Abstract

Monitoring the quality and condition of waters is an importantactivity to carry out, especially in coastal waters which are veryeasily contaminated and prone to pollution. The waters of PasirMayang Beach are influenced by inputs from rivers and theactivities of coastal communities, which in turn affect the waterquality and aquatic organisms. The purpose of this study was todetermine the condition of water quality using seawater qualitystandards and map them spatially. Water quality parameterssurveyed included temperature, salinity, pH, oxygen level andbrightness which were measured at 17 survey locations. Thesurvey method used was direct data measurement and the datawas grouped into tabular form using Ms. Excel 2010 and theresults were compared and matched with seawater qualitystandards stipulated by the Minister of Environment RegulationNo. 51 of 2004. Spatial distribution was carried out using ArcGIS10.4 software and interpolated using the inverse distanceweighting (IDW) method. Measurement and analysis results wereobtained for temperature parameters between 30-31.6 °C.Salinity 11.3 to 21.7 ‰. pH 7.0-7.9;DO 2.1-3.6mg/L. Based onthe research results, the following conclusions can be drawn:Some of the seawater quality of Pasir Mayang Beach still meetsthe established quality standards, including temperature and pH,so that it can be further classified according to its function. However, there are several parameters that do not meet qualitystandards, namely: Salinity, DO and Clarity. For theeDOparameter, thereeareeseverallresearchhstationssthat are stillwithin or below the quality standard.

Abstract

Pineapple peel waste is an abundant agricultural residue that remains underutilized. This study aims to produce liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from pineapple peels using EM4 bioactivator, cow manure, rice-washing water, and palm sugar through a 30-day fermentation process. Fermentation performance was monitored via daily temperature and pH, along with nutrient content analysis including nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and organic carbon (C-organic). The results showed temperature ranged from 27.9–32.3°C and pH between 3.0–4.0, within the optimal range for microbial activity. However, nutrient concentrations of N (0.153%), P (0.116%), K (0.105%), and C-organic (1.58%) did not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 261/2019). This indicates that pineapple peel alone requires nutrient-rich additives to produce standard-compliant LOF. This study highlights the potential of pineapple peel waste as an eco-friendly LOF source, emphasizing the need for further formula optimization.

Abstract

Coastal waters are vital for aquatic life and human activities, yet their quality is highly susceptible to environmental pressures. Because macrozoobenthos are sensitive to environmental changes and have limited mobility, they are frequently utilized as bioindicators. This study aims to examine the structure of the macrozoobenthos community in the waters of Sungai Kakap Village, Kubu Raya Regency, and its relationship with environmental parameters. Samples were collected at five stations using purposive sampling with line transects and quadrants, then analyzed for density, diversity (H'), evenness (E), and dominance (C). A total of 14 species were found with distinct dominant patterns across stations, notably the high dominance of Neritina violacea, Corbicula fluminea, and Corbicula fluvitalis at Stations I, III, and V, respectively. Community structure analysis showed low diversity (H': 0.33–0.65) and high dominance (C: up to 0.84), suggesting a community structure dominated by a few species, leading to relatively low stability. Environmental parameters—temperature (30.1–31.7∘ C), salinity (0.50–3.00%), pH (5.45–7.58), and DO (3.77–7.51 mg/L)—were found to influence species distribution. These results confirm that macrozoobenthos is an effective bioindicator for water quality assessment in the Sungai Kakap area. The low community stability implies a need for consistent monitoring to prevent further degradation. Future research should focus on the impact of specific pollutants on these dominant species to support informed mangrove ecosystem management.

Abstract

Pelapis Island is part of the Karimata Islands which are located in North Kayong Regency, West Kalimantan. The island, which is located west of the Karimata Strait and close to the Karimata Islands Marine Nature Reserve, has tourism potential and abundant natural resources that can be utilized by the local community and the government. The cleanliness of the marine environment needs to be ensured in order to support sustainable economic continuity and support the tourism industry sector. This research aims to determine the density of marine debris using the shoreline survey method to determine the beach cleanliness index according to the clean-coast index (CCI), analysis of waste weight and type of waste was carried out at three stations spread across the coast of the island. The type of waste that dominates is wood with waste weight reaching 68% from the three stations. Plastic types with 21%, metal types with 7%, rubber types with 3% and then glass types with 1%. The beach cleanliness index measured at each research station showed different results. Based on the results of the CCI analysis, station 1 received a score of 35 and was included in the very dirty category, Statsuin 2 received a score of 12.96, which was included in the dirty category, a fairly low score at station 3, namely 4.04, which was included in the clean category. Overall, the results of data collection from three research stations show that Pelalui Island still has the potential to become a beach tourism destination by continuing to increase efforts to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
