Abstract

Background: Inflammation is a natural body response, but when it reaches the systemic chronic inflammation stage, it can cause more dangerous complications. Many natural ingredients have been developed as anti-inflammatory agents. One of them is sirih bumi (Peperomia pellucida [L.] Kunth). Objective: This study aims to summarize and examine the research results related to the anti-inflammatory activity of the sirih bumi. Methods: Research articles were collected from various online databases such as Google Scholar, Google, Medline, Pubmed, and Science Direct. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to obtain original research articles relevant to the desired topic, published in the last ten years, the full text was accessible, and the research methods and results were well explained and valid. Results: In total, only six articles are eligible to be discussed. The research was conducted in Indonesia, Nigeria, and Malaysia. In vitro and in vivo methods with various models and parameters were used to test the anti-inflammatory activity. All parts of the plant are proven to have anti-inflammatory effects that can be presented in extracts or herbal teas. The activity of sirih bumi is determined by the dose or concentration of administration, processing process, and harvest time. Abstract

Triketuka, an herb with multiple therapeutic activities, is featured in Balinese medicinal texts. This herb is composed of Massoia aromatic Becc. (masoyi), Acorus calamus L. (dringo), and Allium sativum L. (garlic). The antibacterial activity of these ingredients against bacteria causing rhinosinusitis has not been fully evaluated. Hence, this study seeks to determine the potential of these three components, especially with regards to their effectiveness against rhinosinusitis. In this research, an in vitro antibacterial test was conducted against Streptococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The phytochemical profile of each plant was determined using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration value was determined by carrying out the antibacterial test via the microdilution method. The detected compounds were analyzed for their contributions through the prediction of activity spectra for biologically active substances (PASS) online and Antibac-Pred. As a result of the in vitro antibacterial test, the samples were found to have MIC > 4096 ppm against all bacteria except Massoia aromatic and Acorus calamus against Staphylococcus aureus in MIC 4096 ppm each. This discovery was further verified through PASS online and Antibac-Pred. The studies indicate that certain compounds found in the samples exhibit antibacterial activity, albeit with low efficacy against the tested bacteria. In conclusion, the plants exhibit low antibacterial potential against bacteria that cause rhinosinusitis. Further research on the combination of the three plants is required to enhance their antibacterial efficiency.

Abstract

Occupational health is very much needed by stakeholders because of the prevalence of infectious diseases due to the spread of globalization. Stakeholders are very vulnerable to disease transmission because they are face to face and even come into contact with the community. In addition, stakeholders need an understanding of religious knowledge because in general stakeholders carry out professions because of heredity so that they need to be given guidance so that they have an understanding of the function, meaning of the profession and ritual ceremonies. Community service carried out by the health yoga study program aims to provide guidance and training to stakeholders in Denpasar City both from the social, religious and health aspects so that stakeholders can follow modernity standards, especially in the health sector without losing the sanctity and meaning of religious ceremonies or yadnya. The implementation methods for this activity are method I (presentation), method II (demonstration), method III (demonstrations and distribution of materials/tools) and method IV (demonstration). The results of the evaluation at the end of this activity, there was a significant increase in knowledge of the participants with the average posttest score above 90 points. In general, the implementation of this service was well received by the participants and went smoothly. Obstacles such as the schedule of activities that clash with holy holidays and the limited space for the implementation can be overcome through good cooperation from all parties. During the service, it was found that the enthusiasm of the participants to deepen the teachings of Hinduism and knowledge related to health was very high.

