Abstract

The sea toll program is to facilitate and streamline the transportation of goods through sea transportation for logistics distribution needs in archipelagic areas that do not have good transportation. The sea toll program can provide benefits not only for price stability of basic commodities but also benefits to the regional economy. The study aims to analyze the impact of sea toll benefits on price disparities. Specifically, the research was conducted in the Tarempa area of the Sea Toll Route -Route T-3. The research used quantitative method with data analysis using the Wilcoxon method. The results of data analysis show that the sea toll program for the T3 route route shows that there is a price disparity in the need for basic goods and essential materials. Data analysis from the Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) value> 0.05, namely 0.06, so H0 is accepted, where H0 there is no difference between the price before the sea toll and after the sea toll. Research conclusions based on the price of staples according to the results of the Wilcoxon test there is no difference between before the sea highway and after the sea highway.

Abstract

Simulation-Based Learning (SBL) is a pivotal component in maritime education, offering realistic and immersive experiences for cadets. This research critically evaluates SBL's efficacy among 30 cadets undergoing vocational practice or internships, aligning with International Maritime Organization (IMO) - Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW). Through qualitative analysis, SBL was found to significantly enhance cadets' competency, decision-making skills, and confidence in handling maritime challenges. Challenges such as technical issues and fidelity discrepancies were noted, underscoring the need for ongoing improvement. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of aligning maritime education with international standards to ensure standardized and comprehensive training. The findings contribute to the discourse on SBL's role in maritime education, highlighting its potential to prepare cadets for real-world scenarios effectively.

Abstract

Abstract

Effectively implemented maritime education and training (MET) is essential to improve the competence of Indonesian seafarers in the international arena. This research examines the influence of STIP cadets' soft skills competencies. The two methods used were surveys and interviews with respondents from foreign shipping companies and maritime agents. These companies expect cadets who graduate from STIP as officers to be not only experts in hard skills competencies, but also capable of soft skills, which include the ability to manage crew, adaptability, problem solving and communication skills, as well as the ability to make presentations and give good explanations in English as communication skills. The research method used was a quantitative approach. It was found that adaptability 4,583 and teamwork 4.419 played a big role compared to problem solving 4.360 and communication 4.272. Changes in the adaptation of habits and daily activities in English in the STIP campus environment to support MET improvement are expected to increase the absorption of STIP cadets in international shipping companies.

Abstract

This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the challenges encountered by new cadets pursuing maritime education at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Jakarta. The study focuses on three major study programs at STIP, namely Port & Shipping Management, Nautical, and Technical programs. The research utilises a descriptive qualitative approach to delve into the experiences of new cadets as they make the transition from regular senior high school to maritime education, particularly in a diverse and dynamic urban setting like Jakarta. The research primarily relies on in-depth document analysis and interviews with the new cadets, shedding light on the societal and cultural adaptations that are necessitated by their geographical origins. A significant proportion of these cadets originate from rural areas far from Jakarta, which adds a layer of complexity to their adaptation process. Through a rigorous examination of the data collected, this study unveils the multifaceted challenges faced by the new cadets. These challenges encompass not only the academic demands of their respective programs but also the social and cultural adjustments they must make. Moreover, this research underscores the pivotal role of STIP, one of the preeminent vocational maritime schools in Jakarta, in facilitating these adaptations and providing a conducive learning environment. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the psychological and behavioural aspects of cadet adaptation in maritime education, with potential implications for educational policy and support systems. Understanding the challenges faced by new cadets is vital for enhancing their educational experiences and, ultimately, their success in the maritime industry.

Abstract

This research paper delves into the intricate process of adaptation undertaken by cadets enrolled in the Port & Shipping Management Study Program at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Jakarta. These cadets are subject to a rigorous Maritime Education and Boarding Learning System, which combines elements of semi-military and fully vocational training to prepare them for maritime industry roles, with a particular emphasis on the Port and Shipping sector. Employing a descriptive qualitative methodology, this study aims to unravel the strategies and challenges faced by cadets as they strive to maintain a delicate balance between the demanding aspects of their daily life. This equilibrium includes the rigorous academic commitments of the Port & Shipping Management Program, the disciplined and structured lifestyle imposed by the Maritime Education and Boarding Learning System, and the imperative of cultivating a smart approach to their studies. Through a thorough examination of the cadets' experiences, as conveyed through interviews and document analysis, this research paper aims to elucidate the psychological and behavioural intricacies of cadet life. It explores how they navigate through the challenges, adapt to the demanding environment, and ultimately prepare themselves for fulfilling careers within the maritime industry. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the educational and psychological dynamics involved in cadet adaptation. These insights may have significant implications for improving the curriculum, support systems, and overall quality of education provided in the Port & Shipping Management Study Program at STIP Jakarta.
