Abstract

Coastal areas are characterized by complex dynamics between freshwater entering through the estuary from land and seawater from open water. This study aims to calculate the salinity anomaly found on the sandy coast of Mayang, estimate the number of fractions and the volume of mass transport of fresh water entering the waters through the river flow and measure the total dissolved solids (TDS) in the west season. Water mass characteristics data collection using Water Checker. The determination of 17 data collection stations is assumed to be representative in representing the overall condition of the research location. The results of the anomaly salinity calculation show the low anomalous salinity values that are distributed horizontally on the coast. The distribution of salinity as anomaly values transversely on lines 1 to 4 ranges from -1 to -15. Freshwater fraction is concentrated as far as 1.16 km from the coast of Pasir Mayang with concentration values ranging from 0.44% to 0.13%. The mass transport of fresh water in the Pasir Mayang coastal waters is 1,130 m3s -1. The value of the transport volume of fresh water depends on rainfall and the flow of fresh water through rivers and then into sea waters. The total dissolved solids at the study site at each station ranged from 7.88 ppm to 17.8 ppm.

Abstract

Benthic habitats provide a variety of functions, both ecological and economic, for life in coastal areas and small islands. Smart islands or smart islands are currently being implemented in a number of small island developing countries with one of the challenges being technology based. One technology that can be used in management, including monitoring and supervision of resources, is the Geographic Information System (GIS). The synergy of GIS data and the help of the latest multimedia software technology is necessary to help display an interactive and easily accessible, in this case, webGIS technology. This research was carried out on Lemukutan Island which consists of 6 research stations, each of which has a distribution of coral reef location points based on coordinates. Based on the results of the analysis of the percentage of benthic habitats in the study locations ranging from bad to good categories. Furthermore, the data from field observations and analysis results are displayed on the Lemukan Island smart island website and can be accessed at https://webgissmartisland.com. Regular monitoring of coral reefs is very important and needs to be done to help input data for Smart Island Lemukutan so that it becomes a catalyst in realizing a smart island ecosystem in West Kalimantan Province by providing benthic habitat maps via webgis services and actualizing technological development in coastal areas and small islands. smart island based through the smart destination concept by integrating benthic habitat information via WebGIS services.

Abstract

Monitoring the quality and condition of waters is an importantactivity to carry out, especially in coastal waters which are veryeasily contaminated and prone to pollution. The waters of PasirMayang Beach are influenced by inputs from rivers and theactivities of coastal communities, which in turn affect the waterquality and aquatic organisms. The purpose of this study was todetermine the condition of water quality using seawater qualitystandards and map them spatially. Water quality parameterssurveyed included temperature, salinity, pH, oxygen level andbrightness which were measured at 17 survey locations. Thesurvey method used was direct data measurement and the datawas grouped into tabular form using Ms. Excel 2010 and theresults were compared and matched with seawater qualitystandards stipulated by the Minister of Environment RegulationNo. 51 of 2004. Spatial distribution was carried out using ArcGIS10.4 software and interpolated using the inverse distanceweighting (IDW) method. Measurement and analysis results wereobtained for temperature parameters between 30-31.6 °C.Salinity 11.3 to 21.7 ‰. pH 7.0-7.9;DO 2.1-3.6mg/L. Based onthe research results, the following conclusions can be drawn:Some of the seawater quality of Pasir Mayang Beach still meetsthe established quality standards, including temperature and pH,so that it can be further classified according to its function. However, there are several parameters that do not meet qualitystandards, namely: Salinity, DO and Clarity. For theeDOparameter, thereeareeseverallresearchhstationssthat are stillwithin or below the quality standard.
