Abstract

Abstract

Background: Dengue fever is a major public health problem, especially in heavily populated metropolitan areas like Palembang City, Indonesia. Gaining insight into the impact of climatic conditions on the dynamics of dengue transmission is essential for guiding specific public health actions. Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the correlation between temperature, rainfall, wind speed, air humidity, and the occurrence of dengue disease in Palembang City. Methods: Using observational data collected from 2016 to 2019 and 2022, we applied bivariate analytic approaches to evaluate the associations between meteorological factors and the incidence of dengue disease. Results: The findings demonstrate a notable inverse relationship between temperature and the occurrence of dengue disease, although rainfall displayed a favorable relationship. The relationships between wind speed, air humidity, air pressure, and dengue fever incidence were shown to be weaker. Conclusion: These findings highlight the significance of utilizing meteorological factors in early warning systems to enhance disease surveillance and control measures in metropolitan environments. This work helps to the creation of evidence-based strategies for reducing the burden of dengue fever in locations where it is common by explaining the intricate connections between climatic conditions and the dynamics of dengue transmission.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is one of the world's most serious health issues, including in Indonesia. Early detection and screening for cardiovascular disease are beneficial in reducing disease-related mortality and morbidity. Unfortunately, in Indonesia, the general public (particularly the elderly) rarely undergoes early screening for cardiovascular disease. Most elderly people complain of neck heaviness, which is one of the symptoms of high cholesterol levels in the blood. However, the majority of them are unaware of this because they rarely and reluctantly have their blood tested at a health facility. The goal of this activity is to detect cardiovascular disease early by checking cholesterol levels for free and educating people about the importance of protecting one's health from the various diseases that it can cause. Physical examination (height, weight), vital sign examination (blood pressure, pulse), cholesterol examination, and education are the three rare screening programs. This activity was completed voluntarily by 43 people. The majority of the participants were women between the ages of 41 and 60. According to the total cholesterol test, the majority of the participants had total cholesterol levels greater than 200 mg/dl. This means that these individuals are at an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Regular total cholesterol screening can help to prevent the development of cardiovascular disease and its complications, lowering cardiovascular disease mortality and morbidity in Indonesia.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is more common during the rainy season in Indonesia, and it is caused by dengue virus infection by the bite of Aedes sp. mosquitos. DHF vector control can be achieved through a variety of approaches, one of which is the physical method of employing ovitraps with the addition of readily available laundry wastewater attractants that contain mosquito-attracting chemicals. The purpose of this study to assess the efficacy of laundry wastewater attractants in ovitraps Aedes sp.. The research design adopted was quasi-experimental. Sampling was done by purposive sampling and based on Federer's formula, 6 houses in RT 46 Sukajaya Village, Sukarami Subdistrict were obtained as samples according to inclusion criteria, namely houses with large yards and many trees. This study used laundry wastewater as an attractant in ovitraps placed inside and outside residents' homes with concentrations of 10%, 30%, and 60% for three repetitions. Research data is analyzed using ANOVA and Chi-square tests. The study found that, the ovitrap with a 60% concentration of laundry wastewater attractant placed inside and outside the house produced the most Aedes sp. eggs.
