Abstract

The development of 5G communication technology requires antenna devices that have good performance, small size, and are able to operate at high frequencies. One alternative is a microstrip array antenna because it has advantages in size, ease of manufacture, and the ability to increase gain. This study discusses the design process and performance testing of a microstrip array antenna that functions at a frequency of 5GHz for use in 5G communication systems. The design and testing process were carried out using CST Studio Suite software. The simulation results show that the designed antenna is able to operate at a frequency of 5GHz with a return loss value of less than -10 dB, where the results obtained based on the simulation are -24.42dB. VSWR below 2, where the results obtained based on the simulation are 1.12, and desired bandwidth is wide, which is produced in this design is 380MHz. Thus, the designed two element microstrip array antenna has been successfully designed with the standard parameters specified for use in a 5G network communication system.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT) based rest-time and medication reminder system in hospitals using Set-Top Box (STB). In the context of patient care, proper management of rest time and medication consumption reminders are essential to support the healing process and the patient's health. The system is designed to utilize the STB as a media display of information that patients can access in the inpatient room. The system consists of a reminder module integrated with a mobile application for medical personnel and families, which can set rest schedules and medication reminders according to the patient's needs. Reminders will be displayed visually and auditorially through the STB, ensuring patients don't miss this important time. The research was carried out by simulating conditions in hospitals involving a number of patients. The results of the evaluation showed that this system succeeded in increasing patient adherence in following the treatment schedule by up to 40% and provided positive feedback on the comfort of the treatment process. The design of an IoT-based reminder system using STBs can improve the efficiency of patient care in hospitals. Recommendations for further development include integration with hospital management systems for more comprehensive monitoring.

Abstract

This research examines the design of a Fiber to the Building (FTTB) network based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology using OptiSystem and Google Earth Pro. The network design and simulation were conducted for the Civil Engineering Department Building and the Telecommunication Laboratory Building at Politeknik Negeri Medan. Network performance was evaluated based on received optical power, attenuation, Bit Error Rate (BER), and Q-Factor. The simulation results show that the received optical power ranged from −19 dBm to −21 dBm. The total attenuation from the OLT to ONT1 through ODP1 was 22.601 dB, while the attenuation from the OLT to ONT2 through ODP2 was 21.588 dB. Both values were below the maximum optical loss budget of 28 dB used for GPON Class B+ evaluation. The obtained BER values ranged from 10⁻³⁷ to 10⁻²⁶, which were significantly lower than the feasibility criterion of 10⁻⁹. The Q-Factor values were also higher than the minimum criterion of 6. Based on the analysis, the designed FTTB network provides good signal quality and meets the technical feasibility criteria used in this study.
