Abstract

The research aimed to examine and explore more deeply how the development of Kedungcangkring Batik as a form of local wisdom in Sidoarjo Regency. In addition, the batik business that has been running from time to time since 1940 to 2024 is the subject of discussion in the research. The role of Batik Kedungcangkring and its relevance to the world of education, especially history education is also the purpose of the research. This research is classified as qualitative research using the historical approach method with four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The research also combines literature review and field research. The results show that Kedungcangkring batik business developed into a business that is able to adapt through various times through a combination of strategies such as product diversification, motif and color innovation, utilization of digital technology, empowerment of local communities and collaboration with the government and external parties. Batik Kedungcangkring also contributes to the world of education as a source of local history, raising awareness of history and cultural identity, becoming an interactive learning medium, and strengthening local-based entrepreneurship education. Various challenges and opportunities in maintaining the business also color the dynamics of the development of Batik Kedungcangkring Sidoarjo. In addition, Batik Kedungcangkring not only focuses on the development of its business but also develops the socio-cultural aspects of the surrounding community through batik training and school construction.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the impact of storytelling activities utilizing hand puppets on the reading abilities of 1 grade students at SDN Pucang 2 Sidoarjo. The research employs a quantitative methodology, specifically a nonequivalent control group design. The subjects of this investigation are students from classes 1-A and 1-C at SDN Pucang 2, with the experimental are students from class (1- A) comprising 20 students and the control class (1-C) also consisting of 20 students. Media utilization was validates by two expert: a lecturer specialized in media and a material expert, who is the homeroom teacher. Data collection involved validation questionnaires, as well as pretests and posttests. The normality and homogeneity tests yailded values of ≤ 0.05, indicating both normality and homogenity. The simple linear regression analysis produced an f- count of 85.677 with a significance level of 0.000, which is less than or equal to 0.05, thus confirming the significance of the findings. In hypothesis testing, a significance value of ≤ 0.05 led to the rejection of H0, establishing that the use of hand puppet media positively influences reading skills. Student engagement averaged a score of 79.64, categorizing it as good. The findings of this study demonstrate the effect of hand puppet media on the reading skills of students in classes 1-A and 1-C.

Abstract

The problem identified in this study is that the teacher still used a lecture and question answer method that is one-way in nature. This approach resulted in low student participation, limited interaction, and shallow conceptual understanding. The study employed an experimental research design with an experimental group taught using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model and a control group that received conventional direct instruction. The findings showed that the control group’s average pretest score was 30.4%, increasing to 62% in the posttest. Meanwhile, the experimental group’s average pretest score of 30.8% rose to 79.2%. Compared to the control group, the experimental group achieved significantly higher gains. Students’ critical thinking skills in the two groups differed markedly after treatment. The Mann Whitney test yielded a significance value of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference. Furthermore, the critical thinking activity questionnaire showed an actual score of 704 out of 1,000, or 70.4% achievement, placing students in the good category of critical thinking ability. Overall, the TGT model had a significant positive impact on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills.
