Abstract

Kata Kunci: M&A Lintas Batas, Jarak Geografis, Ukuran Pasar, Kualitas RegulasiABSTRACTWhile in the past the cross–border M&A activities were conducted mainly by developed countries through DMNEs, the rising dominance of BRICS countries has made these countries important players in global cross–border M&A activities. This study aimed to investigate the cross-border M&As conducted by EMNEs from five BRICS countries in 55 developing countries in 4 continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America) from 2002 to 2019. An econometric approach was used for the empirical analysis of the role of geographical distance, host market size, and regulatory quality on the cross-border M&As performed by EMNEs. The results showed that market size does not significantly affect the degree of ownership of EMNEs in cross-border M&As. However, the geographical distance and regulatory quality significantly affect the degree of ownership of EMNEs in cross-border M&As. The larger the geographical distance and the stricter its regulatory quality, the higher the degree of EMNEs ownership in cross-border M&As. This study contributes to the cross–border M&A literature, especially on the ownership of EMNEs in developing countries. It also offers several practical implications about the subject matter. Keywords: Cross-border M&As, Geographic Distance, Market Size, Regulatory Quality

Abstract

Motor vehicle tax is a vital source of Local Own-Source Revenue in Jayapura City, yet low taxpayer compliance continues to hinder optimal revenue collection. This study examines how taxpayer awareness and tax penalties influence compliance with motor vehicle tax payments. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed with multiple linear regression to assess both partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables. The results reveal that taxpayer awareness does not have a significant impact on compliance, as shown by a significance value of 0.886, which is higher than the 0.05 threshold. Conversely, tax penalties demonstrate a positive and statistically significant effect, with a significance value below 0.001. Furthermore, simultaneous testing indicates that both variables significantly affect compliance, with an F value of 31.470 and an R² value of 0.473, meaning that 47.3% of the variation in compliance is explained by the model. These findings suggest that strict and consistent enforcement of tax penalties is more effective in improving taxpayer compliance than relying solely on awareness efforts, offering valuable insights for local governments to enhance motor vehicle tax revenue.

Abstract

The results of this study indicate that the use of the QRIS payment system has a positive and significant effect on the economic development of MSMEs in Jayapura Regency. This can be interpreted to mean that the use of the QRIS payment system has a positive impact on increasing the income of MSMEs in Jayapura Regency (t-count value of 5.782 t-table value of 1.701, and a significance value for the QRIS payment system variable (X) of 0.000 0.05). Furthermore, based on statements from MSME respondents in Jayapura Regency who use QRIS, several constraints were identified, namely: some users still do not fully understand how to use QRIS, network connectivity issues, delays in real-time/instant fund disbursement, the existence of QRIS usage fees charged to merchants, and the absence of transaction fee discounts or promotions as offered by payment applications such as OVO, GoPay, and others. However, these constraints are perceived as not having a significant overall impact on their business income. This is evidenced by the fact that out of 30 respondents, only 19 respondents stated that these constraints did not significantly affect their business income.

Abstract

Mud crab (Scylla spp.), locally known as karaka, is a high-value fisheries commodity that supports the livelihoods of coastal communities in Mimika Regency, particularly in Fanamo and Omawita Villages, East Mimika District. However, inadequate post-harvest handling practices have resulted in high mortality rates, reduced product quality, and low market prices received by fishers. This community service program aimed to improve fishers’ knowledge and skills in proper mud crab handling based on Better Management Practices (BMP). A participatory and qualitative descriptive approach was applied through socialization sessions, focus group discussions, technical demonstrations, and hands-on practice. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of quality standards, appropriate storage and transportation techniques, and common handling errors. Implementation of BMP principles reduced crab mortality rates from an estimated 15–20% to below 5%, leading to substantial potential income gains for fishers. Beyond economic benefits, the activity also enhanced awareness of sustainable mud crab management and the importance of conserving mangrove ecosystems. Overall, this program contributed to strengthening fishers’ capacity, improving their bargaining position within the supply chain, and supporting more sustainable coastal fisheries management in Mimika Regency.

Abstract

Mangrove crab (Scylla spp.) fisheries constitute an important livelihood source for coastal communities in Far East Mimika District, Indonesia. However, increasing market demand has led to unsustainable fishing practices, including the capture of egg-bearing females, harvesting of undersized crabs, and the use of nonselective fishing gear that damages mangrove habitats. These practices threaten crab stock sustainability and the long-term welfare of fishing communities. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of a socialization and training program promoting sustainable mangrove crab fishing methods in Fanamo and Omawita Villages. The program applied a community-based approach consisting of awareness campaigns, hands-on training in eco-friendly fishing gear (folding traps with escape gaps and selective gillnets), introduction of minimum catch-size regulations, establishment of no-catch zones, and implementation of a simple catch logbook system. The activities were conducted through participatory discussions, field demonstrations, workshops, and mentoring. The results indicate increased awareness among fishermen regarding conservation principles, adoption of environmentally friendly fishing gear by participating fishers, and initial use of catch logbooks for monitoring productivity. Despite challenges such as limited literacy and time constraints, the mentoring approach strengthened behavioral change and local acceptance of sustainable practices. The study concludes that integrating socialization, technical training, and community-based monitoring effectively supports sustainable resource management while maintaining fishers’ productivity. This initiative provides a practical model for strengthening coastal governance and ensuring the ecological and economic sustainability of mangrove crab fisheries.

Abstract

Papua Province, known for its abundant natural resources and cultural diversity, faces significant challenges in achieving inclusive economic development. Persistent disparities in income, infrastructure, and access to essential services have hindered equitable growth and social welfare improvement. This study examines the inclusiveness of economic development in Papua and explores its driving factors. Utilizing secondary data from the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional, Bappenas), BPS - Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik, BPS), and the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance (Direktorat Jenderal Perimbangan Keuangan, DJPK) for 2017–2021, the research employs descriptive analysis and panel data regression methods. The panel regression results highlight the critical role of fiscal policies in promoting inclusivity. Economic expenditures demonstrate a positive and significant impact on inclusive development, fostering equitable economic participation and productivity. In contrast, basic infrastructure spending shows a significant negative effect, possibly due to uneven allocation or misalignment with local community needs. While education expenditures are not statistically significant, they exhibit potential for enhancing inclusivity through long-term human capital development. These findings underscore the importance of targeted and well-distributed fiscal policies to address Papua’s unique socio-economic challenges. By prioritizing human capital, aligning infrastructure investments with local needs, and fostering balanced economic growth, policymakers can pave the way for more inclusive development across the province. This research provides valuable insights for designing effective policy interventions to reduce inequality and foster sustainable economic growth in Papua.
