Abstract

This research was aimed to analyze the students’ writing competence in descriptive text by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) at the tenth grade of SMK Swasta Cahaya Lahewa. This research used descriptive research type with PWIM model. The data was students’ writing descriptive text by tenth grade of SMK Swasta Cahaya Lahewa. The instruments that used to collect the data were observation sheet and interview sheet. The data was analyzed by using writing scoring rubric that consist of five main aspects, namely: content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. Furthermore, the researcher presented the data with percentage of scoring and described it into a description paragraph. The result of study showed that students’ writing descriptive text by using PWIM had not fulfilled the requirements needed, where the content was (77%), organization was (75%), vocabulary was (86%), language use was (74%), and mechanics was (69%). The percentage showed that the students were difficult to organize the ideas, lack of vocabulary and training when implemented PWIM and also environmental influence such motivation and interest in writing. Based on the results of this research, the researcher concluded that the implementation of PWIM was not appropriate in students’ writing descriptive text because of the low ability of students, particularly at the tenth grade of SMK Swasta Cahaya Lahewa.

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to understand the process of designing lesson plans for writing activities in the tenth grade at SMK Negeri 2 Alasa Talumuzoi for the academic year 2022/2023 and identify challenges faced by an English teacher during implementation. Data was collected through observations and interviews with the teacher. The analysis followed qualitative techniques, leading to conclusions based on the research objectives. The findings reveal that the teacher's lesson planning process includes various components such as educational details, competencies, objectives, materials, methods, activities, and assessments. The teacher effectively designs the lesson plan. However, challenges were identified, including incomplete alignment between competencies and activities, lack of clear instructions for students, underutilization of teaching media, inadequate final assessments, and limited student involvement in summarization. This research provides insights into the strengths and weaknesses of lesson planning and implementation in the context of writing activities.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is the ability of understanding the text, like find the information, messages, or idea from the author. Therefore, it is very important for students to master reading comprehension skills, especially in narrative text. In fact, students at SMK Negeri 1 Sogae'adu experienced problems in understanding narrative text. There were several problems faced by students in reading comprehension: The students were not able to determine the main idea, the students were not able to locate the generic structure of narrative text, the students were not able to recognize or predict the important and unimportant content of the text, and the students were lacked of vocabulary. Concerning these problems, this study aimed to solve students' problems and improve students' ability in reading comprehension through the use of the Keyword Method. This research was carried out using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. This research was conducted in two cycles consisting of two meetings in each cycle. There were 4 procedures carried out, namely: Planning, Action, Observation, Reflection. In cycle I, there were 24 students who did not achieved MCC; the average student score was 61.76. The highest score was 87 and the lowest score was 20. Meanwhile, in cycle II, the average score was 87.7, the highest score was 100 and the minimum score was 75, where all students succeeded in achieving the MCC. From the results of this study, it could be concluded that the Keyword Method solves students' problems in reading comprehension and improved students' reading comprehension skills in narrative text.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence or AI has quietly revolutionized how students approach English language learning, yet academics still fighting with fundamental question about its true educational value. This study examined 48 second-semester PGSD students of FKIP at Universitas Nias through careful classroom observation during 2024/2025 academic year. In conducting this research, the researcher chose to observe and document real students’ behaviors as they naturally unfolded in fifteen weeks of English subject class. As predicted, the emerged situation was AI tools undeniably help students completing any English tasks more efficiently and tackle challenging materials with greater confidence. However, the researcher viewed worrying patterns of over-dependence that seemed to reduce the value of critical thinking and authentic language production. The research subjects drown into feared pattern: reaching for AI assistance before attempting independent problem-solving, even for the easiest tasks. The research findings suggest that AI functions best as a supportive tool (not as all-time assistant) when students remain mindful of its limitations, but current implementation lacks the pedagogical structure necessary for optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

Berbicara adalah keterampilan berbahasa yang bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan gagasan dan perasaan secara lisan sebagai proses komunikasi kepada orang lain. Berbicara adalah proses interaksi dalam suatu situasi untuk membangun makna yang meliputi mengolah, memproduksi, dan menerima informasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis kualitatif. Fokus penelitian ini adalah analisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penampilan berbicara siswa di kelas sebelas SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli dan peneliti akan menyelidiki penampilan berbicara siswa untuk bertanya dan memberi pendapat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli dan menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli. Jumlah keseluruhan sampel adalah 20 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data adalah tes dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil, peneliti menemukan ada 7 siswa yang mencapai nilai baik, sedangkan ada 13 siswa yang mencapai nilai rendah dalam penampilan berbicara. Faktor yang paling mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara siswa disebabkan kurangnya kosakata, kurangnya tata bahasa, kurang percaya diri, kurangnya pengucapan, lingkungan, kurangnya motivasi, dan kurikulum yang lebih sedikit lebih menekankan masalah teks daripada berbicara. Akhirnya, berdasarkan temuan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa kelas sebelas SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli mampu tidak semua siswa mampu berbicara dengan baik.

