Abstract

Objective: This research aims to analyse the differences in Grade Point Average (GPA) between students who study while working and those who do not, their level of amotivation, and the interaction of employment status with amotivation among economics education students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Method: This research is a comparative quantitative study using simple random sampling on economics education students from the fifth to the seventh semester, with a total of 177 students. The analysis technique uses Chi-Square and Odds Ratio with the assistance of SPSS software. Results: Research results indicate that there is no difference in the proportion of academic achievement risk between students who work and those who do not. However, there is a difference in the proportion of risk to academic achievement between students with high and low levels of amotivation. Students with high amotivation are more likely to experience a decline in academic achievement. Meanwhile, no difference was found in the proportion of risk to academic achievement between students who work and have high amotivation and students who do not work and have low amotivation. These findings suggest that the amotivation factor has a stronger influence on academic achievement than whether or not a student works. Novelty: The combination of two contexts, namely the employment status of students and amotivation towards academic achievement, represents a conceptual innovation and focuses on economics education students who have never been studied before. This provides a broader contribution.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the development of the consumption behavior model for Academic Achievement Scholarship (AAS) grantees in the Faculty of Economics in Indonesia. This research was quantitative. Samples were taken from six major universities in the region, which spanned three major Indonesian islands, and included a total of 238 students from the Faculty of Economics in Indonesia who received the AAS Scholarship. Methods of data collection include the use of questionnaires, which are analyzed using SEM-PLS. The data demonstrated that economic literacy did not affect consumptive behaviour, hedonic conformity exerted a positive and meaningful influence on consumptive behaviour, self-control was found to positively and significantly influence consumptive behaviour, economic literacy and hedonic conformity had a negative and significant effect on self-control, and self-control can mediate the effect of economic literacy on consumptive behaviour. Self-control can also mediate the effect of hedonic conformity on consumptive behaviour. The implication is that self-control mediates the relationship between economic literacy and hedonic conformity in consumptive behavior. This research investigates the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between economic literacy, hedonic conformity, and consumption behavior, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the factors influencing consumption patterns among scholarship recipients.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to changes in consumption habits and irrational consumption, which also exhibit a strong tendency towards family economic education (FEE) in shaping student economic behavior and economic irrationality (IR). The novelty of this study lies in the exploration of the relationship between FEE and students’ economic behavior mediated by basic economic (BE) understanding, which is still under-explored in the context of economic education in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative approach with structural equation modeling (SEM). A total of 385 students of economics or economic education study programs are spread across 38 provinces in Indonesia. The finding of the research indicate that FEE has a significant but relatively weak positive effect on students’ BE understanding. In addition, FEE directly increases students’ irrationality, as well as BE understanding, which also turns out to contribute positively to such irrational behavior. This finding implicitly shows that the delivery of intensive FEE information does not always have a positive impact but can actually strengthen IR in students. Thus, this study emphasizes the need for a more careful and selective approach in FEE to reduce students’ irrational behavior.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the role of green product attributes and healthy lifestyle orientation in shaping consumer trust toward healthy instant food brands in East Java and Bali. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research design was employed using a survey method. Data were collected from 193 consumers in East Java and Bali and analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, and multiple linear regression analysis with a five-point Likert scale. Findings: The results indicate that green product attributes and healthy lifestyle orientation have positive and significant effects on consumer trust, both partially and simultaneously. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited by its sample size and geographical focus on Java–Bali, which may restrict generalizability. Practical implications: The findings suggest that healthy instant food brands should emphasize credible green product attributes and align brand values with consumers’ healthy lifestyles to strengthen trust. Originality/value: This study positions consumer trust as a central outcome by integrating signaling theory, trust theory, and value congruence theory in the context of healthy instant food brands.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines how cognitive and emotional drivers jointly shape online purchase decisions in live-streaming social commerce, focusing on consumers’ real-time decision-making experiences. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative descriptive–interpretive approach was employed using in-depth semi-structured interviews with consumers who had made purchases through live-streaming sessions. Data were analyzed thematically using NVivo to identify dominant cognitive and emotional patterns. Findings: The findings reveal that purchase decisions are formed through the simultaneous interaction of rapid cognitive evaluations (information clarity, perceived value, trust) and emotional triggers (FOMO and parasocial interaction), with platform affordances accelerating this process. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited by a small sample size and a single-country context, which may restrict generalizability. Practical implications: The results suggest that live-streaming strategies should balance emotional engagement with credible information to sustain trust and satisfaction. Originality/value: This study offers an integrated cognitive–emotional perspective on live-streaming purchase decisions.

Abstract

Objective: This research seeks to identify the factors that potentially influence income inequality from the perspective of welfare (Human Development Index/HDI), economic factors (economic growth), and demographics (population) in the cities of Malang, Madiun, and Surabaya. Method: This study was conducted using a quantitative panel data regression method over the period 2020-2024, using Gretl software. Results: This study’s findings indicate that HDI has a positive and massive impact on income inequality. Economic growth has no significant effect, while population has a negative and big implication on income inequality. These results imply local government policies related to the equitable distribution of HDI, optimisation of economic growth, and the creation of job opportunities. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its focus on areas classified as cities by the central statistics agency in East Java, which face issues of income inequality, specifically the cities of Malang, Madiun, and Surabaya which have never been studied based on the most recent year.
