Abstract

Dispensers have an important role in providing adequate drinking water for needs and can be placed around where we work. The purpose of this research is how to design and make an automatic dispenser system based on Arduino Uno and it can work well when filling the glass when the glass is placed. This research was conducted by coding using Arduino IDE 1.0.6 software to program Arduino Uno to control servo motors and ultrasonic sensors. The results of this study indicate that the automatic dispenser can work to fill glasses from a distance of 5 cm to 0 cm and open the dispenser faucet 1 cm. From the manufacture of this tool it can be concluded that this tool works well, in accordance with its purpose to make it easier to take water, the automatic dispenser is driven by a servo motor with a wire attached to the side of the dispenser lever, the control system uses Arduino Uno. Suggestions can be given so that this tool can be developed. Another suggestion for development is that so that the automatic system of this tool can work properly, the placement of the sensor must be in the right position so that the glass plate can be filled properly, it is better to turn on the Arduino uno by using a switch.

Abstract

There are two factors that determine the rate of heat transfer from hot water to air as a cooling medium, namely the contact time and the surface area between the phases, where to determine the performance of the cooling tower, the performance of the cooling tower needs to be identified. Because of this, research is needed which aims to determine fluid circulation in induced draft counterflow cooling towers and to determine the cooling ability with a standard inlet water temperature of 70oC and a standard outlet water temperature of 27oC. This research uses a structured or quantitative approach method where the research process is carried out by making a design and design of a cooling system which is then identified by measuring and calculating cooling towers. Based on research conducted on the mechanism of fluid circulation in induced draft counterflow cooling towers, it starts with hot water entering the tower being expelled through the nozzle, where the falling water will break and slow down as it passes through the filler. At the same time air enters through the inlet and passes through the filler, hot steam will be attracted along with the air and cold water will fall into the cold water pool. The cooling tower is capable of cooling water from a temperature of 70oC to a standard discharge temperature of 27oC with an average range of 44.38oC and an average approach of -0.67oC and produces an effectiveness value of up to 100% and a maximum heat absorption capacity of up to 225 kW.

Abstract

A solar-powered ship is a means of marine transportation that is designed in such a way that its use is different from ships in general. This ship relies on solar energy as the main fuel so that this ship uses solar panels to capture sunlight and is stored in batteries/batteries as energy to drive a DC motor so that the electric ship can move stably. The goal is to be able to complete the final task. The method used in this final project uses the method of collecting data by searching for books, journals and modules related to the design title as a reference for the tool that the researcher designed. The result of this design is that the solar powered electric boat with 250 watts of power takes 59 seconds at a distance of 10 meters. 23 cm using a 50 Watt solar panel, 12 Volt Battery/Battery and 12 Volt DC Dynamo/Motor. As a boat engine and also an electric boat, this is very good as an alternative means of transportation that is environmentally friendly with no operational costs and small maintenance costs.

Abstract

The increasing development of science and technology is marked by the rapid progress that occurs with the creation of increasingly sophisticated equipment as well as security systems such as door locks. The design of this tool aims to increase the security of the door and to increase the power of creativity, innovation and expertise. This system uses an Arduino microcontroller board that functions as a control center, a fingerprint sensor is used to open the lock from outside and an ultrasonic sensor is used to open the lock from inside the room, and this system is equipped with a conventional key as an unlocker if a problem occurs in the system. The results of testing this tool on the fingerprint sensor, the test is carried out using five fingers, where three fingers have been registered and two fingers are not registered. Two fingers that have been registered can be read and one finger that has been registered cannot be read, this can occur due to several factors such as dirty sensor fingers, incorrect finger positions and others. In the ultrasonic sensor there is no problem with the sensor. This tool has the advantage that the level of security is higher than conventional keys and has a conventional key as a backup in case of a problem with the system. This tool also has the disadvantage that it must always be connected to a power source, but in the event of a power outage, it can use batteries. Some components of this tool will also heat up if it is continuously connected to a power source but can be overcome by using a heatsink or other type of cooler.

Abstract

The need for spices continues to increase in line with the increasing population of the growing industrial world that requires raw materials from nutmeg seeds, the parts that are utilized in nutmeg fruit are mainly the pulp, seed shell, seed coat and fruit flesh. The design of this dryer aims to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the process of drying raw materials in the community. This tool uses an electric motor as the prime mover and uses a panel box as the center of the electrical control device, which contains several components such as a regulator to control the motor speed, an MCB to protect the voltage and other components. The results of testing this tool were quite good, the results of testing the ingredients at a weight of 200-205g in 75 minutes at a temperature of 100°C left a moisture content of 15.62% in nutmeg and 39.28% in candlenut. The cashew test was carried out at a weight of 200-205g in 50 minutes at a temperature of 72.2°C leaving 50.49% moisture content. The cassava test was carried out at a weight of 200-205g in 25-29 minutes at a temperature of 122°C leaving 60.90% moisture content. Testing on corn cobs was carried out at a weight of 200-205g in 25 minutes at a temperature of 119°C with a final weight of 124g. This tool has advantages, namely, it can save drying time, temperature control is easy to do and this tool has been equipped with a current safety device in the event of an electric short circuit. This tool also has drawbacks, namely, it cannot dry raw materials in the form of sheets, slices and powders. The drying tube is not long enough, so a manual continuous cycle is required, for raw materials that require drying time exceeding 25 minutes and requires more electric power.

