Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the presuppositions of Neneng Garut's utterances through pragmatic studies. This is a qualitative study with content analysis method because this study prioritizes the content approach of the speech. The data source of this research is Neneng Garut's utterances which contains presuppositions and implicature in Stand Up Comedy Academy (SUCA 3). Data provision of this analysis is done by using simak method that is applied through note-taking techniques. The results of this study indicate that Neneng Garut would like to convey that at present more and more cases of corruption have occurred and are increasingly difficult to stop it. This is said through the puncline and if we ask Indonesia for corruption free, it is very difficult, especially when we ask Radit to marry, it is more difficult. In addition, in this study also found some presuppositions in her utterances such as, presuppositions about the difficulty and limited transportation in remote region of Garut, the lack of entertainment, trust in mysticism that is still very thick, and a way of thinking in society. In addition, through pragmatic, presupposition, and understanding the implicit meanings, the writer hopes that the results of this paper will be able to contribute ideas to the reading community about the importance of hearing and understanding the speech of the partners in a society that has lately faded.

Abstract

Abstract. The study purpose was to increase English extensive reading activities using google classroom in online learning process, especially in pandemic Covid-19 situation. This research is action research which used exploratory mixed method using Elliot model. Process of collecting data used observation, interview, diary note, and test. The technique of analysis data was reduction, presentation, and taking conclusion. The research finding show that google classroom has given significant impact on English extensive reading in the classroom. Some students think that it is easy to delivery assignment and correction of the task. They can do it out of class. It can be seen from the average score from reading test in pretest is 53 and posttest is 87. Therefore, integrating digital literacy with the reading learning is a big challenge for the learning and teaching process. Keywords: Extensive Reading, Google Classroom, Online Class, Covid-19

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to know the used of Code-Switching in 50 First Date movie. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The final results indicate the three types of code-switching are used in 50 first dates movie, namely tag switching 47.8%, intra-sentential 39.1%, and inter-sentential 13.2%. The most used type is tag switching, it shows that switching done by the character of the movie, Ula, are tag and exclamation. The most reason Ula switches the language is that he wants to change the hearers' perception. They are two reasons for code-switching; metaphorical code-switching 69.6% and situational code-switching 30.4%.  The function of switching the code is mostly to involve the hearer directly into the conversation. They are five functions of code-switching referential 8.7%, directive 39.1, expressive 34.8%, phatic 13.1%, and metalinguistic 4.3%.

Abstract

The aims of this analysis is to examine presuppositions on dialogue about honesty through pragmatic studies. This is a qualitative study with content analysis method because this research prioritizes the content approach of dialogue in the novel. The data source of this analysis is a dialogues that contain presuppositions and imply honesty in the novel Asal Kau Bahagia by Bernard Batubara. Data provision of this analysis is done by using simak method that is applied through note-taking techniques. The results of this study indicate that 26 data containing presuppositions consisting of 9 data included in factive presuppositions, 3 lexical presuppositions data, 7 data as existantial presuppositions, 5 data as non-factual presuppositions, and 2 data are counterfactual presuppositions. In addition, the research also revealed that through several presupposition there was a message in each speech, the action would always be related to the value of honesty, but sometime it is really to be said. If it happens there is only prejudice and revenge exists. In addition, through this pragmatic, presupposition, and about honesty, the author also hopes that the results of this paper will be able to contribute ideas to the reading community about the importance of the value of honesty in friendship, romance, and in a society that has recently faded.

Abstract

The research objective is to improve reading comprehension skills through an extensive program of reading literary texts. It used a mixed method. Research participants are 5th-semester students who receive extensive reading (2) courses in the 2020-2021 academic year at Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika Jakarta as many as 70 students. There are two data used in this study, namely 1) qualitative data taken using a questionnaire. Qualitative data were analyzed using transcribed and encoded, organized, categorized, and taking concluding. 2) Quantitative data were taken from the pre-test and post-test. The test data were analyzed using a t-test. The results of the study show that overall an extensive reading program with literary texts has an impact on improving English reading comprehension. Students also have a positive perception of the extensive reading program because they can build interest in reading and reading habits

Abstract

AbstrakThis tendency draws interest to find politeness strategy in command. This paper is using dialog script of tukang ojek pengkolan (TOP) written by Sokat Rahman. In this analysis the writer uses speech act theory by Searl, pragmatic theory by Austin, and politeness strategy by Brown C. Levinson. Based on the analysisthe writer found  some commands which uttered by pilteness strategy off record and bald record. Some charecters in this serial comedy series Tukang Ojek Pengkolan preferred off record to bald record in their commands. By using this strategy, the characters uttered indirectly or vaguely to the hearer. In this strategy, the speaker tried to avoid the direct FTA, and it removes the characters from the potensial of being imposing. Keywords: Pragmatic, speech act, politeness strategy, Tukang Ojek Pengkolan (TOP) cpt.9

