Abstract

Abstract

The Effectiveness of Group Guidance Using the Problem-Solving Technique is closely connected to adolescent development, particularly in understanding themselves, regulating emotions, and building healthy social interactions. Initial observations at MTs Muhammadiyah Karangkajen showed that some students struggled to recognize their feelings, strengths, and weaknesses, and understand the impact of their behavior on others. This study examined the effectiveness of this technique in improving students’ self-awareness. Using a quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, 101 seventh-grade students with low self-awareness scores were selected through purposive sampling. The Self-Awareness Scale was administered before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using SPSS with normality testing and paired sample t-tests. Results indicated a significant increase in self-awareness, demonstrating the technique’s effectiveness in supporting students’ emotional and social development.. Abstract

Marriage readiness is an important developmental aspect among university students, encompassing emotional and social maturity as well as the ability to perform marital roles. However, psychometrically sound instruments for measuring marriage readiness remain limited, particularly within the Indonesian guidance and counseling context. This study aimed to validate the Marriage Readiness instrument for university students using the Rasch Measurement Model to determine its feasibility as a psychological assessment tool. A quantitative approach was employed involving 217 students and 40 instrument items analyzed using Winsteps version 4.4.5. The analysis included person and item reliability, item fit, unidimensionality, and mapping of respondents’ abilities and item difficulty through the Wright map. The results indicated good psychometric quality, with person reliability of 0.92 and item reliability of 0.95. Most items met the Rasch model criteria, although several misfitting items were identified and required revision. Unidimensionality analysis showed that the instrument consistently measured a single underlying construct, with a raw variance explained by measures of 40.9%. The Wright map demonstrated an appropriate alignment between item difficulty and respondent characteristics. Therefore, the Marriage Readiness instrument is feasible for use as an assessment tool in guidance and counseling services to identify university students’ level of marriage readiness.

Abstract

The low level of academic hardiness among junior high school students in coping with academic pressure indicates the need for interventions that can strengthen students’ resilience in academic settings. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group guidance services using role-playing techniques in improving students’ academic hardiness. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The participants consisted of 8 students selected based on their academic hardiness levels. Data were collected using an Academic Hardiness Scale developed based on Kobasa’s theory, encompassing the dimensions of commitment, control, and challenge. The instrument was tested using the Rasch model and demonstrated good measurement quality, with person reliability of .90, item reliability of .99, and Cronbach’s Alpha of .92. Group guidance services using role-playing techniques were conducted in four sessions to strengthen students’ commitment, control, and challenge in dealing with academic demands. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and a paired sample t-test. The findings indicated that group guidance services using role-playing techniques were effective in improving students’ academic hardiness. These findings suggest that role-playing can be implemented as a practical strategy in group guidance services to help students strengthen resilience, maintain learning commitment, and cope more effectively with academic pressure.

Abstract

Modern dynamics have contributed to a significant decline in empathy among adolescents; however, the potential of local wisdom as a foundation for guidance and counseling interventions remains empirically under-explored, particularly in the context of Mandar culture. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group guidance based on Siwaliparri values, a Mandar cultural concept emphasizing togetherness and equality, in enhancing student empathy. Employing a Pre-Experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest design, the research involved eight students (N=8) from SMA Negeri 1 Majene, selected via simple random sampling based on low empathy score criteria. Data were collected using an Empathy Scale (30 items, a=0.80) and analyzed using a Paired Sample t-test. Results indicated a significant increase in students’ empathy, shifting from the “low” category (Mean=70.1, SD=6.4) to the “moderate” category (Mean=86.3, SD=5.2), with t = 10.645 and p <0.001. The effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.78) demonstrates a very large practical impact of the intervention. In conclusion, Siwaliparri-based interventions are highly effective in increasing empathy, offering a culturally responsive framework for school counselors in Mandar and similar cultural contexts to address the empathy crisis among adolescents while preserving Mandar’s local wisdom.
