Abstract

Hospitals are not only as a place of treatment, but also as a health service facility that can be a source of infection for other people. Doctors, nurses and other medical personnel are often exposed to potential hazards in hospitals, thus requiring protection in the form of personal protective equipment (PPE). However, compliance with the use of PPE is not always high, which makes doctors and nurses more vulnerable to risk of occupational diseases in hospitals. In one of conducted studies, the conditions that were less compliant in using PPE for health workers were 30%. One of the things that might affect this level of compliance is knowledge about PPE. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and compliance level to use personal protective equipment among doctors and nurses in operating room installation from a private hospital in 2020. Analytic observational by using cross sectional research design was used in this study. The population were all doctors and nurses at operating room installation of mentioned hospital above. Sampling was taken by total sampling method and 26 samples met the inclusion criteria. In this study, there were 23 respondents (88.5%) obeyed the use of personal protective equipment, meanwhile 3 respondents (11.5%) who did not. The 3 respondents were on loop or circular nurses. So, there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and compliance in the use of personal protective equipment with p-value = 0.027and OR=44. Keywords: personal protective equipment, knowledge level, compliance level

Abstract

Shift work is a method of allocating work time to different workgroups. Fatigue is defined as an abnormal sensation of tiredness, sluggishness, or a lack of desire to engage in activities, which results in stress, depression, or other negative emotions. In order to satisfy patients within 24 hours, hospitals must organize nurses by shift. The goal of this study at Muhammadiyah Palembang Hospital was to see if there was a link between shift work and fatigue in pediatric and internal ward nurses. This cross-sectional and analytic study entailed 26 respondents from the total sampling method used. In this study, those who worked shifts included those who worked in the morning (12 respondents (46.2 %), evening (8 respondents (30.8%), and night (6 respondents (23.1 %). Fatigue has been linked to 38% of RSMP's overworked pediatric ward nurses and interna, with a p-value of 0.029. The hospital should provide rest periods for nurses, especially those who work the last shift because they must adapt during the night.

Abstract

Background: Work location influences the proportion of operators with low back pain (LBP) at a South Sumatera onshore oil and gas company. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of nonspecific chronic LBP among the company's operators, as well as the association between quantitative and qualitative mental workload and nonspecific chronic LBP. Methods: This study was cross-sectional in design, with 96 samples collected through purposive sampling. Questionnaires and physical examinations were used to collect data. Results: Nonspecific chronic LBP was found in 32.3 percent of people. According to the multivariate analysis, moderate-heavy qualitative mental workload (OR: 5.14; 95 percent CI: 1.49-17.78), being overweight (OR 9.02 95 percent CI 2.46-33.08), being a moderate-heavy smoker (OR 4.28 95 percent CI 1.29-14.26), and sitting for more than 4 hours (OR 3.61 95 percent CI 1.13-11.52) were all associated with an increased risk of having nonspecific chronic LBP. Conclusion: Nonspecific chronic LBP is common among company operators. Individual factors associated with this finding include being overweight and smoking, while occupational factors include having a moderate-heavy qualitative mental workload and long static sitting for more than 4 hours.

High cholesterol levels in workers can cause other complications such as heart disease or even stroke which can reduce performance. The aim of this study was to assess changes in body weight, fasting blood sugar levels, and cholesterol before and after the wellness program. In this study, the sample used was workers at PT Pertamina Refinery Unit III Plaju who had taken part in a wellness program. The research period took place from January to July 2023. Sample collection used a total sampling technique with a retrospective cohort design. Body weight, fasting blood sugar and cholesterol levels were measured on workers before and after implementing the wellness program. After data collection was carried out, the bivariate data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with the SPSS program. This study found that there was a significant difference between body weight with a p-value of 0.000 and a p-value of 0.000 for cholesterol levels before and after the wellness program. There was no significant difference between fasting blood sugar levels before and after the wellness program with a p-value of 0.783. Wellness programs can reduce body weight and cholesterol levels in workers.

Abstract

Introduction: The Ogan Ilir Regency district has the second-highest prevalence of stunting in South Sumatra, with a prevalence rate of 24.9%. Providing additional meals (PMT) is an essential component, especially to improve the conditions of low-income communities affected by malnutrition, with a specific focus on young children. The purpose of the activity is to provide a continuous supply of food, thus preventing body weight loss and promoting optimal nutritional well-being. Methods: The event took place at a village in Payaraman District situated in Ogan Ilir Regency. The participant were the two children, namely Anak R (3.5 years old) and Anak S (1.7 years). The service methods included the process of meal preparation for PMT and the delivery of meals to the homes of children. The method used for the PMT involved the daily allocation of food, the nutrient composition of various foods, including pumpkin, potatoes, carrots, maize and similar substitutes. At the end of the month, the final anthropometric measurements were collected. The anthropometric measurements encompassed body weight, and height. The weight of the youngster was measured using a digital scale manufactured for further analysis. Results: There was a noticeable improvement in weight and height of Anak R and Anak S. Anak R demonstrated a weight gain after the programme from exactly 9.30 kg to 9.80 kg, while Anak S showed an increased weight from 7.80 kg to 8.50 kg. Anak R's height improved from 81.0 cm to 85.0 cm and Anak S's from 71.0 cm to 72.0 cm. Despite the observed growth in the weight and height of both children, the acquired findings did not meet the desired levels for each child's weight and height. Conclusion: Community service activities include food supplementary accompaniment and stunting surveillance has assisted for children with high risk of stunting conditions to gain weight and height after food additions. The accompaniment community service activity can be used as an effort to reduce cases of malnutrition.

Abstract

Introduction: Bank workers who provide services to customers are required to have an optimal performance. They are vulnerable to stress that can interfere with their performance. Stress causes an increase in sebaceous glands, resulting in seborrheic dermatitis and an increase in hormones. This can cause contraction of the uterine muscles which can lead to dysmenorrhea. This study aims to determine the relationship between occupational stress and dysmenorrhea and seborrheic dermatitis among female bank workers. Methods: This research followed an analytic observational cross-sectional design using primary data from female workers at SumSel Babel Bank A. Rivai Branch. The sample consisted of 75 female bank workers, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were selected using consecutive sampling. The independent variable in this study was occupational stress, while the dependent variables were dysmenorrhea and seborrheic dermatitis. Data were collected from primary data, the workplace stress scale questionnaire for occupational stress, the WaLIDD score for dysmenorrhea, and seborrheic dermatitis examination by a dermatologist. After obtaining the data, bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. Results: Sixty respondents (80%) had occupational stress, 47 respondents (62.7%) experienced dysmenorrhea, and 69 respondents (92%) did not experience seborrheic dermatitis. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a relationship between occupational stress and dysmenorrhea in female bank workers with a p-value 0.000 and no significant relationship between stress and the incidence of seborrheic dermatitis with p-value 0.202. Conclusion: Occupational stress can cause health problems including dysmenorrhea in female workers.
