Abstract

The compatibility of Islam and Pancasila, the Indonesia’s national philosophy, is still interesting to elaborate even though there have been numerous discussions on the theme. Notably, this paper addresses the harmony of Pancasila and Islam as the umbrella for nationhood and statehood in Indonesia. The writers argue that Pancasila and Islam coexist harmoniously in Indonesia, and this kind of harmony is a valuable esteem to reinforce unity, diversity, and cultural heritage within the society. The acculturation of Pancasila is an effort to integrate its values into daily life through traditions and practices involving various stakeholders. This acculturation will encourage acceptance of diversity and prevent religious extremism. On the other hand, conflicts between political Islam and nationalist groups in Indonesia affect cultural-religious expressions and disrupt harmony. Pancasila is vital in addressing these conflicts and promoting diversity and ongoing dialogues.[Kesesuaian Islam dan Pancasila sebagai falsafah bangsa Indonesia masih menarik untuk dijabarkan meski sudah banyak pembahasan mengenai tema tersebut.

Abstract

The diversity of ethnicities, cultures, and religions in Indonesian society is an undeniable fact. This diversity, of course, results in differences. These differences, if not properly managed, can lead to conflict. When the essence of tolerance like respecting other people’s differences as we embrace our own is upheld, this source of conflict and division in society can be prevented. The aim of this study is to identify and explain the tolerance values of the Dayak people, the social relations in their society, and the factors that prevent the preservation of religious tolerance based on the experience of the Dayak people of Lubuk Kakap Village. This research employed a qualitative research design with a phenomenological research method. Interviews and documentation were data collection procedures while data reduction, data display, and data verification are used as data analysis activities. The credibility (internal validity), transferability (external validity), dependability (reliability), and confirmability of the data in this research were used as data validity testing. Based on the findings of the study, the tolerance values documented the life of the Dayak community of Lubuk Kakap Village are respect, appreciation of religion, belief and culture in social relations. The Dayak people interact in meetings and communal work which is called gotong royong. The Dayak people believe that the factors that prevent religious tolerance include small or big conflicts and individual disputes.

Abstract

This research aims to explore pluralism in West Kalimantan, a paradoxical place in Indonesia, where multi-religious and multi-ethnic people meet. For social researchers, this situation is unique because, on the one hand, West Kalimantan is known as a conflict-prone area in Indonesia. On the other hand, part of its territory, namely the Singkawang area, is called the most tolerant area. Previous researchers assumed this situation was false because conflicts between religious and ethnic groups still occur frequently. However, the communication strategies and social interactions by ethnic groups in this area have rarely been investigated. The role of the Chinese Muslim group is significant in bringing about harmonization between the polarised groups. Chinese Muslims have provided a link that is socially very instrumental in deconstructing the firm ethnic and religious group identities and boundaries. Although they seem to form their own identity, two sides of that identity are related to religious groups and ethnic groups. Their presence thus balances inter-group communications and interactions. In conclusion, theoretically, the presence of the Chinese Muslim community in West Kalimantan breaks the ice of identity and becomes a bridge of communication between communities.

Abstract

This article discusses the variant of Islam that lives in a multicultural society in the Sungai Ambawang area in the suburbs of Pontianak City, West Kalimantan. In the Javanese, Bugis, Malay and Madurese communities, Islam has served as an important element in the formation of their cultural identity, thus causing them to be synonymous with the Islamic community. Islamic elements that are used and have become part of the culture of society include the choice of Islamic dates such as the Hijri month in determining the time of cultural activities, the use of Al-fitihah and several other verses from the Qur’an as well as shalawat and prayer, the use of mosques as a center of cultural activities and the involvement of Islamic religious leaders in traditional ceremonies. The use of these elements has become a hallmark of the community culture and its form has been preserved until today.

Abstract

This article discusses the strategic role of teacher mentoring in encouraging innovation in children's learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Takhasus Al-Qur'an Sintang. This research is motivated by the need to create an active, participatory, and relevant learning process with student characteristics. The results of the study show that teachers provide mentoring through various innovative approaches, such as group learning, providing opportunities for students to re-present the material, and encouraging students to ask questions actively. This approach is in line with the theory of constructivism and social learning which emphasizes the importance of student interaction and involvement in the learning process. However, teachers also face challenges in the mentoring process, including delays in students' understanding of the material, uneven reading skills, and easily distracted student concentration. These obstacles require teachers to be more adaptive and creative in managing learning. The conclusion of this article emphasizes that teacher mentoring that is carried out continuously and innovatively is an important key in improving the quality of learning, as well as forming students' learning characters who are more independent and critical.

Abstract

This article discusses the transcendental communication of the Ulu Kapuas Muslim community, which is represented in the oral tradition of Ulak Manah. Through a descriptive qualitative method that focuses on analyzing the story of the Umung Putri Raja and the Shaman Agreement with the crocodile king, this study found that the Ulu Kapuas Muslim community believed that there was a familial relationship between humans and descendants of crocodiles. This tradition is manifested in the tradition of buang-buang, maintaining relationships and descent, as well as reminding of promises owed. Preservation of these traditions forms transcendental communication between human descendants and crocodile offspring in Ulak Manah.
