Abstract

Humans play a crucial role as the primary resource in national development endeavors. Presently, Indonesia's demographic makeup is characterized by a predominant population within the productive age range (15-65 years), encompassing adolescents. The adolescent phase signifies a transition from childhood to adulthood, with nutritional intake emerging as a pivotal factor influencing adolescent health and productivity. Ensuring teenagers receive optimal nutrition and accurate information is essential for supporting their growth and development. Without preventive measures, nutritional issues in adolescence may persist into adulthood. The objective of this outreach initiative is to delineate the nutritional status of eighth-grade students at YPPK Santu Paulus Middle School. This undertaking involves anthropometric assessments and educational interventions aimed at enhancing awareness of nutritional status among adolescents. The findings revealed the participation of 91 students, and the measurements indicated that 39 individuals experienced malnutrition, 31 had a normal nutritional status, 12 were overweight, 7 exhibited level I obesity, and 2 demonstrated level II obesity.

Abstract

Presently, Indonesia ranks as the fourth most populous country globally. The country's population is on a constant rise, accompanied by escalating issues such as poverty, hunger, gender inequality, and disparity. To address these challenges, a solution was initiated in the 1980s when the government first introduced a family planning program aimed at regulating the population's growth within the country. Employing the capability approach, this research examined the influence of Indonesia's family planning policy on women, offering a comprehensive viewpoint. Additionally, gender disparity emerges due to insufficient population and family development support for human rights. The conversion factors significantly affect the freedom capability and women's capacity to translate available resources into action. The purpose of this study is to critically discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Indonesia's family planning policy and its impact on women. The outcome indicated that obstacles for women arose from factors like shifts in governance, conflicting policies, government inefficiency, and BKKBN's incapacity to handle family planning. Consequently, it is crucial for all sectors and agencies to efficiently execute the family program to alleviate gender inequality in women's health.

Abstract

Background: The monogamous sexual behavior of married men who have sex with men (MSM) increases their risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This study aims to examine the influence of ABCD behaviors on the incidence of STIs among married MSM in Indonesia. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 24 provinces in Indonesia. The study population comprised MSM who had ever engaged in sexual intercourse, either occasionally, once, or frequently, totaling 6,000 individuals. A sample of 775 participants who were married MSM was selected using the Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) method. Data from the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Survey (STBP) 2018-2019 was utilized. The data was analyzed using multivariate analysis with STATA 14 software. Results: The variables of no vaginal sex, no anal sex, condom use, and needle drug use behavior are associated with the incidence of STIs when controlled by the variable of alcohol consumption behavior. Conclusion: Practicing ABCD behaviors among married MSM can help reduce and prevent STIs.

Abstract

Transactional sex has been recognized as a significant element hindering the reduction of drug usage in Papua, Indonesia. The national objective for drug usage reduction was established at 1.67% for 2024; nevertheless, this target remains unfulfilled. This research investigated the correlation between transactional sex and substance abuse among female and adolescent prisoners in Papua Province. A case-control approach was utilized, employing primary data gathered from May to September 2023 at the Special Correctional Institution for Juveniles (LPKA) and the Women’s Correctional Institution (LPP) in Papua. The research population consisted of 85 offenders incarcerated from 2021 to 2023. A total of 26 cases (drug users) and 59 controls (non-users) were included using total sampling, in a 1:2 ratio. Data were gathered using a modified version of the Rapid Survey Questionnaire on Injecting Drug User Behavior (SCP Penasun). Analysis was conducted using STATA version 14, employing multivariate logistic regression to identify related factors. In all, 30.6% of participants were identified as drug users according to case-control selection, rather than as an estimation of population-level prevalence. Inmates who indicated participation in transactional sex exhibited increased odds of drug acquisition (adjusted OR: 1.59; 95% CI: 0.46–5.39) after controlling for work status, past-year drug usage, and duration of use. The findings suggest a possible trend of heightened drug acquisition among inmates engaged in transactional sex, although the correlation remains ambiguous. Consequently, integrated therapies targeting both substance use and sexual risk behaviors are crucial in custodial environments.
