Abstract

This study aims to analyze the metamorphic sentences contained in a folk song which is popular in Indonesia. "Aut Boi Nian" is a song of Batak Toba literature written by Wervin Panggabean. This song has been widely played both in large-scale concerts, popular movie soundtracks and the number of shows that exceed 10 million views on the youtube channel. The meaning of the metamorphic sentence in this song contains the values of the Batak Toba culture which are represented in metamorphic sentences which when analyzed have very deep meaning, both in terms of the meaning of translation, cultural culture and moral message. The lyrics of this song were created in accordance with emotional expressions that even represented the existence of Bataknese men in general.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to describe the educational values of the main character in a Film Beautiful Mind. The study was compiled with a qualitative approach. Data was collected by watching and recording and analyzed by qualitative narrative approaches. The results showed that there are 6 educational values of the main character in the Film Beautiful Mind, including: (1) hard work, (2) creative, (3) love for the country, (4) friendly / communicative, (5) social and (6) appreciate achievement. Based on the findings in this study, Film Beautiful Mind deserves to be used as a spectacle for motivation and inspiration because it contains many educational values.

Abstract

Fernando Meireles' "City of God" is one of the most highly regarded crime films in the early 2000s. The criminal genre, especially in this film, shows many scenes of violence against children, women, and the community around Rio de Jeneiro. The violent scene continues from the beginning to the end of the film. The purpose of this research is that the writer wants to analyze the violence contained in the film City of God, both physical and psychological violence. This research uses the descriptive quantitative content analysis method which aims to study and analyze communication and movie scenes systematically and objectively to the messages seen. The results of this study indicate that the film City of God shows quite massive scenes of physical and psychological violence against fellow gangsters, drug dealers, minors, innocent families, and even harassment in the form of rape against women. The conclusion from the analysis of this research is the need for several elements of society to be involved in studying film, sensitivity to violence, and the need for age restrictions in watching certain films, including the film City of God.

Abstract

Many schools in Indonesia have improved the quality of the English skills of the students. One way to improve and develop the curriculum which outlines the English skills is by doing curriculum integration. Saint Peter Junior High School which is located Kelapa Gading - North Jakarta has applied Kurikulum 2013 and Cambridge Curriculum for some years. The Cambridge curriculum approaches language skills and Kurikulum 2013 approach used was language competence which included grammar competencies, social competencies, and communicative competencies. Integration models that are compatible with the integration of both are nesting models. The research is aimed to show the effects of the Cambridge Curriculum which is integrated with Kurikulum 2013 in Saint Peter's Junior High School. Abstract

Communities with high literacy rates usually have low crime rates and high intelligence. This is precisely the responsibility of universities and schools in increasing reading interest and literacy skills in a country. From this context, it is hoped that the educational community will really apply it, especially in juxtaposing it with online learning and several applications. The purpose of this study was to collect information about the preferences of critical vocational students in their reading interests and reading skills. It is very useful to foster interest in reading and online learning to increase cultural values ​​and social literacy. The reading literacy development model used is the Plomp model: preliminary research, prototyping, and evaluation. The Evieta application, which is online learning belonging to the Vocational School of IPB University, is expected to fulfill these goals. Educators are expected to use related applications in their learning and lead reading and writing movements in schools. The results of the validation of teaching materials show that the Evieta IPB application is important and can be tested.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the metamorphic sentences contained in popular folk songs in Indonesia. "Jujung Goar Hi Amang" is a Batak Toba literary song that is popular especially among the Batak community. This tune has been extensively performed each at large-scale live shows, famous film soundtracks, and the range of views that exceed four hundred thousand perspectives at the YouTube channel. The meaning of metamorphic sentences in this track includes Toba Batak's cultural values that are represented in metamorphic sentences which whilst analyzed have a totally deep that means, both in phrases of translation that means, cultural tradition, and moral messages. Abstract

This study aims to analyze "Ende Tanganku Na Metmet", which is a traditional song in the Toba Batak language by using translation techniques into English. Translation techniques are the methods used by translators to convey messages from the source language to the translation language. Translation techniques can explain the essence of the object of translation which is applied at the level of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. The theory used is the Newmark translation technique. This research method is descriptive analysis. Abstract

This study aims whether: 1) Microsoft Office 365 is more effective than conventional methods in teaching writing; 2) Microsoft Office 365 is more effective than other online learning media ;3) There is an increasing interest in language learning; and 4) there is an interaction between teaching methods and students' creativity in learning English. This quasi-experimental research was conducted at Saint Peter's Middle School in the 2020/2021 academic year. The sample of this study has six classes, namely the experimental class which is taught using Microsoft Office 365 and the use of Zoom as an online meeting. Each class consists of 17-22 students, with a total sample value of 60 students. Samples were obtained using cluster random sampling technique. The results showed that there was an increase in the average score and implied that Microsoft Office 365 is an effective method in teaching writing and is suitable to be applied to those who have high creativity. Abstract

The application of two or even three languages is very possible for students at the Junior High School level in metropolitan cities because they are usually directed by their families and environment in adapting to challenges. Especially in private schools in big cities, such as Jakarta, learning languages other than Indonesian are also applied, such as learning in Mandarin and also English. The use of languages (English and Mandarin, in addition to Indonesian) at home also needs to be considered, because it really helps the implementation of language acquisition at home and teaching at school. This study aims to examine students' skills in speaking in three languages. This study uses a qualitative method in comparison with the results of the end-of-semester assessment which is the result of the application of the use of the three languages for students, at home and at school. Abstract

In many cultures, literature, and kingdoms, the position of women, whether they are daughters, sisters, wives or mothers, often has an important position of influence and share. The existence of female characters in Biblical studies always has an important position and has a large enough influence so that it can strengthen or weaken men. In the Book of Kings, women can be found in their positions as queens, mothers, wives, and daughters who are directly involved with the King and his kingdom. This study aims to examine the position and role of women in their existence in the biblical narrative, especially the Book of Kings, where women often have very important positions and functions in a historical influence and the continuity of the kingdom. This study was carried out in the Bible, especially the Book of Kings which was studied as literature, and the researcher used a hermeneutic approach to describe the relationship between culture and customs at that time.
