Abstract

This study aims to understand how to analyse the language corpus and be able to apply it properly and to improve the Arabic vocabulary of new students of UIN Jakarta majoring in Arabic Language Education (PBA) through the application of sketch engine. The application of sketch engine in learning Arabic vocabulary is still very rarely applied. This sketch engine is the first time applied to new students of UIN Jakarta in the special guidance of al-'Arabiyah al-Mukasyafah. The research method used is descriptive method with qualitative approach (field research). While data collection techniques are done by observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, there are three stages carried out; 1) presentation of conceptual material 2) presentation of skill material 3) evaluation of activities 4) reflection of activities. From these four stages, students are able to apply their applicative knowledge in using the sketch engine. All students who were divided into 4 groups were able to follow the steps of corpus analysis very well through reports in the form of working papers. In addition, the application of this sketch engine is able to increase students' Arabic vocabulary skills through finding word collocations and finding various meanings that fit the vocabulary.

Abstract

The application of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the Kurikulum Merdeka at MTs Pembangunan Jakarta aims to enhance students' critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills, particularly in Arabic language learning. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and document analysis. The research subjects include Arabic language teachers and students involved in HOTS-based learning processes. The findings indicate that the strategy for designing HOTS questions involves a text-based analysis approach, group discussions, and collaborative projects, which are effective in stimulating students' critical thinking. Teachers also use interactive learning media, such as videos and case studies, to encourage students to connect Arabic language knowledge with real-life contexts. Despite challenges such as time constraints and students' adaptation to HOTS questions, the overall implementation of HOTS demonstrates positive impacts on improving students' linguistic and cognitive abilities. The steps for designing Arabic language questions based on HOTS in this school include determining learning objectives, selecting question types, defining the level of difficulty, integrating HOTS, designing the question concept, drafting the questions, utilizing supporting media, conducting validation and trials, and providing assessment and feedback.

Abstract

This study examined the development and implementation of a competency-based Arabic curriculum in Indonesian madrasahs and its implications for students’ learning independence. Employing a qualitative case study design complemented by a descriptive student survey, data were collected through interviews with teachers and principals, classroom observations, and student responses. The findings demonstrated that the curriculum significantly enhanced students’ motivation, enjoyment, and comprehension of Arabic, with 85% reporting greater motivation, 80% increased enjoyment, and 75% improved understanding. Teachers and principals affirmed that the competency-based approach facilitated the design of more relevant materials, clearer assessments, and adaptive teaching strategies, while observations revealed more dynamic student engagement and collaborative learning. Integrating the principles of Merdeka Belajar, the curriculum promoted learner autonomy and contextualized language use, though challenges remained in addressing diverse learning styles and teacher readiness. The study highlighted the novelty of explicitly linking linguistic proficiency with critical thinking, cultural literacy, and real-world application within a faith-based educational context. These insights not only enrich discussions on competency-based education in Islamic schools but also provide a practical model adaptable to other Muslim-majority countries and multilingual environments.

Abstract

Background: Arabic language education has undergone significant development from the classical period to the modern era, where various traditional methods and learning philosophies were applied to strengthen language understanding and Islamic values. However, in the era of globalization, innovative approaches are needed to address the needs of the current generation who tend to be more dynamic and familiar with digital technology. Aims: This research aims to analyze the historical traces of Arabic language education to identify effective learning elements in the past and evaluate their potential adaptation in modern learning design. Methods: This research used a literature study-based qualitative approach with a narrative systematic review type to find methods such as halaqah, muhadatsah (dialogue), and memorization-based approaches that remain relevant but require integration with modern technology, such as digital applications and online learning platforms. Results: The findings showed that combining historical elements with technological innovations can create learning methods, models, and media that not only retain the depth of language and cultural understanding but also attract younger generations. Thus, learning designs that combine traditional and innovative aspects are expected to increase the effectiveness of Arabic language learning in the era of globalization and expand its accessibility. Implications: The results of this study can serve as a reference for educational institutions and curriculum developers in designing Arabic learning approaches that are more adaptive and effective in the present.

Abstract

This study addresses students’ difficulties in learning Arabic due to the limited relevance of existing textbooks. Using Chomsky’s Transformative-Generative Grammar Theory (TGT) as an analytical framework, the research explores the application of singular transformation rules in the ninth-grade Arabic textbook published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Chomsky’s theory, which emphasizes grammatical structure and transformation processes, is applied to improve students’ grammatical and communicative competence. Employing a qualitative descriptive design with a library-based approach, the study identifies six transformation rules: elimination, expansion, addition, change of order, replacement, and abbreviation. The findings indicate that integrating TGT into Arabic instruction through methods such as the Direct Method can enhance students’ grammatical understanding and vocabulary mastery. The study suggests that future research examine other linguistic aspects of similar textbooks to further strengthen the pedagogical application of linguistic theory in Arabic learning.
