Abstract

Abstract

The development of ecotourism in Siakin Village faces challenges in optimizing its natural and cultural potential, particularly organic garlic farming practices,. This community service project aims to enhance the appeal of ecotourism in Siakin Village through the creation and socialization of visual promotional media in the form of flyers. The method employed is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation studies, supported by counseling on organic garlic cultivation as high-quality medicinal raw material,,. The results indicate that flyers are effective as both promotional instruments and educational media regarding environmental sustainability values for both the community and tourists,. Despite constraints in design skills and budget limitations, strategic solutions such as design training for the community and the integration of physical and digital distribution were able to overcome these obstacles,,. Through this collaborative approach, visual media has successfully strengthened Siakin Village's image as a sustainable ecotourism destination, which in turn is expected to increase tourist visits and support the long-term economic empowerment of the local community.

Abstract

Triketuka, an herb with multiple therapeutic activities, is featured in Balinese medicinal texts. This herb is composed of Massoia aromatic Becc. (masoyi), Acorus calamus L. (dringo), and Allium sativum L. (garlic). The antibacterial activity of these ingredients against bacteria causing rhinosinusitis has not been fully evaluated. Hence, this study seeks to determine the potential of these three components, especially with regards to their effectiveness against rhinosinusitis. In this research, an in vitro antibacterial test was conducted against Streptococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The phytochemical profile of each plant was determined using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration value was determined by carrying out the antibacterial test via the microdilution method. The detected compounds were analyzed for their contributions through the prediction of activity spectra for biologically active substances (PASS) online and Antibac-Pred. As a result of the in vitro antibacterial test, the samples were found to have MIC > 4096 ppm against all bacteria except Massoia aromatic and Acorus calamus against Staphylococcus aureus in MIC 4096 ppm each. This discovery was further verified through PASS online and Antibac-Pred. The studies indicate that certain compounds found in the samples exhibit antibacterial activity, albeit with low efficacy against the tested bacteria. In conclusion, the plants exhibit low antibacterial potential against bacteria that cause rhinosinusitis. Further research on the combination of the three plants is required to enhance their antibacterial efficiency.

Abstract

Diarrhoea is a prevalent condition that may result in dehydration and severe complications if not managed. The Dayak Meratus community in Kamawakan Village, following Hindu Kaharingan customs, possesses a distinctive traditional healing technique called the Baharagu ceremony. This traditional rite combines herbal medication and spiritual purification as a comprehensive method for addressing diarrhoea and other ailments. This study seeks to delineate the execution of the Baharagu ritual, ascertain the taboos that patients are required to observe, and evaluate its effects on patient health. This study utilises a qualitative descriptive methodology through ethnographic techniques. Data collection was conducted via comprehensive interviews with balian (traditional healers), community leaders, and patients, alongside participatory observation and documentation. Data analysis was performed employing reduction, classification, and interpretation methodologies. The results demonstrate that the Baharagu ceremony comprises multiple phases, including preparation, ritual performance, and conclusion. The preparation phase entails the compilation of offerings, including ringgitan, traditional cakes, flowers, and musical instruments. Patients additionally adhere to particular dietary and behavioural limitations prior to the ritual. The essence of the ceremony transpires at night, during which the balian recites mantras, administers pelungsur (herbal medicine), and conducts a purification rite. Post-ceremony limitations, like remaining indoors and refraining from interaction with strangers, are essential for facilitating recuperation. The Baharagu ceremony has demonstrated efficacy in addressing diarrhoea among the community. This ceremony promotes social unity and strengthens traditional cultural values. This study concludes that the Baharagu ceremony is a significant cultural heritage that amalgamates conventional medicine with holistic therapy. The results provide a basis for the possible establishment of community-oriented healthcare initiatives.