Abstract

Abstrak  - Penelitian ini membahas variasi leksikal di Kabupaten Kebumen pada tataran leksikon. Kabupaten Kebumen secara geografis terletak diantara Kabupaten Banyumas dengan dialek ngapak dan Kabupaten Purworejo dengan dialek bandek. Titik pengamatan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 5 desa yang merupakan daerah-daerah yang berada dekat dengan perbatasan Kabupaten Banyumas dan Kabupaten Purworejo yaitu Desa Rowokele, Desa Bumiagung, Desa Pejagoan, Desa Kutowinangun, Desa Tunggalroso. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode simak dan cakap. Data-data yang telah terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode padan dengan teknik hubung banding membedakan dan teknik hubung banding menyamakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan variasi leksikon di Kabupaten Kebumen. Variasi leksikon meliputi gejala onomasiologis dan semasiologis. Variasi leksikal dipengaruhi oleh letak geografis pada titik daerah pengamatan. Selain itu ditemukan juga ternyata leksikon-leksikon tersebut dalam penggunaanya disesuaikan dengan kapan, diamana, dan kepada siapa mereka bertutur, jadi hal ini juga cukup mempengaruhi satu varisai leksikal digunakan di wilayah yang berbeda. karena Kabupaten Kebumen cukup mendapat pengaruh kedua Kabupaten yaitu Banyumas dan Purworejo, jadi tuturan-tuturan yang digunakan terkadang saling bertukar dan dipahami oleh masing-masing penutur maupun mitra tuturnya. Hal ini menjadi saling melengkapi dan bervariasi pada leksikonnya.   Kata Kunci: variasi Leksikal, semasiologis, onomasiologis, Bahasa Jawa, Kabupaten Kebumen

Abstract

Isu pemindahan ibu kota sudah menjadi wacana dari beberapa pemerintahan sebelumnya. Namun, pada era kepemimpinan saat ini diumumkan secara resmi tentang niatan tersebut. Tepat sekitar Agustus lalu presiden mengumumkan secara resmi tentang pemindahan ibu kota dan sekaligus lokasi yang strategis untuk dijadikan ibu kota baru. Sebagai bentuk pro dan kontra muncul berbagai tanggapan dari masyarakat. Meme merupakan salah satu bentuk tanggapan yang paling sering muncul di dunia siber khususnya media sosial sebagai bentuk tanggapan atas kebijakan ini. Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus yang menggunakan meme dan tanggapan warganet sebagai data penelitian. Untuk memahami tanda dan makna serta tanggapan dari warganet melalui teori multimodal, semiotik pragmatik, kebebasan berekspresi, dan berpikir kritis. Melalui penelitian ini penulis ingin mengetahui bagaimana tanda, makna serta tanggapan warganet yang muncul dalam meme merupakan bentuk perkembangan berpikir kritis terhadap sebuah kebijakan pemerintah. Dalam kajian ini pengumuman resmi dari presiden tentang “pemindahan ibu kota” dimaknai sebagai tanda, sedangkan pemunculan berbagai meme terkait, dimaknai sebagai reaksi masyarakat untuk menunjukkan pro dan kontra atas keputusan tersebut. Melalui pemunculan meme, warganet mencoba untuk berekspresi, berpendapat, serta mengkritik terhadap kebijakan pemerintah tentang pemindahan ibu kota. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap dimensi sociokuultural dalam teori Critical Discourse Analsys (CDA oleh Norman Fairclough dari beberapa tagar yang menjadi trending topik di twitter Indonesia. Twitter menjadi ruang diskusi yang sangat ramai dengan berbagai percakapan terutama di masa pandemic yang mengharuskan masyarakat mengurangi interaksi secara langsung. Dalam penelitian ini, sample yang digunakan adalah 10 tagar dibidang sosial politik yang viral dan memicu diskursus panjang di masyarakat luas dan pemerintah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan secara umum, tagar di Indonesia ditinjau dari aspek sociocultural dapat dibagi menjadi 3 tujuan atau intepretasi. Pertama, tagar yang bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan kritik dan kekecewaan baik kepada pemerintah maupun lembaga lain yang tercermin dari tagar #thekingoflipservice, #MauKritikTapiTakutUUITE, dan #AllEnglandOpen2021UnFair. Kedua, tagar yang bertujuan untuk melalukan mobilisasi isu, wacana, dan kebijakan yang terefleksi dari tagar #beranijujurpecat, #TolakJilbabPaksa, #BTSMeal, tagar terkait untuk stay at home, dan dorongan untuk berpartisipasi melakukan vaksinasi. Ketiga, tagar yang bertujuan untuk menunjukkan solidaritas dan nasionalisme yang terafiliasi dari tagar #savepalestine dan #Indonesiasaysorryforthailand. Penelitian ini juga mengungkap bahwa masyarakat Indonesia sangat senang berdiskusi, menyatakan pendapat, dan melakukan kritik kepada pemeintah. Dari sisi ini tercermin tingkat partispasi warga dalam demokasi sudah cukup memuaskan meskipun masih banyak ruang untuk perbaikan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of YouTube as an electronic learning resource in English writing learning. An exploratory mixed method was used in this study. Research instruments included tests, observations and questionnaires. The participants in this study were all third-semester English majors at Bina Sarana Informatika University in Jakarta. The participants were 100 students that were taken randomly. The researcher collected the data from September until December 2021. The result of the English essay writing test was analyzed by using a t-test. The observation was be done during the learning process and the questionnaire used to get students' input about the effectiveness of YouTube as an e-resource.    The results of the study concluded that YouTube as an e-resource has a positive impact on the ability to write English essays. The test results before and after implementing YouTube as an e-resource were t-stat (8.76) t-table (2.022), which means Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. While the Pearson correlation was 0.732. Students also gave a positive view of the use of YouTube during essay writing activities. This can be seen in the average value which was dominated by strongly agreed answers. This study concluded that learning resources for writing should be presented as learning resources that involve audio-visual and interesting so that story ideas can be developed.
