Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is one of the world's most serious health issues, including in Indonesia. Early detection and screening for cardiovascular disease are beneficial in reducing disease-related mortality and morbidity. Unfortunately, in Indonesia, the general public (particularly the elderly) rarely undergoes early screening for cardiovascular disease. Most elderly people complain of neck heaviness, which is one of the symptoms of high cholesterol levels in the blood. However, the majority of them are unaware of this because they rarely and reluctantly have their blood tested at a health facility. The goal of this activity is to detect cardiovascular disease early by checking cholesterol levels for free and educating people about the importance of protecting one's health from the various diseases that it can cause. Physical examination (height, weight), vital sign examination (blood pressure, pulse), cholesterol examination, and education are the three rare screening programs. This activity was completed voluntarily by 43 people. The majority of the participants were women between the ages of 41 and 60. According to the total cholesterol test, the majority of the participants had total cholesterol levels greater than 200 mg/dl. This means that these individuals are at an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Regular total cholesterol screening can help to prevent the development of cardiovascular disease and its complications, lowering cardiovascular disease mortality and morbidity in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anxiety among medical students is still relatively high, including in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE). This anxiety will have an impact on students' academic achievement. Relaxation techniques can be used to overcome anxiety incidents, and dhikr is a form of relaxation activity. Purposes: This research aimed to determine the decrease in student anxiety about the OSCE exam by dhikr istighfar. Methods: The method used in this research was quasi-experimental research with a pre-posttest and control group design. The research subjects were students of the Muhammadiyah University Palembang first-semester medical study program who would undergo the OSCE block exam and were willing to participate in this research through informed consent. Result: Research data analysis showed that comparison between pretest and posttest for each group also showed significant differences (P < 0.001). It means that dhikr istighfar is significantly effective in reducing students’ anxiety, especially during OSCCE. Conclusion: In conclusion, Dhikr Istighfar may be used as an anxiety management tool in medical education to overcome the anxiety level of students who will take exams, especially OSCE.

Abstract

Anxiety is a physiological and emotional response to perceived threats, often experienced by medical students before exams such as the LKK exam. High levels of anxiety can negatively affect academic performance and mental well-being. Islamic psychotherapy techniques, such as wudhu (ablution) and dhuha prayer, are believed to have calming effects that reduce stress and anxiety. This study aims to analyze the effect of wudhu therapy and dhuha prayer on anxiety levels among medical students at Muhammadiyah University of Palembang before the LKK exam. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest design without a control group. A total of 62 students meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected through simple random sampling. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test with a significance level of p 0.05. The study findings indicate a significant reduction in anxiety levels following the intervention, with a p-value of 0.05. Before the intervention, 87.1% of students exhibited moderate anxiety, while after the intervention, 91.9% of students reported mild anxiety. These results support the effectiveness of wudhu therapy and dhuha prayer as non-pharmacological interventions for reducing anxiety. The practice of wudhu and dhuha prayer significantly reduces anxiety levels in medical students before exams. These findings highlight the potential benefits of integrating Islamic psychotherapy into academic stress management strategies.
