Abstract

Background: Indonesia's aging population is expanding rapidly, leading to a rise in elderly individuals confronting serious health challenges. The primary mental health issue in this group is excessive stress, which is often associated with emotional disorders, social isolation, and a reduced quality of life. To address this, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia has established mental health screening policies to improve healthcare quality for the elderly. Nonetheless, further exploration of the prevalence and characteristics of mental health issues in this population is essential to inform effective interventions. Objectives: This study aims to offer an overview of mental health among the elderly within the Sempaja Healthcare Center's service area. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ) for data collection. Consecutive sampling was applied, resulting in a sample size of 99 elderly participants. The SRQ identified symptoms of mental health disorders, and the data were analyzed to assess the prevalence and characteristics of these mental health concerns. Results: Among the 99 participants, 40 elderly participants were identified as having mental health issues. Most elderly individuals with mental health disorders experienced emotional disorders (42.5%), with the majority in the 60–74 age group (90%), female (55%), having completed primary education (45%), unemployed (72.5%), and married (70%). These findings indicate that certain demographic groups are more vulnerable to mental health challenges. Conclusions: This study emphasizes the importance of the need for targeted mental health screenings and interventions for the elderly, especially among high-risk groups. Strengthening mental health services and promoting educational programs that address stress management and social support may significantly improve the well-being and quality of life of elderly individuals through mental health screening and addressing mental health issues among the elderly population.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pendahuluan: Estetika gigi dan senyum memainkan peranan penting dalam membentuk persepsi seseorang terhadap penampilan dirinya maupun orang lain. Penelitian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi estetika gigi dan senyum pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran, karena faktor seperti usia, jenis kelamin dan tingkat pendidikan dapat mempengaruhi penilaian estetika seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi estetika gigi dan senyum pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan desain penelitian cross-sectional. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner yang memuat 15 pertanyaan dengan menggunakan skala Guttman dengan alternatif pertanyaan YA atau TIDAK. Pengambilan data dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2022. Responden penelitian mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran yang berjumlah 201 mahasiswa dan menggunakan teknik stratified random sampling. Jawaban yang dipilih responden dianalisis menggunakan metode descriptive statistics. Hasil: Responden dengan usia 22 tahun memiliki persepsi positif dengan persentase tertinggi yaitu 75.0%, persentase terendah yaitu pada responden dengan usia 17 tahun hanya 40.0%. Responden laki-laki lebih memiliki persepsi diri yang positif yaitu 70.7% dan responden perempuan hanya 47.6%. Mahasiswa berdasarkan tingkat akademik, responden tingkat 4: angkatan 2019 memiliki persepsi diri positif yaitu 71.4% dan pada responden tingkat 1: angkatan 2022 sebanyak 38.8% dan Program Studi Kedokteran Gigi memiliki persentase tertinggi berdasarkan latar belakang pendidikan responden, yaitu sebanyak 59.4%. Simpulan: Persepsi positif paling banyak adalah pada responden yang dengan usia 22 tahun. Responden laki-laki memiliki persepsi yang lebih positif. Berdasarkan tingkat akademik, persepsi positif paling banyak adalah pada responden dengan tingkat akademik yang lebih tinggi, dan berdasarkan latar belakang pendidikan, persepsi positif paling banyak adalah pada responden Program Studi Kedokteran Gigi.KATA KUNCI: Persepsi diri, estetika gigi, estetika senyum, senyum, pendidikan The Self-Perception of Dental Aesthetics and Smile in Students the Faculty of Medicine: Studi cross-sectionalABSTRACTIntroduction: Dental aesthetics and smiles play an important role in shaping a person's perception of their own appearance and that of others. This study was conducted to determine the perception of dental aesthetics and smiles among medical students, as factors such as age, gender, and educational level can influence a person's aesthetic judgment. Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The study utilized a questionnaire comprising 15 questions using the Gutmann scale, with response options of YES or NO. Data collection was conducted in November 2022. The study respondents were 201 medical students, selected using stratified random sampling. The responses selected by the respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Respondents aged 22 years had the highest positive perception at 75.0%, while the lowest percentage was among respondents aged 17 years at 40.0%. Male respondents had a more positive self-perception at 70.7%, while female respondents had 47.6%. Based on academic level, respondents in their fourth year (class of 2019) had a positive perception of 71.4%, while respondents in their first year (class of 2022) had a positive perception of 38.8%. Students from the Dentistry Program had the highest percentage based on educational background, at 59.4%. Conclusion: The highest positive perception was among respondents aged 22 years. Male respondents had a more positive perception. Based on academic level, the highest positive perception was among respondents with a higher academic level, and based on educational background, the highest positive perception was among respondents from the Dental Medicine Program.KEY WORDS: Self-Perception, dental aesthetics, smile aesthetics, smile, academic

