Abstract

Abstract

One of the oldest civilizations in the world is located on the plains of China and developed into the period known as Ancient China. One of the dynasties that played a role in the Ancient Chinese period was the Zhou Dynasty (1045-221 BC), which succeeded in overthrowing the Shang Dynasty (1600-1045 BC). Historians say the Zhou Dynasty was very important in Chinese history because it played a major role in the formation of modern-day China. This research aims to understand the development and influence of the Zhou Dynasty on Chinese history, both past and present. This research applies historical methods in the process, as for the stages as follows: (1) heuristics; (2) criticism; (3) interpretation; and (4) historiography. The Zhou Dynasty began with the founding by King Wu Wang after overthrowing the Shang Dynasty. During the passage of time, the Zhou Dynasty implemented a feudal system by giving plots of land to nobles. At the end of the Zhou Dynasty, the nobles rebelled and inter-regional wars led to the collapse of the Zhou Dynasty. Although the Zhou Dynasty had collapsed, the Zhou Dynasty had left legacies, such as: (1) The mandate of heaven (tiānmìng); (2) Fēngjiàn; (3) Confucianism; (4) Taoism; and (5) The Book Art of War.

Abstract

The recognition of sovereignty to a country by another country is one of the conditions for the establishment of a country, including the Republic of Indonesia which has just proclaimed independence on August 17, 1945. One of the countries that supported and recognized the existence of Indonesia at that time was Australia. Australia at that time supported Indonesian Independence through a union strike against Dutch ships in Australian ports that wanted to sail back to Indonesia in order to reclaim their colony. This strike action is known as Black Armada and is documented through the documentary film Indonesia Calling. The purpose of this research is to understand the memory contained in the documentary film Indonesia Calling and its correlation with the Black Armada event. The research uses historical methods with a qualitative approach. The Black Armada incident occurred for four years (1945-1949) which was marked by a strike by Indonesian ship workers. In subsequent developments, the strike spread across Australia and was followed by ship workers union and Australian citizen, particularly in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle. This action was documented through the film Indonesia Calling by Joris Ivens, which was then disseminated to the international world so that other countries provided support for Indonesian independence as a condition for the establishment of a country.

The methods used in this study are musicological analysis and historical methods with a qualitative approach. Suwardi Suryaningrat's reason for translating the song L'internationale into Indonesian is related to his habit of writing and translating foreign languages into Indonesian. Abstract

Nationalism can be seen as a double-edged sword, which functions as a binding of a nation's identity but can also trigger Islamophobia and terrorism. After the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, the country began accusing various groups and countries of being involved in acts of terrorism through Islamophobia by promoting its nationalist spirit. This research aims to explore the side of nationalism that can contribute to the rise of Islamophobia and terrorism in the United States. The methods used in this study are historical methods and radical hermeneutics with a qualitative approach. The September 11, 2001, attacks in the United States indicate the existence of four stages that affect the development of Islamophobia and terrorism in the United States, namely: Events that create deep fear and trauma in American society, agents and mass media who began to spread fear excessively, so that the American people increasingly felt threatened and sought protection, the emergence of a figure who is considered a savior by the people of the United States, who then instigates other groups with the spirit of nationalism so that there is a division in the society of the United States; and the incited people of the United States began to demand revenge against a person or group, namely Muslims.

Abstract

Changes in lifestyles and increased access to digital media and online marketing have caused adolescents in society to become more vulnerable to the influence of advertising and marketing strategies designed according to their desires and preferences. Psychological aspects, such as individual personality, attitudes, values, and motivations play an important role in determining adolescents' responses to advertising on social media. This study aims to analyze the extent to which advertisements that appear on social media affect adolescent behavior in making purchase decisions. The method used in this study is qualitative research equipped with literature review and interviews, with a location in Pesantren District, Kediri City. Some of the reasons that make teenagers interested in buying products advertised on social media include ratings, positive comments, availability of funds, discount offers, and attractive price promotions. This causes teenagers to feel interested in advertisements on social media. Therefore, it is important to engage advertising ethics, religious values, and educational institutions in an effort to prevent misleading, dishonest, or even potentially harmful advertising.

Abstract

Local history often receives little attention from the general public as well as historical researchers. However, local history has the ability to influence national history and even global history. One example of local history that has the potential to shape national history is the event that occurred on December 12, 1962 in the city of Limbang, Sarawak. This event became one of the triggers for the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation between 1963 and 1966, especially the involvement of the British in the city. This research aims to dig deeper into the role of the British in Limbang City on December 12, 1962. The method used in this study is a historical method with a qualitative approach. The British involvement in the city of Limbang on that date was to rescue the hostages captured by the TNKU (Tentara Nasional Kalimantan Utara). Most of the hostages were residents of Kampung Pemukat loyal to the Federation of Malaya and were kidnapped by groups that supported the incorporation of Sarawak, Brunei, and Sabah into Indonesia. The rescue action carried out by the British succeeded in freeing the prisoners in Limbang City on December 12, 1962, which resulted in a failure for the TNKU. The failure of the TNKU actually triggered tensions between Indonesia and Malaysia, which ultimately contributed to the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation between 1963 and 1966.

Abstract

Freedom of the press is a basic principle that affirms that communication and expression through various channels, including publications, must be seen as a right that can be exercised without restrictions. However, during the Old Order period (1950-1965), the condition of the press in Indonesia fluctuated. This research aims to explore more deeply about press freedom in the Old Order era. The method used in this study is a historical method with a qualitative approach. In 1950-1956, the Indonesian press enjoyed a significant degree of freedom, where they could criticize the government through the print media. However, starting in 1956, signs of a decline in press freedom began to be seen, caused by the Old Order government's discomfort with criticism made by the press. In 1958, the government began to control the press by requiring a Printing Permit. When President Soekarno consolidated his power and began the era of guided democracy (1959-1965), press freedom in Indonesia effectively ended. This resulted in the press being under the control of Sukarno's power, although the press succeeded in overthrowing the power after the G30S incident in 1965.

Abstract

The discovery of the Binatbát na Tansô ng Laguna inscription in 1989 has significantly altered perspectives on the historical and prehistoric periods within Philippine historiography, as well as on the influence of external cultures on the development of cultural practices in the Philippine archipelago during the precolonial era. The inscription was composed in Old Malay and incorporates several lexical items from Old Javanese, indicating the influence of Old Malay and Old Javanese cultures during the precolonial period in the Philippines. The Binatbát na Tansô ng Laguna was issued by the Kingdom of Tondo in the year 900 CE (822 Saka). This study aims to examine the life of the people of the Tondo Kingdom in the 9th century through the lens of the Binatbát na Tansô ng Laguna inscription. The research employed historical methods with a qualitative approach. The inscription reflects a complex society with a hierarchical structure, as evidenced by titles such as senāpati and references to debt forgiveness, indicating the existence of an established legal and economic framework. From a linguistic perspective, the Binatbát na Tansô ng Laguna reveals substantial influence from Old Malay and Old Javanese cultures, particularly through the use of Old Javanese script and Sanskrit loanwords, suggesting strong trade and diplomatic interactions with other kingdoms such as Śrīvijaya and Medang. The term sang pamgat mḍang clearly links Tondo to the Medang Kingdom, while senāpati di tuṇḍu underscores Tondo’s local adaptation of administrative concepts originating from beyond the Philippine archipelago.
