Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Quizizz application to improve the students’ vocabulary. The method used was quantitative with a pre-experimental research design with a sample of 30 students of class VIIC. In obtaining data, the researcher used pretest and posttest as instruments. The results of the data analysis showed that by using the Quizizz application, students’ vocabulary mastery increased. This is demonstrated by the fact that the t-test value is less than P (0.001 0.05), meaning that H0 in this research is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus, it was determined that using the Quizizz app to improve vocabulary mastery was effective for class VII. C students at SMP Negeri 1 Campalagian.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of the ELSA Speak application on students' English pronunciation development. The research design was pre-experimental. This research was taken place at UPT SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa. The participants of this research were the students of the 8A Multimedia, and the total population was 35 students. The researchers used a quantitative case study with a purposive sampling technique to select the participants. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, the researchers found that the ELSA Speak application was effective in developing students' English pronunciation. Based on the study's results, it is known that the post-test mean score (83.49) is greater than the pre-test means score (77.20). Based on the pre-test to post-test, the score of N-gain (normalized gain) is used to measure the improvement of science process skills and cognitive learning outcomes between before and after treatment is 5.5. This indicates that the ELSA Speak Application is quite effective in improving students' English pronunciation to be better.

Abstract

This research aims to find out English teachers’ perceptions of school readiness in using the Merdeka Curriculum. The subject of this research was two English teachers of SMAN 3 Makassar. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. An interview was used as the main instrument to collect the data. The results of this research showed that the two English teachers of SMAN 3 Makassar perceived that SMAN 3 Makassar is ready to use the Merdeka Curriculum due to: (1) SMAN 3 Makassar teachers already have a good understanding of the Merdeka curriculum., (2) the human resources strengthening of SMAN 3 Makassar teachers, and (3) the facilities/infrastructure at SMAN 3 Makassar to be used to fulfill their duty to strengthening students’ competence and developing character under the values of Pancasila. Moreover, the two English teachers tend to view the Merdeka Curriculum as what is needed for students in Indonesia due to its policies to make the students fulfill the Profil Pelajar Pancasila Project (P5), which are: (1) devoted to the Almighty God and possess noble character, (2) independent, (3) cooperative, (4) internationally diverse, (5) critical thinking, and (6) creative. Besides, the students can also choose the subjects that correspond with their interests.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine whether or not the use of crossword puzzle can increase the students’ spelling ability. This research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design. The population of this research was the grade VIII students of SMPN 1 TAMALATEA by using cluster random sampling with a population of 6 classes and the selected sample was grade 8.1 which amounted to 26 students. The data were collected through spelling tests carried out during the pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using t-test statistics with a significance value of 0.05. The results of the data analysis show a probability value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 is smaller than the significance value of 0.05. Therefore, this research rejects the null hypothesis (H0) and accepts the alternative hypothesis (H1). Based on these results, the researcher concludes that the use of crossword puzzle can increase students’ spelling ability at SMPN 1 TAMALATEA.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the improvement of students' speaking skills with guided conversation strategies. This research uses a pre-experimental method with data analysis using SPSS version 20.0. The respondents in this study consisted of 34 students from class VIII10 at UPT SPF SMP Negeri 17 Makassar. The results of this research show that guided conversation can improve students' speaking ability with an average (Mean) Post-test score of 16.38 with a standard deviation (data spread) from 2.456 to 3.201. This shows that guided conversation strategy can improve students' speaking ability. This can be seen from the results of the pre-test score which increased in the post-test results. The standard deviation value is smaller than the average value, so it can be concluded that the average value can represent all the data. The range of values on the Pre-test is 10 and on the Post-test 13. Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Furthermore, the description above shows that in the post-test results, there was an increase from the pre-test to the post-test. This shows that the application of guided conversation plays an important role in learning to speak.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not extensive reading can enhance students' vocabulary mastery at SMA Negeri 4 Sidrap. The research investigates how whether exposure to diverse texts aids in learning new words, improves retention, and enhances overall vocabulary skills. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-test and post-test method, was employed. The sample comprised 22 second-grade senior high school students from one class. Over four meetings, the students underwent treatments focused on vocabulary mastery, which involved receiving material from the researchers and engaging in reading comprehension activities. These activities included reading a passage, writing a reading report, discussing the text, and retelling what they had read. Data collection was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests administered after the treatment. The study's results indicated that extensive reading is significantly effective in enhancing students' vocabulary mastery. The data showed an improvement in students' scores from the pre-test to the post-test, with the mean pre-test scores indicating a low level of vocabulary mastery and the mean post-test scores indicating a satisfactory level of vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that extensive reading effectively enhances students' vocabulary mastery at SMA Negeri 4 Sidrap.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the teaching strategies applied by the teacher in teaching auxiliary verbs and also to know the students’ level of mastery of auxiliary verbs. The type of this research is descriptive with quantitative and qualitative data. The result of this research is based on the qualitative data the teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Mamasa applied a few strategies in teaching auxiliary verbs, they are problem-based learning, discovery learning or inquiry learning, and project-based learning. Besides that, based on the quantitative data, the students’ level of mastery is in the A2 level, 45% of the students are in the basic A2, 42,5% students are in the high basic A2, and 12,5 % in pre-intermediate B1 level of mastery it can be concluded that the students level of mastery of auxiliary verbs, most of the grade eight students at SMP Negeri 1 Mamasa still did not understand the auxiliary verbs well.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out The Techniques for Teaching EFL to Preschoolers of Kidsstar Makassar. This study research includes qualitative research with descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the research were three kindergarten teachers of Kidsstar Makassar. The data were collected using an interview. The researchers found that (1) techniques teaching EFL for preschoolers where fun learning includes, phonics, games, music and movement, reading aloud, and storytelling (2) constraints faced by teachers in applying several techniques in teaching EFL for preschoolers where learners lack self-confidence, learners lost controlled when playing games, learners miss understanding with the story, learners didn’t know how to pronounce.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether using the Wordwall application improves students' vocabulary mastery. This research used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was made up of students from class VIII MTs DDI Cambalagi, totalling five classes. The sample in this research was a class VIII D consisting of 28 students. The sample in this research was selected by cluster random sampling. The research instrument used was a vocabulary test of 35 questions. A vocabulary test was conducted before treatment (pretest) and after treatment (posttest), and the Wordwall application was used as a learning medium for three meetings. The results of the data analysis demonstrated that the mean score of the students’ pretest was 39.07, while the mean score of the students’ posttest improved to 77.46. Furthermore, the analysis paired sample t-test results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement, with the result of the sig. (2-tailed) value is .000 < 0.05. Based on the data analysis, the results found that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. This indicates that using the Wordwall application is effective and can be a viable option for improving students’ vocabulary mastery. Consequently, the Wordwall application can be integrated as an engaging and interactive learning tool to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at MTs DDI Cambalagi (Maros).

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the improvement in English learning outcomes of 11th-grade students at SMAN 5 Soppeng, using Microsoft Sway as an asynchronous medium. Involving 30 students for pre-test and post-test for quantitative data. The results showed a significant increase after treatment (Sig. = 0.000), indicating cognitive improvement in students' learning outcomes, also highlighting its potential as an effective asynchronous digital tool for fostering an effective and engaging English learning environment.
