Abstract

The background of the researcher taking this research topic is because he is interested in studying international conflicts that have occurred and as an additional reference in the world of literature. The purpose of this study is to reveal the forms of political hegemony and power that exist in Ahmad Syauqi's poetry, namely Al Inqilabi Al-Uthmani wa Suquuthi Sulthan Abdul Hamid based on Antonio Gramsci's perspective of hegemony theory and to find the counter-hegemony that existed during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid. II. The type of research method used is a qualitative and descriptive research method using a sociological approach. The primary data source used in this research is a poem from a collection of diwans entitled "syauqiyyat", and in it, there are 151 poetry titles. His poem is entitled "Al-Inqilabi Al-Uthmani wa Suquuthi Sulthan Abdul Hamid" by Ahmad Syauqi, while the secondary data sources used are references relevant to the research topic. Data collection techniques used include reading, translation, and note-taking techniques, while the data analysis theory used is the content method. The results obtained describe that (1) There are forms of political hegemony and power over political society and civil society. The following details are found in the political community. There are strategies to attack opponents, threats to subordinates made by superiors, arrangements for maintaining power, and surrender to the authorities. Abstract

This research aims to uncover the existential choices of Imam Asy-Syafi’i in his poems in the book "Diwan Al-Imam Asy-Syafi’i," as well as to find the similarities and differences in self-existence thinking between him and Søren Kierkegaard. The main object of the research is the poems of Imam Asy-Syafi’i from the book "Diwan Al-Imam Asy-Syafi’i" published by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyah in 2020. This research uses a qualitative approach. This research is based on Søren Kierkegaard's existentialism theory, which emphasizes personal choice, subjectivity, freedom, responsibility, and the religious dimension. Data was collected using the read-and-note technique, followed by data reduction analysis, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the poems of Imam Asy-Syafi’i reflect existential choices such as patience, independence, and forgiveness, which align with Kierkegaard's concept of self-existence through subjective, free, and responsible choices, including the religious stage. The fundamental similarity lies in the emphasis on subjective choices and the background of religious thought, while the differences arise from the religious traditions (Islam vs. Christianity) and the roles of the figures (scholar vs. philosopher)

Abstract

This study investigates the associative meanings found in Nawal El-Sa'dawi's novel Mautu Maʿālī al-Wazīr with the aim of enriching semantic studies, particularly those related to associative meaning in Arabic literary texts. The research seeks to identify and classify the associative meanings embedded in words and phrases throughout the novel based on Geoffrey Leech's theory of meaning. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using library research. The primary source of data was the novel Mautu Maʿālī al-Wazīr, published in 2005, consisting of 72 pages. Data were collected through intensive reading and note-taking techniques, while data analysis followed three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a total of 43 instances of associative meaning distributed across five categories proposed by Leech. These include stylistic meaning (4 data), affective meaning (11 data), collocative meaning (12 data), connotative meaning (15 data), and reflective meaning (1 datum). Among these categories, connotative meaning appears most frequently, indicating the author's extensive use of figurative and context-dependent expressions to convey deeper social and emotional messages. The results demonstrate that associative meaning plays a significant role in shaping the literary style and semantic richness of the novel, highlighting the importance of semantic analysis in understanding Arabic literary discourse.

Abstract

Media reporting on the Israel–Palestine ceasefire negotiations often reflects ideological and geopolitical orientations that shape how the conflict is understood by the public. This study investigates how four major Arab-language news outlets—Al Jazeera, Okaz, Sky News Arabia, and BBC News Arabic—construct their framing of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. Specifically, the research addresses two questions: (1) how each outlet employs Robert N. Entman’s four framing elements, and (2) what similarities and differences emerge from the comparative framing across these media. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study analyzes four online articles published during the negotiation stalemate in early 2025. Data were collected through documentation and examined using Entman’s framing devices: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. The findings reveal contrasting patterns: Al Jazeera and BBC News Arabic frame Israel as obstructing the ceasefire and emphasize humanitarian impacts; Okaz portrays Hamas as the primary barrier and legitimizes Israel’s security-oriented stance; and Sky News Arabia adopts a more balanced yet moderately pro-Palestinian framing. These variations demonstrate how geopolitical context influences media narratives. The study contributes to conflict communication research by illustrating divergent Arab media framings and underscores the need for critical media literacy in interpreting politically charged news.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of exile and the loss of “the right to have rights” in Mourid Barghouti’s I Saw Ramallah through Hannah Arendt’s political thought. It argues that exile in the memoir is not merely a condition of geographical displacement but a structural form of political exclusion that deprives Palestinian subjects of homeland, legal recognition, mobility, sovereignty, and social belonging. Using a qualitative method with an interpretive-critical approach, this study analyzes selected narrative fragments, spatial symbols, and textual descriptions related to displacement, statelessness, alienation, restricted movement, and collective trauma. The findings show that Barghouti represents exile as a multidimensional violation of human rights. The Palestinian subject is not only alienated from territory but also separated from the political community that should guarantee fundamental rights. The transformation of homeland into occupied space, the ambiguity of citizenship, the status of the “outcast,” and the denial of return reveal a condition of rightlessness. Through Arendt’s framework, the memoir demonstrates that human rights cannot function effectively without political membership and legal recognition. This study concludes that I Saw Ramallah offers a literary critique of political structures that deny Palestinians the fundamental conditions for possessing and claiming rights.
Critical Discourse Analysis of Media Power in Reporting the 19% US Tariff on Indonesian Exports: A Comparative Study of Indonesian and Middle East News Outlets: Analisis Diskursus Kritis tentang Kekuatan Media dalam Pelaporan Tarif 19% AS atas Ekspor Indonesia: Studi Perbandingan antara Media Indonesia dan Timur Tengah Hilmy Aqila Sukmono; Abdul Basid

Abstract

Background: Media discourse on international trade is not neutral; it reflects ideological positions through language. Purpose: This study aims to analyze how Indonesian and Middle East media linguistically frame the 19% US tariff on Indonesian exports using Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Method: The research applied a qualitative descriptive design with Van Dijk’s CDA framework. Six online news articles published in July 2025 were purposively selected from major Indonesian (Tempo, Metro TV, The Jakarta Post) and Middle Eastern outlets (Al Jazeera, Sky News Arabia, Al Arabiya) based on relevance to the 19% tariff issue and narrative completeness. Articles were analyzed through Van Dijk’s macro–super–micro structure. Coded independently by two researchers using a shared coding guide before reconciling discrepancies through consensus, ensuring analytic reliability. Cross-checking linguistic patterns, thematic structures, and translations of Arabic texts further strengthened the credibility of the findings. Results and Discussion: The findings show that the six outlets cannot be classified by region, as their ideological orientations diverge within and across Indonesia and the Middle East. Indonesian media emphasize domestic stakes—technocratic caution, economic vulnerability, or sovereignty-driven critique—while Middle Eastern outlets embed the tariff within global power dynamics, ranging from anti-hegemonic (Al Jazeera) to pro-U.S. (Al Arabiya) or semi-neutral (Sky News Arabia). Across macro, super, and micro levels, ideological positioning arises from institutional agendas rather than geography. Shared strategies—evaluative lexis, power metaphors, and selective sourcing—function as socio-cognitive cues. That shape mental models of hierarchy and inequality, ultimately legitimizing specific interpretations of U.S.–Indonesia trade relations. Conclusions and Implications: The study shows that ideological framing of the tariff stems from outlet-specific discursive choices rather than regional identity. Language thus helps reproduce global power asymmetries. Future research should expand datasets and integrate socio-cognitive approaches to deepen analysis.
