Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate a hoax detection model based on Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) using a Semi-Supervised Learning approach. In the context of the increasing spread of false information on online platforms, the model is designed to automatically classify news articles as hoaxes or non-hoaxes, even when labeled data is limited. The initial model was trained on a labeled minor dataset and then used to predict labels for an unlabeled major dataset. After combining both datasets, a retraining process was conducted to improve the models generalization to various linguistic styles and sentence structures. Evaluation results show that the model achieved an accuracy of 84%, recall of 76.9%, precision of 70%, and an F1-score of 73.3%. These findings demonstrate that the semi-supervised approach, which combines labeled and unlabeled data, can significantly enhance model performance in hoax detection tasks. This study contributes to the development of an effective and adaptable automated hoax detection system that addresses linguistic challenges in online news texts.

Abstract

The spread of hoaxes through social media presents a significant challenge to the accuracy of public information. Automated detection based on natural language processing (NLP) offers a potential solution to this issue. This study investigates the impact of keyword extraction methods on the performance of hoax classification using the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) architecture. Two methods are evaluated: YAKE, which relies on statistical features, and KeyBERT, which utilizes semantic representations from the BERT transformer model. The IDNHoaxCorpus, an Indonesian-language dataset, serves as the experimental basis, undergoing preprocessing, keyword extraction, and model training stages. Evaluation metrics include accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and processing time. Results show that KeyBERT achieves higher accuracy and F1-score (82.56% and 73.30%, respectively) compared to YAKE (80.07% and 71.11%), but at the cost of significantly longer processing time (360 seconds vs. 13 seconds). These findings highlight a notable trade-off between accuracy and computational efficiency, which should be considered based on application requirements such as real-time systems or batch processing. This study underscores the importance of selecting appropriate feature extraction strategies in text-based hoax detection systems.

Abstract

Established in September 2023, the Lentera Cita Karya Foundation aims to address the educational and therapeutic needs in an inclusive community for children with special needs by providing holistic services through the Special Harmony School in North Jakarta. The school offers tailored education for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and intellectual disabilities (including Down syndrome), incorporating therapeutic support such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration, and parent-teacher skill development programs. Despite these efforts, the implementation of therapeutic communication remains a challenge for facilitators, including teachers and therapists. Issues include limited understanding of effective verbal and non-verbal communication strategies, emotional expression, and appropriate interaction in both medical and non-medical settings. To address these challenges, a community engagement program was conducted involving 12 participants, consisting of inclusive education teachers, therapists, and parents. The program utilized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method, followed by expert-led sessions conducted by university lecturers. Over three separate sessions, participants engaged in thematic discussions on therapeutic communication, followed by structured presentations designed to enhance their conceptual and practical understanding. The initiative identified three major challenges: communication between therapists and children with special needs, the childrens communication with their environment, and persistent societal stigma. The program succeeded in improving participants awareness, emotional sensitivity, and basic therapeutic communication strategies applicable in inclusive educational settings.

Abstract

Miscommunication arises when communication between individuals is not conducted with optimal effectiveness and efficiency. This phenomenon is notably prevalent within academic environments, such as schools, which constitute a significant portion of an individual's formative yearstypically spanning 12 years. To address this issue, a structured program encompassing mentorship and training rooted in communication studies, both theoretical and practical, was implemented with the aim of mitigating instances of miscommunication. This initiative engaged a total of 124 participants, comprising 118 students and 6 teachers from Kristoforus II Senior High School in Jakarta. The training emphasized the development of public communication skills, alongside their application within the fields of psychological communication and broadcast communication. Participants provided overwhelmingly positive feedback on the training's execution, underscoring the efficacy of practical training methods. The findings reaffirm the recommendation of practical approaches as an optimal methodology for enhancing public communication competencies in educational industries.

Abstract

Sudirman Street in Bandung has become a unique phenomenon in the urban landscape of Indonesia. As a popular culinary district, it draws attention due to the presence of non-halal food amidst a predominantly Muslim population. This condition raises questions about how cultural tolerance, religious identity, and economic dynamics interact in public spaces. This study employs the social-identity theory and the concept of a gastronomic city, using direct observation and literature review methods to analyze the cultural negotiation processes that occur. Observation was conducted to understand the social dynamics of the area, while the literature review was used to strengthen the theoretical analysis. The findings reveal that tolerance in this area is pragmatic, managed through space segmentation between halal and non-halal dining areas, as well as social norms emphasizing respect for individual beliefs. Furthermore, this area functions as a representation of a gastronomic city, where cross-cultural experiences are presented through culinary exploration. This study contributes to academic discourse on the formation of tolerance spaces in urban contexts, particularly in areas with cultural and religious pluralism. Thus, Sudirman Street is not merely a culinary hub but also a social negotiation space that reflects the flexibility of identity and urban societal harmony
