Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) is one of the food crops that is needed to meet food needs. Efforts to increase the quantity and quality of sweet corn can be done through fertilization. To ensure that sweet corn's nutritional requirements for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) are met, fertilizer such as NPK can be applied. This research aims to analyze the effect of various doses of NPK fertilizer on the growth and yield of sweet corn. The research was carried out at the Ciparanje Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor, Sumedang, from November 2023 to March 2024. The research used a Complete Randomized Block Design (RAK) with ten treatments and three replications. The treatments given include: Control (without N, P, K), Standard N, P, K (Urea, SP-36, and KCl), and NPK fertilizer with varying doses (¼, ½, ¾, 1, 1 ¼, 1 ½ , 1 ¾, and 2). The research results showed that the application of NPK compound fertilizer had a significant effect on growth parameters, yield components and sweet corn yield. Meanwhile, the most effective dose in increasing plant yields was H treatment (1 ½ doses of NPK).

Abstract

This study investigates the microbial populations during different coffee fermentation processes and their impact on coffee quality. Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and endophytic populations in coffee beans undergoing natural saccharic and natural lactic fermentation remained unchanged compared to fresh coffee beans. However, a notable increase in Bacillus population occurred in honey saccharic fermentation, possibly attributed to the high sugar content in the mucilage, supporting bacterial growth. Additionally, the introduction of Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces during fermentation enhanced sugar consumption and influenced the final coffee quality, particularly aroma profile and nutritional composition. Varietal differences were observed, with Bacillus population decreasing slightly post-fermentation, especially in honey saccharic and natural lactic processes. This decline may be attributed to the dominance of Saccharomyces and Lactobacillus, antagonistic to Bacillus, and the fermentation conditions leading to decreased pH, unfavorable for Bacillus. These findings highlight the intricate microbial interactions and their implications for coffee fermentation and quality.

Abstract

This study assesses the impact of adding phosphate and boron in a mixed liquid fertilizer (MLF)  on the growth and yield of red chili plants cultivated in a subsoil environment. The experiment was conducted to comprehend how these nutrients affect the performance of red chili plants, particularly when cultivated in less ideal conditions such as subsoil, a remnant of excavation for brick production. The research was carried out at the Ciparanje Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran. The research design employed a Randomized Completely Block Design with the following treatments: A = Control (degraded soil without fertilizer), B = 0% MLF + 1 NPK, C = 0.25% MLF + 1 NPK, D = 0.50% MLF + 1 NPK, E = 0.75% MLF + 1 NPK, F = 1.00% MLF + 1 NPK, G = 0.5% MLF + 3/4 NPK, H = 0.5% MLF + 1/2 NPK, I = 0.5% MLF + 1/4 NPK, J = 0.5% MLF + 0 NPK, and K = 1 NPK in normal soil. The results revealed that the addition of phosphate and boron in MLF significantly influenced the growth and yield of red chili in subsoil conditions. The recommended MLF concentration was 0.75%, alongside the standard NPK dose. These findings provide crucial insights for the development of more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices, especially in challenging soil conditions like subsoil, where nutrient availability can be a determining factor for agricultural success.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the most effective type and dosage of nitrogen fertilizer in cocoa nurseries and to evaluate the level of nitrogen absorption by cocoa seedlings with various types and dosages of nitrogen fertilizer. This study was conducted at the Experimental House of the Plantation Crop Cultivation Study Program, Pontianak State Polytechnic. The method used was a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK). The experiment consisted of 10 treatments, each repeated 3 (three) times, resulting in a total of 30 experimental units. Each unit consisted of two plants, resulting in a total of 60 plants. The parameters observed in this study included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, plant fresh weight, plant dry weight, and nitrogen absorption. The type and dosage of nitrogen fertilizer significantly affected plant height, leaf area, and nitrogen absorption. The highest nitrogen absorption rate in cocoa plants was obtained with nitrate fertilizer at a dose of 2.07 g N, resulting in an absorption value of 10.51%. Urea, ZA, and Calcium Nitrate fertilizers at a dose of 1.38 g N were found to be the most effective and recommended, as the use of smaller amounts of fertilizers produced results that were not significantly different compared to the use of Urea, ZA, and Calcium Nitrate at a dose of 2.07 g N.

Abstract

Fertilization is a key factor in enhancing crop productivity, primarily through the provision of essential nutrients. The application of compound fertilizers containing macronutrients, either as an alternative or a complement to single-nutrient fertilizers, is expected to improve fertilization efficiency and support sustainable crop yields. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of combining macronutrient NPK compound fertilizer with single-nutrient fertilizers—nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K)—on plant growth and yield, as well as to determine the optimal dosage. The experiment was conducted from December 2024 to April 2025 using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with nine treatments and three replications. The treatments included: a control (no fertilizer), single NPK fertilizers (300 kg/ha Urea, 150 kg/ha SP-36, 100 kg/ha KCl), combinations of NPK with compound fertilizer at different dosages (½, 1, and 1½), and compound fertilizer alone (4 L/ha). The results revealed that the combination of N, P, and K with compound fertilizer significantly enhanced plant growth and yield. Among all treatments, treatment E (NPK + 1½ doses of compound fertilizer) resulted in the highest maize yield

Abstract

The growth of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) seedlings in peat soil media often faces challenges due to the low nutrient content and less favorable chemical properties of the soil. This study aims to analyze the effect of applying areca nut husk compost and urea fertilizer on the growth of areca nut seedlings in peat soil media. The research was conducted using a factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor was the dosage of compost (K) with five levels: 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1 kg. The second factor was the dosage of urea fertilizer (N) with four levels: 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 g. The results showed no interaction between the application of areca nut husk compost and urea fertilizer on plant height, stem diameter, and the number of leaves. However, the independent effect of areca nut husk compost significantly influenced the increase in height, stem base diameter, and the number of leaves in areca nut seedlings. Urea fertilizer had a significant effect on the increase in plant height and stem base diameter but did not significantly affect the increase in the number of leaves. The best application dosage for areca nut husk compost was 1 kg, which resulted in the greatest increase in plant height, stem diameter, and the number of leaves. The best urea fertilizer dosage for plant height increase was 4.5 g, while a dosage of 3 g produced the best increase in stem base diameter.

Abstract

These chemical residues affect the natural balance of soil biota, leading to a decrease in soil pH, areduction in Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), and a general decline in land productivity. If not treatedpromptly, this damage could harm health and food sustainability. The application of eco-friendlyproducts in modifying soil characteristics, including high-quality zeolite, remains common today. Thisstudy aims to examine the effects of zeolite application on the dynamics of soil chemical characteristicsto promote the development of a sustainable agricultural system. This study employed a RandomizedBlock Design (RBD) containing six different treatments such as five varying recommendation dosagesof zeolite (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5) and one control treatment devoid of zeolite for comparative analysis. Each treatment was reproduced three times, yielding a total of eighteen experimental plots. Soilchemical parameters (pH and CEC) are the primary focus of this experiment. The study's resultsindicated that during the last weeks of testing, applying 1.5 to 2 doses of zeolite proved to be the mostbeneficial, as it continuously raised the pH and CEC levels. Both Pearson and Spearman tests indicatethat the correlation between variables improves from first week to week fourth week. This suggeststhat the effects of the treatment, possibly zeolite application or an alternative treatment, start afterseveral weeks. The results of this investigation indicate that incubation time in zeolite applicationimportant for exhibits effective buffering properties and functions efficiently, significantly improvingthe chemical properties in soil.
