Abstract

Background: Many chronic diseases that occur in society can be caused by free radicals. Excessive free radicals in the body can contribute to oxidative stress. Therefore, the role of antioxidants in needed to inhibit the effects of free radicals. Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is a plant that contains several active compounds. The lime juice was reported to contain flavonoids and ascorbic acid which have several bioactivities including antioxidants. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the chemical compounds and determine antioxidant activity in the lime juice powder of lime fruit collected from Ujung Pangkah, Gresik. Material and Methods: Lime was squeezed and dried by a freeze-dryer to remove the water content. The phytochemical profile of lime juice powder was evaluated by thin layer chromatography (TLC) method and ascorbic acid content in lime juice powder was determined further. The antioxidant activity was analyzed using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) method. Results: The results of the study showed that lime juice powder contained flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, and steroids. The ascorbic acid content was 0.38 mg/100mg. Antioxidant activities revealed strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 32.59 mg/mL, while an IC50 value of ascorbic acid showed 8.57 mg/mL. Conclusions: Lime juice powder has potential as an antioxidant with an IC50 value of lime juice powder being categorized to possess very strong antioxidant activity.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Di Indonesia ada sekitar 40 jenis minyak atsiri yang sudah diproduksi, salah satu diantaranya adalah Sereh. Minyak atsiri sereh dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai wewangian anti nyamuk, dan antibakteri. Namun pemanfaatannya di Desa Takuti masih belum maksimal, dan pengetahuan tentang minyak atsiri perlu dikembangkan, terutama kepada masyarakat Desa Takuti yang merupakan salah satu desa di Kecamatan Mataraman, Kabupaten Banjar yang mayoritas masyarakatnya adalah petani dan pedagang. Oleh karena itu, dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat meliputi penyuluhan dan demonstrasi pembuatan minyak atsiri menggunakan alat destilasi sederhana yang dapat masyarakat tersebut buat sendiri dan pembuatan produk berbasis minyak atsiri seperti sabun sereh dan lilin aromaterapi, hal ini dilakukan guna meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemanfaatan tanaman sereh di Desa Takuti. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap minyak atsiri dan pemanfaatannya. Peningkatan dari pengetahuan masyarakat dapat terjadi karena pengaruh dari pemberian  penyuluhan dan juga leaflet yang telah dibagikan. Kata Kunci: Tanaman Lokal, Minyak Atsiri Sereh, Sabun alami, Lilin Aromaterapi ABSTRACT In Indonesia there are around 40 types of essential oils that are produced, one of which is Lemongrass. Lemongrass essential oil can be used as an anti-mosquito fragrance and antibacterial. However, its use in Takuti Village is still not optimal, and knowledge about essential oils needs to be developed, especially among the people of Takuti Village, which is one of the villages in Mataraman District, Banjar Regency, where the majority of the people are farmers and traders. Therefore, society service activities are carried out including counseling and demonstrations on making essential oils using a simple distillation tool that the community can make themselves and making essential oil-based products such as citronella soap and aromatherapy candles, this is done to increase knowledge and use of citronella plants in Takuti Village. The results of this activity show an increase in public knowledge of essential oils and their uses. An increase in public knowledge can occur due to the influence of providing counseling and also leaflets that have been distributed. Keywords: Local Plants, Lemongrass Oil, Handmade soap, Aromatherapy Candle

Abstract

ABSTRAK Desa Takuti merupakan salah satu desa di Kecamatan Mataraman yang memiliki potensi untuk dilakukan pengembangan produk berbasis minyak atsiri dari tanaman sereh. Pada kegiatan sebelumnya telah dilakukan penyuluhan dan demonstrasi pengambilan minyak atsiri secara destilasi dengan sasaran warga masyarakat desa. Pada kegiatan pendampingan ini menyasar kader PKK Desa Takuti yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kader PKK dalam membuat sediaan sabun dan lilin aromaterapi sehingga dapat meningkatkan kreativitas UMKM setempat. Metode kegiatan terdiri dari 3 tahapan yaitu tahap persiapan berupa perizinan, tahap pelaksanaan yang diawali dengan penyerahan dan perakitan alat destilasi kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pendampingan kelompok dalam pembuatan sabun dan lilin aromaterapi, lalu tahap terakhir yaitu evaluasi berupa pengisian kuesioner pretest dan postest. Hasil dari kegiatan ini yaitu dihasilkannya produk sabun dan lilin aromaterapi serta adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kader PKK. Kegiatan pendampingan terhadap kader PKK Desa Takuti berjalan lancar dengan nilai hasil kuesioner kepuasan peserta sebesar 97%.                                                                                        Kata Kunci: Desa Takuti, Sabun, Lilin Aromaterapi, Destilasi, Minyak Atsiri ABSTRACT Takuti Village is one of the villages in Mataraman District that has the potential to develop essential oil-based products from lemongrass plants. In previous activities, outreach and demonstrations on the extraction of essential oils by distillation were carried out targeting village residents. This mentoring activity targets PKK cadres in Takuti Village with the aim of increasing the ability of PKK cadres in making aromatherapy soap and candles so that they can increase the creativity of local micro, small, and medium enterprises. The activity method consists of 3 stages, namely handing over and assembling the distillation equipment, group assistance in making aromatherapy soap and candles, and filling out the pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results of this activity are the production of aromatherapy soap and candle products as well as increasing the knowledge and skills of PKK cadres. Mentoring activities for Takuti Village PKK cadres went smoothly with a participant satisfaction questionnaire score of 97%. Keywords: Takuti Village, Soap, Aromateraphy Candles, Distillation, Esential Oils

