Abstract

This study discusses the relevance of the prohibition of usury in the hadith in the digital era, focusing on the application of sharia principles in modern financial technologies such as fintech, cryptocurrency, and online lending. The purpose of the study is to explore the concept of usury in the hadith and identify its implications for the contemporary digital financial system. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data collection was conducted through library research, using primary sources in the form of relevant hadith texts and secondary sources such as journal articles and books. The data were analyzed using a thematic approach to identify the relevance of the prohibition of usury in digital financial transactions. The results show that although digital financial technology offers wider financial inclusion, some financial products still have the potential to involve usury practices. The implications of this study include the need for stricter regulations, development of sharia-based fintech products, and improvement of public financial literacy. Thus, the prohibition of usury in the hadith remains relevant as a guide in facing the challenges of modern financial technology in order to achieve economic justice in accordance with sharia principles.

Abstract

This study critically examines Qur'anic principles of wealth distribution as a potential solution to global economic inequality. Employing a qualitative, thematic tafsir-based analysis of selected Qur'anic verses, the research reveals that Islamic instruments such as zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf (ZISWAF) offer a comprehensive and morally grounded framework for addressing structural poverty and socio-economic disparities. Rooted in the maqāṣid sharī‘ah paradigm, these mechanisms aim to ensure social justice by mandating ethical wealth circulation, protecting essential human rights, and countering the concentration of resources among economic elites. Despite their transformative potential, the implementation of these instruments in modern contexts faces challenges, including limited institutional transparency, fragmented regulation, and low public participation. This study contributes to global academic discourse by demonstrating how Qur'anic economic ethics can inform inclusive fiscal policies and sustainable development models. It recommends policy reforms integrating digital financial technologies, standardized zakat-wakaf governance, and stronger state–Islamic institution collaboration. Future research is encouraged to expand empirical evaluations of Islamic wealth redistribution mechanisms in diverse socio-economic contexts and to compare their effectiveness against conventional capitalist systems.

Abstract

Introduction: The application of Sharia economics often focuses on aspects of formal legality, ignoring the social and desire dimensions. This challenge makes the Sharia principles less optimal for creating benefits. Globalisation adds pressure to innovation, but Maqasid Sharia offers a holistic framework for material and spiritual balance. Methods: Using the literature study method, this study examines the theory and application of Maqasid Sharia which includes the protection of religion, soul, intellect, heredity, and property in economic policy Results: The results show that, although Maqasid Syariah provides a comprehensive framework, the main challenges in its implementation are an overly legalistic approach and a lack of innovation in Islamic financial products. Conclusion and suggestion: Maqasid Syariah as the foundation of syariah economy provides strategic guidance for fair, inclusive, and sustainable policies with Five main elements: religion, soul, intellect, heredity, and wealth. Despite being able to address global challenges such as social inequality and climate change, its implementation faces obstacles such as the dominance of a legalistic approach, lack of innovation, and lack of regulation and infrastructure. Recommendations include the integration of Maqasid values in policy, strengthening regulation, developing Sharia financial technology, redistribution of wealth through zakat and waqf, and innovative products such as green sukuk. The synergy between government, private, and historians is necessary for effective implementation.

Abstract

Introduction: This study addresses the growing concern over the marginalization of maqasid al-shariah the ethical and social objectives of Islamic law in Indonesia’s Islamic financial institutions (IFIs). Despite notable growth in assets and institutional presence, many IFIs remain fixated on profit-maximization, often replicating conventional banking models and neglecting the core values of Islamic economics such as justice, welfare, and human dignity. Methods: This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach using a normative-philosophical method. Data were collected through document and content analysis of Islamic financial regulations, fatwas, academic publications, and policy papers. The study also applies triangulation to enhance data validity and reliability.. Results: Findings indicate that profit orientation dominates Islamic banking operations in Indonesia, with little institutional incentive to implement maqasid-aligned policies. Regulatory indicators such as ROA and CAR fail to reflect social objectives, and maqasid literacy among practitioners remains low. These gaps have contributed to reduced social impact, especially among lower-income groups who are central to maqasid values. Conclusion and suggestion: The study recommends the integration of a Maqasid Shariah Index (MSI) into regulatory evaluation tools, development of socially-oriented products such as qard hasan and productive waqf, and mandatory maqasid education for IFI leadership. These steps aim to create a more balanced, ethical, and socially inclusive Islamic financial ecosystem in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study analyzes the open unemployment rate (OUR) in Indonesia as of August 2024 by using official data published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The national OUR stood at 4.91%, with approximately 7.48 million unemployed individuals from a workforce of 152.11 million people. Regional disparities remain apparent, especially in West Java with a higher OUR of 6.75%. Factors influencing unemployment include education quality, regional minimum wages, inflation, and unequal investment distribution. From a sharia economic perspective, unemployment is not only an economic issue but also a matter of social justice and moral responsibility. Islam emphasizes work as a form of worship and the foundation of community welfare. Therefore, this study highlights the relevance of integrated and inclusive employment policies—emphasizing skills development, just wage systems, and equitable access to employment opportunities—while promoting the potential of Islamic social finance instruments such as productive zakat, cash waqf, and qardhul hasan. The findings are expected to serve as a valuable reference for policymakers to design sustainable, fair, and faith-aligned strategies for reducing unemployment and improving labor quality in Indonesia.
