Abstract

Temuan ini memberikan alternatif alami yang dapat digunakan untuk menjaga kesehatan mulut pada pengguna gigi tiruan.KATA KUNCI: Antibakteri, biji buah naga merah (Hylocereus costaricensis), streptococcus sanguinis, resin akrilik polimerisasi panasAntibacterial Effectiveness Test of Red Dragon Fruit Seed Extract (Hylocereus costaricensis) in Inhibiting the Growth of Streptococcus sanguinis on Acrylic Resin PlatesABSTRACTIntroduction: Tooth loss is a significant problem in oral health because it can affect masticatory function, phonation, aesthetics, and self-confidence. One solution to overcome tooth loss is the use of dentures with a heat-polymerized acrylic resin base. The rough surface of acrylic resin can cause plaque buildup, making it easier for Streptococcus sanguinis bacteria to adhere to the denture base. This can be prevented by cleaning dentures with sodium hypochlorite, but this material has disadvantages in acrylic resin. One natural ingredient that can be used as a denture cleaner is red dragon fruit seeds (Hylocereus costaricensis) which contain antibacterial compounds, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins. Methods: The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of dragon fruit seed extract on the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis on acrylic resin plates. This type of research used a laboratory experimental method using a Post Test Control Group Design. The sample in the study was a block-shaped plate with dimensions of 10 x 10 x 1 mm. The sample size was 5 treatment groups with concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%, positive control using 0.5% sodium hypochlorite and negative control using distilled water which was repeated 5 times, so that the number of samples became 25 treatments using the One way ANOVA test. Results: Red dragon fruit seed extract (Hylocereus costaricensis), effective in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis. A concentration of 5% produced the lowest number of bacterial growth compared to other concentrations. Conclusion: From the results of this study, there is an antibacterial effectiveness of red dragon fruit seed extract in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis on acrylic resin plates and with the best extract at a concentration of 5%. This finding provides a natural alternative that can be used to maintain oral health in denture users..KEY WORDS: Antibacterial, Red dragon fruit seed (Hylocereus costaricensis), Streptococcus sanguinis, Hot polymerization acrylic

Abstract

Foster home is fostering institution that has a boarding system. Foster children who live in crowded environments with poor sanitation and low personal hygiene are risk factors that can facilitate the emergence of various health problems including infectious diseases. The results of preliminary survey at the YABNI Padang Foster Home show the fact that there are several health problems experienced by foster children, one of which frequently appears is skin disease. According to the management, this occurs due to the low awareness of foster children in implementing healthy behavior both personally and in maintaining a clean environment. The large number of children in foster care with a relatively small number of managers means that health-related guidance and monitoring efforts do not run optimally. The local health center also does not carry out routine visits. The solution offered to overcome this problem is to provide education about the importance of implementing personal hygiene and maintaining environmental sanitation. This education is important to provide to increase understanding and awareness of foster children in order to prevent and minimize the emergence of health problems in the future.

Abstract

According to Riskesdas 2018, the prevalence of people experiencing dental and oral diseases in Indonesia has increased sharply from 23.2% in 2007 to 57.6% in 2018. The problem found at the YABNI Padang Orphanage was that many children complain of toothache, there have been no dental and oral examinations for children. The solution offered by the head of the proposing team was to carry out early detection of disease through dental and oral health screening for children at the YABNI Padang Orphanage. It was hoped that promotive and preventive efforts will be achieved against dental and oral health risks for children at the YABNI Padang Orphanage by implementing dental and oral health screening for children as well as educating administrators and children about how to care for children's teeth and mouth. Apart from that, the planned output target in this community service was research articles in national service journals. From the results of this community service, it was found that early detection of dental and oral cases/diseases, the most common being caries/cavities, was 101 cases, with 62 cases in girls and 39 cases in boys. Managers should provide ongoing education to foster children so that they remained aware of the importance of dental and oral health.