Abstract

Currently, Indonesia is not only bearing the burden of Communicable Diseases (PM) but also the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (PTM). One of the strategies in the guidelines for non-communicable diseases management by the Prevention and Control Directorate of Non-Communicable Diseases of the Republic of Indonesia Health Ministry in 2019 is to carry out promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative actions as a whole , one of which is with the CERDIK principle. CERDIK behavior is a necessary behavior to prevent various kinds of non-communicable diseases. The behavior in question is regular health checks, getting rid of cigarette smoke, diligent physical activity/exercise, and a healthy and balanced diet. Therefore, Lecturers in the Yoga and Health Study Program at I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar State Hindu University carried out community service activities by providing CERDIK behavior education with the target of activities for students at the Bali Kresna Medika Health Vocational High School (SMK). the number of participants were 32 people. The implementation method for this activity was to provide CERDIK material, yoga exercises, and physical measurements which were carried out in 5 meetings. In general, the implementation of activities ran smoothly. The success of the activity is was measured by a questionnaire. The results showed that there was an increase in participants' knowledge regarding CERDIK, namely from the category of knowledge that was quite good to very good. In the future, it is hoped that this activity can be carried out with broader targets and scope.

Abstract

Puskesmas as a health facility that is easily accessible to the community, of course, is a forum in promoting, especially introducing family medicinal plants (TOGA) that have been used for generations as an alternative treatment. Public understanding related to Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) through the health center is still very minimal, therefore this community service is carried out on the basis of these problems through structuring and inventorying plants with medicinal properties at the UPTD Puskesmas III Health Office of the South Denpasar District Health Office. This community service team consists of 3 people, namely 1 lecturer and 2 students. The method used in this service includes 3 stages, namely: the preparation stage, starting with the submission of applications and discussions regarding the schedule and accompanied by conducting a survey of the location of the toga planting. Furthermore, the implementation stage begins with the cleaning of the planting area, planting new types of medicinal plants, plant care, making toga nameplates, and ending with the submission and installation of toga nameplates. there are 49 nameplates of medicinal plants along with scientific names and efficacy installed. The last stage is the preparation of a report that contains details about this community service activity.

Abstract

Sirih bumi (Peperomia pellucida [L.] Kunth.) is a medicinal herb. Anti-inflammatory activities are reported. These plant extracts have been shown to reduce inflammation in many studies, but it is unknown which extract works best. The objectives if this study were determine the extract that has the best anti-inflammatory activity from sirih bumi. The activity was assessed from the impact of stabilising red blood cell membranes in vitro. The research was then continued with a literature study on the chemical compounds containing the best extracts. To determine the prediction of the compound responsible for its activity and potency, several in silico tests were carried out, such as PASS online, Pre-ADMET online, and Protox II. The test results showed that the ethyl acetate extract at 200 g/mL concentration showed similar activity to aspirin at the same concentration. The activity of this extract increased with increasing concentration of the extract. Six compounds were reported to be isolated from this type of extract. Dillapiol and its derivative 6-allyl-5-methoxy-1,3-benzodioxol-4-ol are predicted to be compounds that have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the membrane permeability mechanism of ethyl acetate extract. Ethyl acetate extract showed the best anti-inflammatory activity among the other type of extract from sirih bumi. Ethyl acetate extract is a type of extract with the best anti-inflammatory activity from sirih bumi.

Abstract

Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) has been recognised as one of Indonesia’s leading medicinal plants due to its numerous health benefits, particularly in supporting liver function, boosting the immune system, and improving digestion. However, its utilisation in primary healthcare services remains limited due to a lack of knowledge among healthcare professionals regarding its benefits and active compounds, as well as proper cultivation and processing methods. This community service programme aimed to enhance the literacy and practical skills of healthcare personnel at UPTD Puskesmas I Denpasar Utara through educational sessions and hands-on training in temulawak cultivation and simplisia processing. The methodology involved pre-test and post-test assessments to measure participants' knowledge improvement. The evaluation results showed a significant increase, with 75% of participants achieving a perfect score after the training. Additionally, participants’ expectations regarding the benefits of the programme rose from 86.4% to 90%, while satisfaction with the training materials reached 91.36%. These findings indicate that the training effectively improved participants' knowledge and skills. Future programmes should focus on developing more interactive educational modules and conducting advanced practical sessions to ensure the sustainable application of acquired knowledge in primary healthcare services.
