Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of growth mindset training in improving psychological well-being. The research utilized a quasi-experimental approach with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design involving experimental and control groups. The sample consisted of students with low levels of psychological well-being. The analysis results indicated that the independent t-test showed a significance value (Sig(2-tailed)) of 0.000, which is statistically significant, indicating the effectiveness of the intervention. A difference was found in the psychological well-being post-test scores between the control group (M=86.82, SD=9.71) and the experimental group (M=97.47, SD=8.89). Additionally, an improvement was observed in the experimental group's scores from the pre-test (M=85, SD=11) to the post-test (M=97.5, SD=9). The study concluded that growth mindset training effectively enhances students' psychological well-being. This training encourages students to believe in change, fosters perseverance and resilience in facing challenges or problems, and serves as a factor in discovering life's meaning. The study contributes to the scientific literature on the effectiveness of growth mindset training in improving students' psychological well-being. It provides empirical evidence that a growth mindset can be a strategic approach to supporting student's mental and emotional development.

Abstract

Victims of sexual harassment often experience deep trauma, such as feelings of shame, fear, anger, and loss of self-worth. Intervention using Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) aims to enhance resilience in victims of sexual harassment and reduce the trauma symptoms they endure. The subject chosen for this study is a female college student who has been a victim of sexual harassment and met the study criteria. This research was designed using a single-case study approach with an A-B-A model. Using the Adolescent Resilience Scale, the participant showed a reduction of (d = 5.7); and using the PTSD Checklist-5 (PCL-5), the participant showed a reduction of (d = 4.87). These results indicate that resilience scores increased, and PTSD scores decreased from the baseline phase (A1) to the follow-up baseline phase (A2) using NET. The findings demonstrate that the NET approach is highly beneficial and necessary for counselors and school guidance teachers to help victims reduce PTSD symptoms and enhance resilience.

Abstract

Dating violence is a phenomenon that can have serious consequences. Individuals who experience dating violence often face psychological challenges, including depression, anxiety, emotional trauma, and difficulties in forming healthy relationships in the future. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) counseling in improving psychological well-being among victims of dating violence. The research utilized a single-case design with an A-B-A format. The participant in this study was an individual with a moderate level of dating violence and low psychological well-being. The intervention consisted of four EFT counseling sessions. Data were collected before, during, and after the intervention. Visual analysis of the results indicated a significant improvement in the participant's psychological well-being and a reduction in symptoms related to dating violence. These findings suggest that Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) counseling has the potential to be an effective intervention approach for victims of dating violence.

Abstract

Aggressive behavior is behavior that is manifested in the form of destroying objects or attacking other people verbally or non-verbally. This research tested the effectiveness of the Rational Emotive Behavior Education Model in reducing aggressive behavior in 36 class XI students at SMKN 2 Tasikmalaya. The selected students had high levels of aggressive behavior based on the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ) scale. The experimental study with Time Series Design was conducted for 5 weeks, with one REBE intervention session per week for 40-60 minutes. The results showed a significant decrease in overall aggressive behavior scores from pre-intervention (M = 104.35) to post-intervention (M = 84.94). A significant decrease was also observed in the scores of each dimension of aggressive behavior, namely physical (29.93 to 24.42), verbal (17.68 to 14.24), anger (25.94 to 21.25), and hostility (30.49 to 24.64). These results indicate that REBE is effective in reducing aggressive behavior in students, helping them to think rationally, reducing emotional disturbances, increasing self-understanding, developing more adaptive coping strategies, and improving self-concept and sense of responsibility.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the ego state counseling model in increasing gender awareness in gay adolescents, focusing on aspects of masculinity, femininity, and gender neutrality. This study used a single case study design with an ABA approach. The subject of the study was a 12th grade high school student in Tasikmalaya who was identified as part of the LGBT group and showed feminine behavior. The ego state counseling intervention was carried out for 5 sessions, with a duration of 45-60 minutes per session. The measuring instruments used were the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) to measure gender awareness and the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF) to measure the dimensions of mental well-being. The results showed that the ego state counseling intervention was effective in increasing gender awareness in the subjects. There was a significant increase in the masculine score (d = 1.84) and a significant decrease in the feminine score (d = 3.55). The dimensions of mental well-being also showed a significant increase, especially in social well-being (d = 2.45). This study contributes to guidance and counseling services by demonstrating the potential of ego state counseling as an effective intervention to increase gender awareness and mental health in gay adolescents. These findings may assist counselors in developing more specific and targeted intervention strategies to help gay adolescent construct healthier gender identities and achieve better mental well-being.