Abstract

The development of building construction always requires materials, machines (equipment) and work methods to increase the efficiency of work completion. Sand material which is the main building material in the manufacture of a construction structure. The work method for separation is generally carried out by sieving which aims to obtain uniform sand sizes. In this study, a sand sieving machine was designed using the translation method of shaft rotary motion. Procedures in the design of the sand sieving machine are carried out by collecting initial data and field requirements regarding the sand sieving machine, determining the effective mechanism of the sand sieving machine, analyzing the elements of the sand sieving machine, and determining the design of the sand sieving machine. The working system of the machine is designed to use an electric drive motor, a pulley belt transmission system is used to reduce the rotation of the motor, then the eccentric drive shaft is used to rotate the crank which in turn moves the pusher rod so that the sieve moves translationally. The frame design of this sand sieving machine uses square profile steel 40 mm x 40 mm with a thickness of 2 mm. The box profile steel is designed so that it becomes the support of several machine components including the sieves, the dimensions of the frame are 100 cm long, 70 cm high and 70 cm wide. The calculation results obtained that the shear stress that occurs on the shaft is smaller than the allowable stress. The sieving machine design uses a belt transmission and two pulleys to reduce the motor rotation to 509 rpm, this rotation is then converted into translational motion to move the sieve with a speed of 2.34 m/s.

Abstract

The characteristics of the flow passing over the structure affect the stability, aerodynamic design and response of the structure to the flow patterns passing over it. This study numerically examines the effects of using a splitter plate on the velocity pattern, pressure, aerodynamic forces and flow deformation at a Reynolds number of 104. This study used a 2D double-type flow splitter on the downstream side with a k-ε turbulent model using ANSYS FLUENT 18.2 software. Numerical simulation results show that the use of splitter plate has changed the flow pattern passing through the square cylinder which is indicated by the reduction of negative flow zone, pressure recovery, and decrease of drag force. The flow deformation pattern is different from the cylinder without a splitter plate. Numerical data are also shown in the form of flow contours to verify the graphical data shown in the present study. This study also shows that the use of a splitter plate also shows different grid sensitivity from a regular square cylinder, so the grid sensitivity validation-verification test of a cylinder with a splitter plate is not recommended for similar cases.

Abstract

This study is designed to analyze the flow characteristics aver a square body with variations in the angle of attack of the flow. The force components u, CD, -CPb, CL and St are analyzed numerically. The method used in this research is the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulent model with variations in the angle of incidence of fluid flow on a square test geometry model with cross-section height H = 40 mm (D = H). The results showed that the large angle of incidence of the flow increased the value of CD, CL due to the enlargement of the flow in the downstream wake area. While the CP value also decreased due to the negative pressure gradient of the downstream area enlarged with an increase in the value of the angle of attack of the flow. The angle of attack increases the parameters CDmax = 2.33, CP = -1.87, and St = 0.09 at an angle of -30° while at an angle of 0° the value of CD = 2.05 -CPb = -1.37, St = 0.128. Changes in the angle of incidence of the flow affect the frequency of vortices. The local velocity component (u) decreased.

Abstract

Dynamic response, fatigue, and stability issues of a structure are closely related to flow behavior past a bluff body structure. Flow past the free-end rectangular prism is investigated numerically using a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model at Re = 22000. The prism model has a constant depth (D) to width (H) ratio D/H = 0.5 for span length variation L (= 10; 7,5; 5,0 and 2,5H). Effects of the free end on the flow characteristics showed that the flow pattern, velocity vector, and fluid forces component are changed. The presence of the free end is closed related to the flow characteristics alteration in the wake, which is presented graphically in this paper. This study suggests the critical aspect ratio of the slender rectangular is 2,5<L/H<5,0 The prism with critical aspect L = 2,5H presented an unusual flow behavior among the test models. The dynamic response of the test model affects the flow pattern in the wake, which is indicated by alteration of the region and intensity of vorticity, velocity vector, hydrodynamic force components, and other local components.

Abstract

Thematic KKN is a form of community empowerment to increase economic value and shape the character of an entrepreneurial spirit. This service partner is Puasana village, North Moramo District, South Konawe. The partners' problems are (1) the community in Puasana village has not yet implemented corn sheller technology in processing animal feed (2) the target audience partners still have low knowledge and skills in processing animal feed. The method for carrying out service activities consists of socialization, presenting material and demonstrating corn shelling tools to the target audience. The results of this activity are as follows: first, the community is enthusiastic in participating in a series of service activities starting from preparation to testing the tool. Second, the public understands the technology of corn shellers, starting from the working principles, tool components and operating mechanisms. Third, the spirit of entrepreneurship is increasing as measured by the attendance level at each meeting reaching 95%. Keywords: Corn sheller technology, .