Abstract

Writing is one of the important skills that must be learnt by the students. However, the students had several problems in learning writing which caused the MCC were not able to achieve by the students especially in writing recount text. They were the students were lack of vocabulary, the lack of students in organizing ideas, the students were not able to use verb and grammar correctly, and students were not able to identify the generic structure of recount text. Therefore, the aim of research was to increase the students’ writing skill in recount text through Snowball Throwing Method. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) and it was applied in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of several procedures namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result of Cycle I showed that most of the students were not able to achieve MCC where no student in “Excellent” level (0%), 4 students in “Good” level (22.22%), 10 students in “Fair” level (55.56%), and 4 students in “Poor” level (22.22%). The average of students’ writing skill in Cycle I was 65.78. While the result of Cycle II showed that all of students have been achieved MCC where 13 students in “Excellent” level (72.22%), 5 students in “Good” level (27.78%), and there was no student in “Fair” level and “Poor” level. The average of students’ writing skill in Cycle II was 80.89. Based on the result above, it proved that Snowball Throwing Method increases the students’ writing skill in recount text.

Abstract

Membaca adalah hal yang penting dan berfungsi sebagai landasan dasar dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca pemahaman. Peneliti menggunakan strategi Reciprocal Questioning (ReQuest). Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli Utara yang jumlah siswanya 31 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan peneliti untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu kertas observasi, catatan lapangan dan tes. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dan dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Hasil Siklus I siswa tidak ada siswa yang termasuk dalam kategori “sangat baik”, ada 5 siswa (16,12%) pada tingkat “baik”, ada 2 siswa (6,45%) di pada tingkat “cukup”, terdapat 14 siswa (45,16%) pada tingkat “kurang” dan terdapat 10 siswa (32,25%) pada tingkat “gagal”. Rata-rata nilai siswa pada Siklus I adalah 52,09. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa siklus I tidak berhasil, maka penelitian ini dilanjutkan ke siklus berikutnya. Hasil Siklus II menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 18 siswa (58,06%) yang tergolong dalam kategori “sangat baik”. Ada 13 siswa (41,94%) pada tingkat “baik”. Tidak ada siswa pada tingkat “cukup”, tingkat “kurang” dan tingkat “gagal”. Nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 86,61. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan strategi Reciprocal Questioning (ReQuest) dalam penelitian ini berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.

Abstract

Vocabulary is the basic competence that the students must reach to get other competencies like writing, reading, speaking, and listening. one of the problems that the researchers found were the students are not able to understand the whole of each word, The purpose of this research is to increase students’ vocabulary mastery by using Pictionary Game at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli Idanoi in 2022/2023. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) especially quantitative method as the research method. There are two cycles which cycle consisted of two meetings each meeting consisted of planning, action, observation and reflection. The data are collected by researcher from the result of the observation, field notes and the evaluation papers. From the result of the research in each cycle, it has been showed that the students get improvement by using Pictionary Game Strategy. In Cycle I the students are failed, the average of the students’ value is 63. In Cycle II all the students are successful passing the Minimum Competence Criterion. The average of the students’ value is 89. The researchers conclude the best way to increase students’ vocabulary is using Pictionary game. Therefore, the researcher has some recommendation such as the researcher recommended the students and the teacher play Pictionary Game to increase their ability in mastering vocabulary, finally the researcher recommended all readers especially to the next researchers to explore about vocabulary that had not been explored by the researcher in the research.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is the process of the reader's mind in constructing meaning of what has been read. In the reality, the students Strategy at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 2 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan have reading comprehension problems. There are also problems faced by students: Students do not understand the meaning of the words in the text, Students cannot find the main ideas in the text, Students forget the text they have read. Based on these problems, this study aims to overcome the problems faced by students and improve students' abilities in reading comprehension by using the RCRR Strategy (Read, Cover, Remember, Retell) in class VIII-B students of SMP Negeri 2 Dharma Caraka in 2022/2023. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. This research was conducted in two cycles consisting of two meetings in each cycle. The results of the research in cycle I showed that there were 18 students who did not complete the MCC out of 32 students and the average student score was 63.12. The lowest score is 40 and the highest is 80. In cycle II all students pass MCC with an average student score of 91.25 with the lowest score 70 and the highest score 100. Based on the research results, the researchers concluded that RCRR (Read, Cover, Remember, Retell) improved students' vocabulary and overcome the students' problem in this research.
