Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of Islamophobia and negative stereotypes toward Islam in West Borneo, Indonesia, using a phenomenological and qualitative approach. Informants included religious leaders, community leaders, and non-Muslim students. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and analyzed using content analysis. Findings reveal that Islamophobia in West Borneo is a real, though subtle, issue that has yet to significantly disrupt social life. Contributing factors include limited understanding of Islam, persistent negative stereotypes, and biased media coverage. Addressing this issue requires a collaborative effort involving government, communities, media, and educational institutions. Effective strategies include inclusive education, interfaith dialogue, accurate media representation, inter-community cooperation, and supportive public policy promoting tolerance and diversity. While this study is limited in scope, it highlights the presence of Islamophobia and its potential to influence social dynamics. Recognizing that the severity and prevalence of Islamophobia may vary by region, further comprehensive and contextual research is essential to fully understand and mitigate its impact in West Borneo and beyond.   Keywords : : Islamophobia; Social Conflict; Negative Stereotypes.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively examine the long-term and short-term effects of foreign direct investment, domestic investment, Human Development Index (HDI), and minimum wage on economic growth in West Kalimantan over the 1996–2023 period, with a primary focus on the COVID-19 pandemic era. The pandemic has severely impacted regional economic stability, and West Kalimantan, a resource-based province, has experienced significant shocks. A quantitative approach was applied using time series analysis with Vector Autoregression (VAR), Granger Causality Test, Johansen Cointegration Test, and Impulse Response Function (IRF). Secondary data were obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), and other governmental sources. The findings indicate that all variables significantly affect economic growth in both the short and long term. Domestic investment and HDI contribute positively and consistently, while foreign investment exhibits high volatility. Minimum wage has a negative impact in the short term but turns positive in the medium term. The study provides strategic policy recommendations to strengthen the regional economic foundation through human capital development, domestic investment enhancement, and productivity-based wage policies. The implications are relevant for post-pandemic policy formulation and enhancing regional economic resilience against future crises.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of the social and academic roles of H. Muhammad Basuni Imran in the development of Islamic education and community empowerment. As one of the most influential scholars in West Kalimantan, Basuni Imran made significant contributions to advancing Islamic education and shaping the socio-religious character of the Sambas community. This research employs a qualitative method with a historical approach through the examination of archives, documents, his published works, and relevant supporting literature. The findings indicate that Basuni Imran successfully integrated these two strategic roles in a harmonious manner. As an academic and Islamic thinker, he promoted curriculum reform, strengthened scholarly traditions, and emphasized the balance between rational knowledge and spiritual values. In his social role, he actively nurtured religious life, reinforced social solidarity (ukhuwah), and mobilized community initiatives grounded in Islamic values. The synergy between these dual roles positions Basuni Imran as a transformational scholar who contributed not only to intellectual development but also to the moral, cultural, and socio-economic empowerment of the community.
