pronunciation in Use as applications for learning to listen. Students face challenges when using applications due to internal factors (students and listeners) as well as external factors (Internet bandwidth and speakers). This finding should aid teachers in creating a listening lesson plan that takes into account the needs and personalities of their students.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the kind of media and the advantages and disadvantages of media the process of teaching speaking at Senior High School 1 Gegesik Cirebon. This research used a qualitative method using descriptive qualitative. The instrument of this research is the researcher herself. To collect the data, the researcher used interviews. Interview technique used to answer the first and second question. The result shows that: (1) Visual material, such as textbooks, auditory media, such as songs, and audiovisual media, such as movies and videos, as well as digital media, such as YouTube, were all used by the teacher. (2) The advantages of using media in teaching and learning speaking are students understand the material easily, make the students interested in the learning process and the students become more active to practice their speaking by giving comment, question, and answering the question. On the other hand, the disadvantages of using media are noisy class, students feeling shy, and the student’s loss of control
