Abstract

This article describes the results of community service activities aimed at students of Dharma Ayu Kefamenanu High School, with the aim that students are able to address waste problems in the school environment. There are two alternatives that can be used to solve the problem of organic waste, namely first throwing the waste in its place, and second processing the waste into a more beneficial product. This community service activity is more focused on the second alternative, namely that students are trained to be able to recycle organic waste into useful products. One of the bio-products is ecoenzyme, where this product uses organic solid waste and names the obtained solution as waste enzyme. Ecoenzyme products are also very functional and relatively easy to make as they use simple and accessible ingredients. This community service activity uses socialization methods and direct training for students related to the management of organic waste into ecoenzyme bio-products. This research method is applied through several stages including the observation stage, implementation stage, and follow-up stage. The result of this service activity is that students can understand the utilization of organic waste into more beneficial products, and the study related to this ecoenzyme product can be integrated into the learning process because it can train teachers and students to develop creativity in expressing new ideas for the development of learning innovations.

Abstract

According to BPS data (2021), the North Central Timor Regency has a potential coffee production of 210.00 tons, with a planting area reaching nearly 1,152 ha, predominantly distributed in the West Miomaffo region. Water availability and soil fertility levels are the primary limiting factors in coffee cultivation practices. This study aims to determine the effect of biochar dosage and soil moisture levels on the growth of coffee seedlings (Coffea sp.). This research utilized a Split Plot Design with two factors and three replications. The results showed that a higher watering discharge significantly increased soil temperature. An application of 40 g of biochar significantly increased plant height at 84 DAP (Days after Planting) and stem diameter across all observation periods. While the combination of 60 g biochar and a watering discharge of 4 mL/second produced the tallest plants at each observation, the 40 g biochar dosage was sufficiently influential and not significantly different from the 60 g dosage across all watering levels. The application of biochar dosage is closely related to the increase in soil organic carbon content, which subsequently influences the increase in plant height, stem diameter at 70 DAP, and 84 DAP. The treatment of 60 g biochar and 4 mL/second watering was found to be the most optimal in enhancing the growth of coffee seedlings.

Abstract

Maubesi Village is an area with significant potential for the development of eucalyptus (Melaleuca cajuputi). The Faot Bano Farmers Group utilizes this plant through distillation using a simple distillation apparatus made from a rust-proof drum, with an ineffective cooling system, resulting in low eucalyptus oil yield. Recognizing this potential, a eucalyptus oil distillation technology mentoring program was conducted to improve farmers' technical capacity in the production process and to improve the yield and quality of the eucalyptus oil produced. The program methods included knowledge transfer, distillation equipment operational training, and hands-on distillation practice using appropriate and easy-to-operate distillation equipment. The distillation process, which takes 4-5 hours, produces an oil yield of 1.5 liters (1.5%) from 100 kg of eucalyptus leaves. The oil yield increased compared to before the mentoring program, and the oil quality met better visual and aromatic characteristics. This activity proves that the application of appropriate distillation technology and supported by continuous mentoring can increase the production and quality of eucalyptus oil, and has the potential to strengthen the economic independence of the Maubesi Village community based on local resources.
