Abstract

Previous studies assessed that the Korean Wave, including the music group Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS), had campaigned for a different side of masculinity. BTS, through their music, seems to carry the concept of a "female-friendly model of masculinity". This feminine masculine identity is attached to BTS members and creates a typical stereotype of Asian men in the United States. This study aims to determine the representation of masculinity displayed by the boy group BTS in their video clips from 2013 to 2021 and observe at least 33 video clips. The researcher observed the symbol representation in the video clip with a Critical Discourse Analysis from Norman Fairclough and then conducted a thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. The results showed a change in the representation of masculinity throughout their careers. This change in representation is also a form of compromise and negotiation between BTS as artists and the music industry's demands at an international level

Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing amount of waste caused by high levels of public consumption, limited waste management facilities, and low environmental awareness. Lyfe With Less, an eco-friendly community, utilizes the function of Public Relations to deliver information and raise public awareness. This study aims to (1) identify the #SalingSilang campaign message conducted by Lyfe With Less, (2) examine the attitudes of Instagram followers of @lyfewithless toward the campaign, and (3) measure the influence of the #SalingSilang Public Relations campaign message on followers’ attitudes. The research applies the Campaign Message Design Theory, which includes message content, structure, and framing, as well as the Attitude Component Theory, which covers cognitive, affective, and conative aspects. A quantitative approach was used with a survey method by distributing questionnaires to 81 respondents selected randomly through probability sampling. The results show that the #SalingSilang campaign message received positive responses and had a significant and strong influence on followers’ attitudes. Within the Public Relations campaign message, the key message was found to be the most influential factor in the message content dimension, while in followers’ attitudes, the conative component showed the greatest change, particularly in reducing overconsumption and encouraging the optimal use of products.

Abstract

In 2023, Indonesia faced a severe climate and environmental crisis. Issues such as the waste crisis, air pollution, and natural disasters called for social movements. Digital activism on social media emerged as a powerful tool to drive change. On its 111th anniversary, Muhammadiyah raised the theme "Ikhtiar Menyelamatkan Semesta", utilizing social media to raise awareness and encourage the public to care for the environment. The aim of this research is to analyze the social media network on X/Twitter through the hashtag #Milad111Muhammadiyah as a form of digital activism by Muhammadiyah netizens in voicing concerns over the climate and environmental crisis. This research uses a descriptive qualitative analysis of conversations related to the theme "Ikhtiar Menyelamatkan Semesta," focusing on social media data from X/Twitter during the period of November 16-22, 2023, with the keyword #Milad111Muhammadiyah. The research concept uses the theories of The Network Society and Opinion Leader. The results show a close-knit network pattern within the Social Media Network, which generated high enthusiasm and solidarity among netizens, especially in the Muhammadiyah cluster. This movement formed a large network of accounts from Muhammadiyah members, alternative media, Muhammadiyah's social enterprises, and Muhammadiyah's autonomous organizations. The Muhammadiyah anniversary was also marked by other popular hashtags, such as #Muhammadiyah (1149 tweets), #IkhtiarMenyelamatkanSemesta (796 tweets), and #MiladMuhammadiyah (465 tweets). This research highlights the strong solidarity of Muhammadiyah netizens through social media activism, particularly regarding the environmental and climate crisis, as well as the important role of opinion leaders in digital campaign movements.

Abstract

Increasing competition among private schools requires effective marketing communication to strengthen institutional brand awareness. This community service program aimed to assist SMA Perjuangan Terpadu Depok in developing marketing communication based on FAST values (Siddiq, Amanah, Fathanah, and Tabligh) through the production of a Sharia advertising video. A participatory mentoring approach was implemented through four stages: needs assessment, communication strategy development, advertising production, and evaluation. The program resulted in a FAST based marketing communication mentoring model that integrated professional advertising practices with Islamic values. In addition to producing a Sharia advertising video, the program enhanced the school's understanding of communication planning, creative brief development, media planning, and digital promotion. Participants expressed positive responses and intended to use the video as a branding medium. The mentoring model offers a practical reference for Islamic educational institutions in developing ethical and sustainable marketing communication.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the high number of non-procedural Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) departures, which reached 95% in 2024, triggering labor exploitation and human trafficking. This phenomenon stems from low procedural literacy and heavy broker influence in rural areas. This study analyzes the Digital Public Relations strategy of the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) in promoting procedural migration. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, this study utilizes a model-generation approach through open, axial, and selective coding. The findings formulate a new model called the Integrated Digital PR Model, operating through four stages: Intelligence (data/sentiment analysis), Content Hub (website validation center), Distribution and Engagement (message localization), and Outcome (creating a “digital shield”). Through the PESO framework, P2MI Public Relations synergizes the official website, Call Center services, and 60 regional work unit (BP3MI) social media accounts. The novelty of this research demonstrates that content distribution based on human-interest storytelling by regional accounts effectively dominates the digital space and counters brokers’ hoaxes. Ultimately, this strategic communication approach successfully rebuilds public trust in the state’s official migration procedures, offering a robust framework for institutional public relations.
