Abstract

Mathematical representation is a fundamental ability to develop students' thinking skills. But in reality, this ability is still low. The investigation aims to ascertain the impact of CPA-based articulated storyline multimedia on the Mathematical Representation Abilities (MRA) of elementary school students. The research uses CPA-based articulate storyline multimedia in learning activities. A type of experimental research with pre-experimental designs, one group pretest-posttest. 44 pupils from one of Karawang Regency's elementary schools in West Java made up the sample. Data were obtained through MRA tests in the form of descriptions, students' daily journals, interviews, and photo documentation of research activities. The MRA test questions used were valid and reliable. Based on Guilford's criteria, the results of the test validity and reliability calculation are in the high category (Retrieved from zero point eighty-four). Descriptive data analysis was conducted by finding the simple linear regression equation and the coefficient of determination. Inferential data analysis was performed with a t-test. Descriptive results showed that using CPA-based multimedia articulated storyline affected the Mathematical Representation ability (MRA) of elementary school students. Based on hypothesis testing, it is known that CPA-based articulate storyline multimedia significantly affects the mathematical representation skills of elementary school pupils. The implication from research is that multimedia articulate storylines based on CPA represent alternatives for enhancing elementary school pupils' mathematical representation ability in learning two-dimensional mathematics.

Abstract

This quantitative study investigates the impact of screen time on social activities among primary school students, specifically focusing on Grade 6 students' participation in sports and scouting. In an era dominated by digital technology, concerns have been raised regarding the potential effects of increased screen time on the physical and social development of children. To address this issue, the study employs a quantitative research approach, examining the relationship between screen time duration and involvement in traditional extracurricular activities. A sample of 116 Grade 6 pupils is selected for the study from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, using a quota sampling method. A survey questions is utilized for data collection.  Through rigorous data analysis, the study aims to draw evidence-based conclusions regarding the influence of screen time on social activities. The findings are can provide insights for parents, educators, and policymakers, shedding light on the complex relationship between digital technology usage and traditional extracurricular involvement. In the end, the study ultimately seeks to contribute practical recommendations to promote a balanced and healthy lifestyle for young learners in the digital age. By addressing potential negative effects of excessive screen time on students' participation in essential social and physical activities, the research aims to guide strategies for a more wholesome educational experience during their school years

Abstract

Science literacy skills have a very important role in science learning because students are required to be able to solve problems by utilizing technology. The low level of science literacy in Indonesia is the basis for this research. The objectives of this study were: 1) Knowing the effect of the STEM approach on improving the science literacy of elementary school students; 2) Knowing and analyzing the improvement of science literacy skills of students who get learning with the STEM approach better than students who get learning with conventional approaches. The research method used in this research is Quasi Experimental Design with the form of Non-equivalent Control Group Design which involves two classes in its implementation and is given different treatments in learning science with the subject matter of Changes in the Form of Objects with a subject of 43 students. The instrument used to obtain data before and after learning is a science literacy test instrument. Based on the research conducted, the conclusions were obtained; 1) There is an effect of STEM approach on science literacy skills of fourth grade students. 2) There is an increase in science literacy skills of students who get learning with the STEM approach better than students who get learning with conventional approaches.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model, supplemented by Scratch media, on elementary students' understanding of Natural Science (IPA) concepts. The study addresses the critical issue of inadequate comprehension of IPA concepts among students, as highlighted in prior research. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with both pretest and posttest assessments, fourth-grade students from an elementary school in West Jakarta were divided into two groups: an experimental group implementing TGT with Scratch and a control group engaged in traditional collaborative learning. The results indicated a significant improvement in the experimental group, which achieved an average posttest score of 85.00, in contrast to 74.00 in the control group, with a p-value of 0.01. These findings suggest that the TGT model, when integrated with Scratch media, enhances students' understanding of IPA concepts. This study advocates for the broader implementation of this instructional approach to foster better comprehension in science education.

Abstract

This study addresses the issue of low mathematical understanding among fifth-grade elementary students, emphasizing the necessity for innovative instructional methods that cater to diverse learning styles. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual (SAVI) approach, enhanced with flipbook media, in improving students’ mathematical comprehension compared to the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group structure, students were divided into an experimental group (SAVI approach) and a control group (CTL approach). Data were collected through pretest and posttest evaluations to assess learning gains. The findings revealed that students exposed to the SAVI approach achieved a higher average posttest score (74.25) than those taught using the CTL model (64.00), with statistical significance indicated by a p-value of 0.018. This study concludes that employing the SAVI method with flipbook support significantly enhances students' mathematical understanding compared to conventional contextual approaches. The implications of these results underscore the potential of integrating multisensory strategies and interactive media in elementary mathematics instruction to improve student learning outcomes. Further research is recommended to explore the application of the SAVI approach across various subjects and educational contexts to strengthen and broaden these findings.

Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) serves as a strategic framework for cultivating students’ character and ecological awareness from an early age. Primary school teachers hold a crucial role as change agents in embedding sustainability values within the learning process. This study aims to analyze elementary school teachers’ competencies in implementing ESD through the Tatanén di Bale Atikan (TdBA) approach and to examine its alignment with the Asia-Pacific ESD Teacher Competency Framework. Employing a descriptive quantitative method, data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–5) consisting of 15 competency indicators completed by 38 teachers from various elementary schools in Purwakarta Regency. The instrument encompassed three domains: Capacity to Create Learning, Capacity to Connect through Learning, and Capacity to Continue Learning. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings reveal that all indicators achieved an average score above 3.5, with percentage achievements ranging from 71.58% to 92.63%. Teachers demonstrated strong performance in the domains of Capacity to Create Learning and Capacity to Continue Learning. However, the Capacity to Connect through Learning domain requires further improvement, particularly in aspects of community engagement, cross-sectoral collaboration, and sustainable professional development. These findings highlight the importance of reinforcing community-based continuous professional development to ensure a more comprehensive and sustainable integration of ESD within school practicesKeywords: teacher competence, ESD, basic education, TdBA, sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by the Genially digital media on elementary school students’ critical thinking skills in Science and Social Science (IPAS) learning. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 23 fourth-grade students from SDN 1 Tegalmunjul Purwakarta in both the experimental and control classes. The research instrument was a Pretest and Posttest essay designed to assess five critical thinking indicators based on Ennis’ theory. The results showed that students taught using the Discovery Learning model with Genially media showed a significant improvement in critical thinking skills compared to those taught using the Cooperative Learning model. Data analysis using T-Tests and N-Gain scores indicated moderate to high improvement. It is concluded that the Discovery Learning model with Genially media is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills in IPAS learning.
