Abstract

Kosmetik yang beredar di pasaran harus dijamin keamanan dan kehalalannya oleh instansi terkait, untuk memberikan rasa aman kepada setiap konsumen. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang pentingnya penggunaan kosmetik yang aman dan halal kepada Masyarakat desa Kemanisan, Kota Serang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berupa edukasi masyarakat melalui penyuluhan dengan mengukur tingkat pengetahuan menggunakan kuesioner. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan responden sebelum penyuluhan adalah baik (42%), Cukup (46%), dan Kurang (12%). Tingkat pengetahuan responden setelah konseling baik (56%), Cukup (38%) dan Kurang (6%). Berdasarkan hasil pengabdian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan responden sebelum dan sesudah penyuluhan dilakukan terjadi peningkatan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat melalui metode penyuluhan mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan responden mengenai penggunaan kosmetik yang aman dan halal. Cosmetics circulating on the market must be guaranteed safety and halal by the relevant agencies, to provide a sense of security to every consumer. The aim of this service is to increase understanding of the importance of using safe and halal cosmetics among the people of Kemanisan village, Serang City. This community service activity takes the form of public education through counseling by measuring the level of knowledge using a questionnaire. The results of the service showed that the level of knowledge of respondents before counseling was good (42%), sufficient (46%), and poor (12%). The level of knowledge of respondents after counseling was good (56%), sufficient (38%) and poor (6%). Based on the results of this service, it can be concluded that the level of knowledge of respondents before and after the counseling was carried out increased. Community service activities through outreach methods are able to increase respondents' knowledge about the use of safe and halal cosmetics.

Abstract

Background: Doxorubicin (DOX), an efficacious chemotherapy drug is compromised by cardiotoxicity, myelosuppression, and hepatotoxicity. Due to the limited success of current treatments for DOX toxicity, there is a pressing need to explore alternative medical interventions, particularly from plant sources. This study was conducted to investigate the potential protective effect of ethanolic extract of Andrographis paniculata leaves (EEAP) against DOX-induced cardiac inflammation, liver toxicity, and anemia.Materials and methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were intraperitoneally injected with DOX at a total dose of 16 mg/kgBW. EEAP was administered orally for 4 weeks at doses of 125, 250, and 500 mg/kgBW/day according to the assigned treatment groups. The mRNA expression levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and nucleotide-binding domain, leucine-rich-containing family, pyrin domain-containing-3 (NLRP3) in the heart tissue, along with the concentrations of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NFκB) and calcium level were examined. Additionally, the hematological parameters (including hematocrit, hemoglobin and red blood cells (RBCs)), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in blood were also analyzed.Results: EEAP dose-dependently decreased the mRNA expressions of IL-1β (p<0.05), tended to decrease mRNA expression of NLRP3 and the concentrations of NFκB and calcium in heart tissue compared with the DOX-only group. Additionally, EEAP dose-dependently decreased ALP values (p<0.0001) and tended to improve hematological parameters, as well as AST and MDA levels in serum.Conclusion: This extract may prevent DOX-induced cardiac inflammation, anemia, and hepatotoxicity. However, further studies are needed to confirm these findings, including the efficacy profile of the extract in cancer rats treated with DOX.Keywords: doxorubicin, Andrographis paniculata, inflammation, anemia, hepatotoxicity, herbal medicine

Abstract

The study investigates the in silico toxicity of n-hexane extract from Acmella uliginosa (Jotang) herb, a plant widely used in traditional medicine. In silico methods, such as molecular docking, toxicity prediction, and ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity) analysis, were employed to assess the potential harmful effects of the extract’s chemical constituents. The primary aim was to evaluate the safety profile of the extract in terms of cytotoxicity, mutagenicity, and organ toxicity. The study used computational tools like Pre.ADMET to predict various toxicological endpoints based on the molecular properties of the compounds identified in the n-hexane extract. The results suggested that while some compounds exhibited low toxicity risk, others showed potential mutagenic or hepatotoxic effects. This in silico approach provides a rapid and cost-effective method for preliminary toxicity assessment, offering valuable insights for further in vivo or clinical studies. The findings underscore the importance of integrating computational techniques into the safety evaluation of herbal medicines.
