Abstract

This study aims to study the interaction between NPK doses and types of ameliorant on the growth and yield of red chili plants and to obtain the optimum dose of NPK for each type of ameliorant that gives maximum yield of red chili. The experiment was conducted in the experimental garden of Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency from September to December 2021. The method used in this study was verification with an experimental approach using the Split Plot Design (SPD) consisting of two treatment factors. The first factor as the main plot was pearl NPK Fertilizer (N) which consisted of 3 treatment levels namely n1 (5 g L-1), n2 (7.5 g L-1), and n3 (10 g L-1). The second factor was the type of ameliorant (P) as a subplot consisting of 3 treatment levels, namely p0 (without ameliorant), p1 (amelioran 4 tons Ha-1), p2 (bioamelioran 4 tons Ha-1) so that there were 9 combinations of treatments each in repeat 3 times. There was an interaction between NPK dose and type of ameliorant on growth (plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter 3 and 4 WAP, root length 5 WAP and root decay ratio) and yield of chili plants (fruit weight per plant).

Abstract

Abstract

Cilembu sweet potato farmers' dependence on synthetic chemical pesticides raises concerns about their impact on health, the environment, and agricultural sustainability. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to empower farmers through education and training in the production of biopesticides from locally sourced plants. Implementation methods include outreach, demonstrations of biopesticide production from materials such as neem and soursop leaves, and hands-on field training. The results of the activities indicate an increase in farmers' understanding and skills in utilizing biopesticides as an environmentally friendly pest control alternative. The program concludes that education and utilization of locally sourced plant-based biopesticides have proven effective as a practical solution to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides while simultaneously supporting sustainable agriculture for Cilembu sweet potato farmers.

Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda is a newly emerging pest species attacking maize crops by damaging the plant whorl, thereby disrupting the growth point of the plant. The use of biological control agents, particularly the bioinsecticide Bacillus thuringiensis, represents one of the alternative strategies to manage S. frugiperda infestations. This study aimed to investigate the morphological characteristics and developmental changes of S. frugiperda following the application of the bioinsecticide B. thuringiensis. The experiment was conducted at the Basic Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Winaya Mukti University, from August to September 2023. The experimental design employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments with six replications. The concentrations of the B. thuringiensis bioinsecticide were as follows: A = 0.00 g/L of water (control); B = 0.125 g/L of water; C = 0.25 g/L of water; D = 0.50 g/L of water; and E = 1.00 g/L of water. The results showed that the concentration of B. thuringiensis at 1.00 g/L significantly affected the morphology and development of S. frugiperda, as indicated by increased feed consumption loss, average larval weight, larval length, head capsule width, and larval mortality, which reached up to 90.00%. In addition, this concentration significantly influenced the percentage of pupae formation and the percentage of adult emergence.
