Abstract

This article examines the evolution of the concept of femininity in East Asian makeup culture by tracing changes in style, function, and social meaning from traditional periods to the modern era. The study focuses on makeup practices in China, Japan, and Korea, which possess distinct cultural and historical backgrounds yet similarly demonstrate dynamic developments of femininity through visual expression. The research employs a literature review using a qualitative approach, complemented by an analysis of beauty trends emerging in each country. The findings indicate that facial makeup functions not merely as an aesthetic practice but also as a medium for representing personal identity, social status, gender roles, and prevailing cultural values within society. The transformation of makeup practices is influenced by various factors, including local traditional heritage, processes of modernization, changes in women’s roles, and globalization, which introduces new beauty standards. Nevertheless, traditional elements continue to be preserved and adapted, forming distinctive regional characteristics. Overall, this study emphasizes that the concept of femininity in East Asian makeup culture is dynamic and contextual, continually adapting to social change while remaining deeply rooted in longstanding cultural values.

Abstract

The development of postmodern culture has had a major influence on the way teenagers express their identity through clothing. Dress style is no longer just a matter of aesthetics, but has also become a symbol of freedom of expression that often clashes with family norms that uphold moral, religious, and cultural values. This study aims to understand the dynamics of fashion ethics negotiation between teenagers and parents in the postmodern era through an analysis of social, cultural, and family communication perspectives. The study uses a qualitative method with a literature review approach of 15 national journals discussing the role of parents, freedom of expression, fashion ethics, and the influence of global culture on teenagers. The results show that value negotiation occurs through open communication between parents and children, where both parties try to adjust moral values to the needs of self-actualization. Parents act as moral guides, while adolescents seek to obtain freedom that is still in line with social norms. This study contributes to the strengthening of character education, family communication patterns, and strategies for instilling ethical dress values amid the challenges of modern culture.

Abstract

The increasing use of facial cosmetics among adolescents and young adults is not always accompanied by adequate cosmetic literacy, potentially leading to skin health problems. Many consumers choose products based on trends without understanding their skin type, ingredients, and safety aspects, which can lead to skin barrier damage, irritation, and long-term dermatological disorders. This study aims to analyze the influence of cosmetic choices on facial skin health through a literature review. The method used was a qualitative literature study with a purposive sampling technique of scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025 that were relevant to the behavior of adolescents and young adults and the impact of cosmetic ingredients on the skin. Data were analyzed using content analysis to identify the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and cosmetic choices. The results show that cosmetic knowledge tends to be high, but is not always followed by appropriate selection behavior, with varying correlation strengths. These findings confirm that cosmetic literacy contributes to the tendency to choose more appropriate products, but is not the sole determining factor. Therefore, education is needed that emphasizes cognitive aspects while fostering critical attitudes in choosing cosmetics safely and responsibly.