Abstract

The Cianjur earthquake on November 21, 2022, caused severe psychological impacts, particularly among adolescents who experienced significant loss or direct exposure to the disaster. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD), and to examine their respective effects on the mental health of adolescent disaster survivors. The research employed a descriptive and correlational quantitative design using a survey approach. A total of 551 adolescents aged 13–17 were selected through purposive sampling based on their exposure to the disaster’s impact. Three instruments were used to collect data: the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) to assess post-disaster trauma symptoms; the PGD-13-R to measure prolonged grief severity; and the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF) to evaluate emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression. Results showed that 18.5% of respondents met the criteria for PTSD and 6.9% for PGD. Regression analysis indicated that PTSD had a significant negative impact on mental health (β = –0.250; p < 0.001), while PGD was not a significant predictor (β = 0.046; p = 0.312). These findings suggest that post-disaster trauma contributes more substantially to mental health deterioration than prolonged grief. Therefore, evidence-based interventions such as Ego State Therapy are recommended to address PTSD symptoms effectively among adolescents affected by the earthquake.

Abstract

Addiction counseling training is a strategic effort to improve the professional competence of Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers in dealing with increasingly complex addiction problems among students. This activity not only strengthens conceptual understanding of addictive behavior, but also equips teachers with practical skills to provide effective and evidence-based interventions. One of the approaches introduced in this training is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), an energy-based psychological technique that has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and compulsive drives that often underlie addictive behavior. The results of the training showed that BK teachers gained significant improvements in their knowledge and intervention skills, and were able to apply EFT adaptively in counseling services in schools. These findings emphasize the importance of ongoing professional development that not only focuses on cognitive aspects, but also includes practical approaches that are relevant to the psychosocial needs of students. Thus, this training contributes directly to improving the quality of guidance and counseling services in schools.

This is illustrated by evaluating aspects of anticipating the future, enjoying present experiences, reminiscing about positive experiences in the past. Literature review revealed that the factor of being unable to be grateful and adversity intelligence has an influence on savoring. Adversity intelligence is defined as an individual's ability to face problems and continue to struggle when experiencing difficulties in his life by controlling problems, understanding problems, limiting problems to aspects of life, and considering the problems at hand to be temporary. So that savoring can increase adversity intelligence in addition to increasing happiness in a person. Because with the savoring in a person, the adversity intelligence will increase. The study used a correlational research design with a sample size of 180 students. Data were collected using simple random sampling technique. Instrument using Savoring Beliefs Inventory (SBI) and Adversity Intelligence Scale. The data analysis technique used the Pearson Product Moment (PPM) correlation method to determine the relationship between savoring and adversity intelligence among students. The relationship between savoring and adversity intelligence was found to be positively correlated. All dimensions of savoring and adversity intelligence were found to be positively correlated. Based on the research results, the more students have high savoring, the higher their adversity intelligence.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the general overview of the quality of life among 12th-grade students at SMAN 4 Tasikmalaya exhibiting self-harm symptoms. Employing a quantitative method with a descriptive design, the study involved 287 participants. Two instruments were utilized: the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory (DSHI), developed by Gratz (2001), consisting of 17 items measuring the frequency, severity, duration, and types of self-harm behavior; and the Adolescent Quality of Life Inventory (AQoLI), adapted from an instrument created by Ependi (2022). This latter instrument measures adolescent quality of life through 26 items across three dimensions: personal growth, social functioning, and self-functioning. The findings reveal that 49% of the students (142 individuals) had engaged in at least one form of self-harm. The quality of life among students with self-harm symptoms was categorized as very high (11%), high (58%), average (30%), and low (1%). This study concludes that self-harm symptoms among 12th-grade students at SMAN 4 Tasikmalaya are generally mild. However, attention is needed through counseling and guidance services to provide interventions that support emotional regulation and strengthen aspects of life, serving as essential means to help students build healthy coping mechanisms and enhance their well-being.
