Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to introduce and train Indonesian New Generation students (recipients of a scholarship from Bank Indonesia) at Mandalika University of Education, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara Province in processing organic waste into compost through fermentation with the help of effective microorganism (EM4) as a bioactivator. The stages of this service activity are: 1) introduction; 2) practice activities for the initial process of fermentation; and 3) follow-up activities (observation for 2 months). The 1 day activity is used to process organic waste in the form of dry and wet leaves, then chopped into smaller pieces so that it decomposes more quickly, then fermented using EM4 as a bioactivator (observations after 2 months). Compost fermentation takes at least 2 months to get better results, taking into account the factors that affect composting, including: C/N (Carbon/Nitrogen) ratio, aeration, porosity, humidity, temperature, acidity level (pH), nutrient content, hazardous material content, and composting time. Based on the results of the activity evaluation, it can be concluded that the objectives of this community service activity have been achieved as expected. This achievement can be seen from the ability of students to process organic waste into compost which is ready to be used as fertilizer for plants.

Abstract

Packaging waste for products or goods that are no longer used can still be recycled into goods that are useful and economically valuable. In general, inorganic waste is very difficult to decompose naturally. The problem of increasing waste volumes needs to be handled wisely so that environmental pollution can be avoided, especially inorganic waste in the form of plastic bottles. The state of society in handling waste, especially plastic bottles, is still very low. One way that can be done is by providing education and direct assistance to the public regarding techniques for managing inorganic waste, especially used bottles or other plastic containers into more useful products. Utilizing used bottles as a medium for hydroponic plants is an effective way to raise public interest and awareness about the importance of managing plastic bottle waste. This activity is also a means of learning and motivating the community about hydroponic business opportunities using plastic bottles. Apart from that, this can be a very productive alternative activity for society.

Abstract

Mastery of concepts in a field of science includes a combination of mastery of knowledge of the field of science being studied and dimensions of cognitive processes, including factual, conceptual and procedural knowledge. The importance of students' mastery of concepts related to the field of biology means that teachers must continue to train students to master biological concepts well. In general, social studies students have good knowledge in the field of social studies, but not necessarily good knowledge in the field of science, especially biology. The aim of this research is to reveal gender-based mastery of biology concepts of students majoring in social studies at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram using a project based learning model. The research method used quasi correlational involving 126 students, consisting of 45 male students and 81 female students. Data analysis used an independent sample t test at a significance level of 5%. The research results show that there is no significant difference between male and female students' mastery of concepts using the project based learning model. The average mastery of concepts for male students is 56.296, and the average mastery of concepts for female students is 57.510. The significance value (Sig. 2 tailed) is 0.618 > 0.05. The implication of this research is that the project based learning model does not provide a significant difference in students' mastery of concepts based on gender, or the project based learning model can be said to have the same effect in increasing students' mastery of biology concepts, both for male and female students.

Abstract

Gastropods have an important ecological role in coastal ecosystems, such as decomposing organic matter, playing an important role in the food chain and with the characteristics of the habitat at the bottom of the substrate, this organism is used as a bioindicator to assess the quality of the marine environment. The importance of initial documentation of the types of marine biota in an area needs to be done, one of which is on Amor-amor Beach where this area is the center of the development of aquaculture activities in the North Lombok area. This study aims to identify the types of gastropods in the intertidal zone of Amor-Amor Beach, North Lombok Regency. This type of research is descriptive exploratory. The study was conducted in July - September 2024. Sampling by purposive sampling consisted of three stations, namely; station 1 (waters facing the Tambak inlet), station 2 (waters in the outlet area) and station 3 (waters far from the tambak area). The sampling used a 1x1 m transect, species attached to rocks were taken directly, while species that burrowed or were in the sand substrate were taken by placing a PVC pipe frame with a sieve. Species of unknown type were put into a sample bottle given a 70% alcohol solution, then identified using an identification book and several internet literature. The results of this study found 23 species of gastropods from 13 families, namely the Neritidae family (4 species), the Muricidae family (2 species), the Conidae family (5 species), the Nassaridae family (4 species), the Strombidae family (2 species) and 1 species for each of the Collumbelidae, Olividae, Littorinidae, Cypraeidae, Ranelidae, Nacelidae, Turbinidae, and Trochidae families. This finding is important as a basis for information for biodiversity conservation efforts and as an ecological indicator in coastal environmental biomonitoring activities.

Abstract

This study compared the listening and intensive reading abilities of early semester students, Mandalika University of Education (n=43) through a descriptive phenomenological approach. The research instruments consisted of the video "AI Domination War" (13 minutes 14 seconds) for listening, and the literary text "Permenungan dan Pengapungan" for intensive reading. The results showed a significant disparity between the two abilities. The average score for listening (93) was higher than reading (73). As many as 93.02% of the sample (40 people) reached the high category in listening, while in intensive reading only 53.49% (23 people) were included in the high category. Further analysis revealed that students were able to process simple information from both media, the main difficulty arose in processing complex texts, especially with non-linear narrative structures, and as many as 30.23% of respondents (13 people) were in the low category for intensive reading. These findings were supported by triangulation analysis through observation, assignment documents, and teaching materials. The study concluded that audiovisual listening abilities were more dominant than text literacy, and complex literary texts were the main challenge for students. The implications of the study emphasize the importance of developing a learning model that balances listening and reading competencies, especially in dealing with literary and structurally complex texts in an academic environment. This finding is relevant to the development of literacy curricula in Higher Education in the digital era.