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) commonly used have associated side effects, necessitating the search for safer alternatives based on natural ingredients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a 70% ethanol extract emulgel of mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.) as an anti-inflammatory agent. The methodology employed is an experimental study involving the formulation of emulgel, which was tested on Wistar rats. The extraction process utilized maceration of mulberry leaves with 70% ethanol, yielding a concentrated extract that was then formulated into an emulgel. Anti-inflammatory activity was assessed using carrageenan induction and measuring edema volume in the test animals. The results indicated that the mulberry leaf extract emulgel exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity, with a p-value of <0.023, demonstrating a meaningful difference compared to the positive control. The formula with a concentration of 0.32% showed the best efficacy at 180 minutes. The conclusion of this study highlights the potential of the 70% ethanol extract emulgel of mulberry leaves as a safe and effective alternative for anti-inflammatory therapy, recommending further safety testing to ensure its safe use in the community.

Abstract

Mulberry leaves extract (Morus alba L.) has an IC50 of 8.35 µg/mL which is classified as a very strong antioxidant so it can be used as an active substance in cosmetic preparations such as Peel Off gel masks. An important component in Peel Off gel preparations is Gelling Agent. The type and concentration of each Gelling Agent can affect the characteristics of the preparation. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different Gelling Agents on the physical characteristics of Peel Off gel mask preparations from mulberry leaf extract. Mulberry leaves were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. Peel Off gel mask preparation is made in 9 formulas, namely formula 1-3 using Gelling Agent gelatin, formula 4-6 using Gelling Agent HPMC, formula 7-9 using Gelling Agent Carbopol 940. Physical characterization of the preparation includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesive power, viscosity and stability test Cycling Test. The results showed that all formulas had the same organoleptic before and after the stability test, formula 1-3 showed inhomogeneity after the stability test was carried out. The pH of formula 1-6 is in the good pH range (5.62-6.37) while F7-9 has a pH value of 7.04-7.31, the spreadability of the preparation decreased along with the increase in the concentration of Gelling Agent, namely from 17 g.cm/sec to 12 g.cm/sec for a load of 150 g, and the increase in the concentration of Gelling Agent affects the results of adhesive power and viscosity of the preparation. The viscosity values of F1-F3 are 3,666-110,000 mPa.s, F4-F7 with a range of 11,333-49,666 mPa.s, and F7-F9 44,333-162,333 mPa.s. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the difference in Gelling Agent in Peel Off gel mask preparations can affect the physical characteristics of the preparation.

Abstract

Infeksi bakteri lebih sering terjadi pada kulit karena kulit merupakan lapisan terluar tubuh. Ada bukti bahwa daun tanaman bandotan memiliki sifat antibakteri. Pengembangan formulasi sabun cair memungkinkan daun bandotan untuk mencapai potensi penuhnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa efektif sabun cair terhadap mikroorganisme Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Studi ini merupakan penelitian ekspirimen yang dilakukan di laboratorium untuk menguji aktivitas antibakteri sabun daun bandotan menggunakan difusi sumur pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa memiliki zona hambat sebesar 2 mm, yang termasuk kategori lemah, sedangkan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus memiliki zona hambat rata-rata sebesar 13 mm, yang termasuk kategori kuat. Dengan demikian, sediaan sabun cair memiliki nilai zona hambat rata-rata yang termasuk dalam kategori kuat terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Nilai zona hambat rata-rata ketika diujikan terhadap bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa masuk ke dalam kategori aktivitas antibakteri yang kurang baik