Abstract

Stunting merupakan masalah gizi kronis yang memerlukan intervensi pada periode 1000 Hari Pertama Kehidupan (HPK) sebagai golden age tumbuh kembang anak. Indonesia menempati urutan kelima dunia dengan prevalensi stunting 37% atau hampir 9 juta balita. Program intervensi 1000 HPK dilaksanakan di Desa Senoni, Kecamatan Sebulu, Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara pada 24 Mei 2025 sebagai upaya pencegahan stunting berbasis masyarakat. Kegiatan ini merupakan kolaborasi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Mulawarman dengan masyarakat setempat menggunakan pendekatan edukatif dan partisipatif untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan program. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi sesi edukasi oleh dr. Setya Wardana, Sp.OG dengan materi "Risiko Stunting Periode Kehamilan" dan dr. Magdalena Rusady Goey, MRes, Sp.A dengan materi "Deteksi Gangguan Tumbuh Kembang Anak", talkshow interaktif, pelayanan kesehatan komprehensif, dan evaluasi program. Hasil menunjukkan partisipasi masyarakat tinggi dengan kehadiran mencapai target 50 orang. Sesi edukasi berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman tentang pentingnya asupan gizi adekuat selama kehamilan dan deteksi dini gangguan tumbuh kembang, dibuktikan melalui wawancara 12 peserta yang menyatakan paham dan puas dengan jawaban yang diberikan. Tingginya antusiasme terlihat dari banyaknya peserta yang hadir dan mengajukan pertanyaan pada sesi talkshow interaktif. Pelayanan kesehatan komprehensif memberikan manfaat langsung melalui pemeriksaan antropometri, konsultasi medis, dan pelayanan caregiver. Pelaksanaan kegiatan mencapai dua tujuan utama: pencegahan stunting tingkat desa melalui edukasi 1000 HPK dan menciptakan model replikatif untuk wilayah lain. Program ini relevan karena merupakan inisiatif perdana pencegahan stunting yang menargetkan periode 1000 HPK di wilayah tersebut.

Abstract

Background: Learning style represents one of the key elements that shape how effectively personals acquire knowledge and skills. A clear understanding of these styles plays a critical role in enhancing a learner’s ability to comprehend, process, and retain information, thereby supporting the optimisation of instructional strategies. By recognising the diversity of learning preferences, educators can design and implement teaching approaches that are more responsive to learners’ unique needs, ultimately leading to improved educational outcomes.Objecties: This study examined the connection among learning styles and academic performance among dental students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Mulawarman University. Method: This study employed a quantitative approach by a cross-sectional research design. A total of 106 dentistry students by the Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University, participated as participants. Data collection was carried out utilizing the ARK (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic) Learning Styles Questionnaire. The data obtained were subsequently processed and analyzed through univariate analysis utilizing frequency distribution and bivariate analysis utilizing the Kruskal–Wallis test. Results: The outcomes drew that the predominance of participants demonstrated a kinesthetic learning style (64.4%) and achieved good academic performance (97%). The bivariate analysis examining the connection among learning style and learning outcomes indicated a p-value of 0.805 (p > 0.05), recommending no statistically substantial association among the two variables. Conclusion: It can be outlined that there is no statistically substantial connection among learning style and academic performance among dentistry students at the Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University.
