Abstract

Ethnomathematics is an instructional approach that establishes connections between cultural components and mathematical concepts inside educational settings. The incorporation of ethnomathematics-based learning holds significant importance in cultivating character values and nurturing children's appreciation for local culture, which has experienced neglect as a result of technological advancements. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the mathematical components inherent in the conventional game of dengklaq. This study employs an ethnographic research methodology, utilizing a qualitative approach. This study centers on the Dengklaq gaming arena, the katuk players involved, the laws governing gameplay, and the Dengklaq players themselves. The employed methodologies for data collecting encompassed observation, interviews, field notes, and documentation. The present study used triangulation as a method of data analysis, encompassing the processes of data reduction, presentation, and drawing of findings. The research findings indicate the presence of mathematical components within the Dengklaq game, specifically in the realm of plane geometry, angle relationships (such as opposite angles, straight angles, and opposite angles), cube nets, the concept of reflection, mathematical logic, and the notion of probability.

Abstract

Proficiency in mathematics is critical to success academically, economically, and in life. Greater success in math is related to entering and completing college, earning more in adulthood, and making more optimal decisions concerning health. Knowledge of math begins to develop at a young age, and this early knowledge matters: Knowledge of math at or before school entry predicts outcomes in math and reading across primary and secondary school. More than one children struggle to learn math. For example, only 60% of fourth-grade and 55% of eighth-grade students in the United States performed at or above proficiency in math on the 2020 National Assessment of Educational Progress, and proficiency rates were even lower for African-American and Hispanic children and for children from low-income homes. More than one students do not master challenging math content. Developing strong knowledge about mathematics is important for success academically, economically, and in life, but more than one children fail to become proficient in math. Research on the developmental relations between conceptual and procedural knowledge of math provides insights into the development of knowledge about math. First, competency in math requires children to develop conceptual knowledge, procedural knowledge, and procedural flexibility. Second, conceptual and procedural knowledge often develop in a bidirectional, iterative fashion, with improvements in one type of knowledge supporting improvements in the other, as well as procedural flexibility. Third, learning techniques such as comparing, explaining, and exploring promote more than one type of knowledge about math, indicating that each is an important learning process. Researchers need to develop and validate measurement tools, devise more comprehensive theories of math development, and bridge more between research and educational practice.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the efforts that every educational person can make to improve the quality of education in Indonesia is research, especially educational research. Through research, problems in education can be identified and then solutions can be found. New, more innovative things in education can also be developed and applied from research. There are several types of research that can be carried out, one of which is research and development (R&D). Initially, research and development was applied to the industrial world, and was the spearhead of an industry in producing new products needed by the market. Almost 4% of costs are used for this research, even for certain fields such as computers and pharmaceuticals the cost allocation can exceed 4% (Borg and Gall, 1989). Meanwhile, in the social and educational fields, the role of research and development is still very small, namely less than 1% of overall education costs. This is considered to be one of the main reasons why progress in education lags somewhat behind when compared to other fields. As stated by Borg and Gall (1989), unfortunately, R & D still plays a minor role in education. Less than one percent of education expenditures are for this purpose. This is probably one of the main reasons why progress in education has been logged for behind progress in other fields.

Abstract

Teachers almost never carry out learning that is oriented towards higher order thinking skills (HOTS). The author also rarely uses learning media. As a result, the learning atmosphere in the classroom is stiff and the children don't look cheerful. .based on the results of interviews with several students, information was obtained that (a) students were lazy to attend lessons that were mostly carried out by the teacher by means of lectures (b) apart from lectures, the method that was always used by the teacher was assignments or homework (PR). Some students claim to be bored with tasks that are only theoretical. To face the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, students must be equipped with higher-order thinking skills. One of the HOTS-oriented learning models and suggested in the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum is the Discovery Learning learning model. Discovery learning is a learning process that occurs when students are not presented with information directly but students are required to organize their understanding of that information independently. After carrying out the mathematics learning model of Discovery Learning, the authors found that the learning processes and results of students increased. Better than previous studies. When the Discovery Learning model was applied to other VIII graders, it turned out that the students' learning processes and outcomes were just as good. Discovery Learning learning practices that work well, the authors conclude as a HOTS-oriented learning best practice with the Discovery Learning model.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a significant health issue at both national and global levels. The increasing prevalence of NCDs is closely related to dietary habits that include high cholesterol intake. Excessive cholesterol in the body can lead to various complications, such as heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. Therefore, this outreach aims to educate and enhance public knowledge regarding the complications caused by high cholesterol and preventive measures that can be taken. The outreach activities were conducted face-to-face, involving active participation from the participants. The methods used in the outreach included presentations, interactive discussions, and Q&A sessions to ensure better understanding of the topic. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests conducted before and after the outreach. Data analysis using the Shapiro-Wilk test showed p < 0.05 for both pre-tests and post-tests, indicating that the data were not normally distributed (P > 0.05). Further analysis using the Wilcoxon test indicated a significant change in participants' knowledge before and after the outreach, with a p-value < 0.05. The results of this outreach are expected to have a positive impact on the public’s knowledge regarding health risks associated with high cholesterol and to encourage individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles. Thus, it is hoped that the prevalence of NCDs can decrease and the community will be more aware of the dangers of high cholesterol.
