Abstract

This study aims to analyze the principal’s strategy as a spiritual leader in selecting human resources with Islamic character and its implications for teacher performance at SMA Plus Al-Azhar Jember. The study is grounded in the importance of character-based human resources as a foundation for improving the quality, integrity, and performance of educational institutions. Its central argument is that teacher recruitment should not only emphasize professional competence, but also moral integrity, Islamic values, and suitability with the school’s vision and mission. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal, teachers, and students; observations of the selection process and teaching practices; and documentation studies of the school’s vision and mission, recruitment policies, and institutional programs. The data were analyzed through coding, categorization, theme identification, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings reveal four main strategies used by the principal as a spiritual leader in selecting human resources with Islamic character. These strategies include establishing Islamic moral indicators as selection criteria, assessing the alignment between candidates’ competencies and values with the school’s vision and mission, implementing an open and merit-based selection procedure, and prioritizing integrity and moral exemplarity in prospective teachers. Empirically, these strategies contribute to the emergence of teachers who are more motivated, disciplined, sincere, responsible, and trusted as role models within the school culture. This study is limited to one Islamic senior high school context, so the findings are not intended for broad generalization. However, the results provide practical insights for principals and Islamic educational institutions in developing character-based HR selection models.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a comprehensive depiction of human resource management (HRM) practices at MI Al-Ma’had An-Nur as aligned with values embedded in the Qur’an. Employing a qualitative descriptive research design, data were collected through observations, document analysis, and in-depth interviews with the head of the madrasah, a teacher, and a member of the internal quality assurance team, complemented by an analysis of relevant Qur’anic verses. The findings reveal that Qur’anic principles are operationalized in three core HRM dimensions: professional and merit-based recruitment, systematic monitoring and continuous capacity development, and the fulfillment of employee welfare. These practices have strengthened professional competence, integrity, and performance among teachers and educational staff, contributing to institutional effectiveness and rapid organizational growth. The study highlights the significance of integrating Islamic ethical values with modern HRM mechanisms as a viable framework for enhancing educational quality and organizational sustainability. However, the study is limited by its focus on a single institution and its reliance on qualitative data, which may constrain generalizability. Future research is recommended to involve multiple institutions and adopt comparative or mixed-methods approaches to further examine the broader applicability and impact of Qur’an-based HRM models in educational settings.

Abstract

The management of student delinquency in high schools often falls into a "gray zone" of authority, triggering latent conflicts between two key educational actors: Islamic Education (PAI) teachers and Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers. Although both professions share the ultimate goal of student character development, their paradigms—religious moral enforcement versus psychological intervention—frequently collide. This study employs a multi-site qualitative case study approach in three public high schools in Jember: SMAN Rambipuji, SMAN Balung, and SMAN Arjasa. The findings reveal that the absence of a comprehensive, written Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that integrates both perspectives results in ad-hoc conflict resolution. Although disputes are often settled peacefully through dialogue mediated by the principal, the lack of a binding regulation covering the shared interest of the student leads to recurring disputes. This article argues that without a synergistic regulatory framework that clearly delineates yet integrates the roles of PAI and BK, the best interests of the student are often sidelined in favor of bureaucratic territoriality. The study concludes that temporary personal peace agreements are insufficient to resolve structural role ambiguities across different school contexts

Abstract

This study departs from the problem that Total Quality Management in education is often interpreted technocratically through administrative indicators, accreditation, and service satisfaction, whereas Islamic education requires quality that includes the formation of faith, knowledge, adab, morality, independence, and social benefit. This study aims to analyze the implementation of educational quality management, the manifestation of holistic benefit values, and the reconstruction of the Total Quality Management paradigm in Islamic education at Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyah Mubtadiin, which runs SMP NU Toboali in South Bangka. This research employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis followed by conceptual abstraction. The findings show that educational quality is implemented through participatory planning, the integration of formal schooling and pesantren education, discipline-based quality culture, multidimensional evaluation, and continuous improvement. Holistic benefit is reflected in the impact on students, families, society, alumni, and the institution. The reconstructed model consists of seven components: tawhidic and adab-based value orientation, integrative leadership, participatory planning, integrated curriculum, pesantren-based habituation, multidimensional evaluation, and sustainable socio-spiritual impact.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of human resource competency development in the Islamic Religious Extension Section of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Special Region of Yogyakarta from the perspective of Islamic Education Management. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design based on internship activities, institutional observation, document review, and focused interviews with elements of the apparatus and Islamic religious instructors. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, thematic presentation, interpretation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the development of extension worker competencies has been directed at technical, managerial, socio-cultural, and digital competencies. However, pedagogical competencies as community educators have not been fully formulated explicitly in the planning, mentoring, and impact evaluation cycle. This article offers a P3E-D model consisting of needs mapping, competency strengthening, educational mentoring, impact evaluation, and knowledge digitization. This model strengthens the position of extension workers as human resources in community-based non-formal Islamic education.
